I had never seen this movie when Second Sight announced this edition. I watched it on HBO Max to see what the fuss was about and was blown away. I kept hyping it up to my better half and when my copy showed up we watched it together. She loved it to the point of thinking about it for days after and bringing up things she’d realized later on. What a wonderful film and a beautiful release. As someone with no nostalgia for the OG art I prefer the Second Sight art. Peak 80’s cinema.
Definitely release of the year for me. Second Sight is my fave boutique label and can't wait to get Blair Witch. Great review guys. Looking forward to your next live 😁
I felt a bit guilty buying this release since I have so much on preorder. Now I am glad to say I am now guilt free thanks to this video, lol. Great video guys and congrats on 10,000 subs.
Something about The Hitcher's score just works its way into my brain. I was soaking up as much of the film and special features as I could just to keep hearing it! Picking up Point Break on 4k now too. give me all the Isham you got!! Did you guys watch the China Lake short film too? Harmon was extremely fortunate to have The Hitcher script offered to him, it was a perfect fit!! As usual the wait was worth it and Second Sight's reputation grows even stronger.
I didn't see China Lake, but it sounds like the short film version of the Hitcher. Pretty awesome they included it in the release so I can check it out!
I got the limited edition as a blind buy based on good things i’ve heard over the years (including you guys). Loved it. Always assumed it was a b-movie and it has those roots, but thought it was really well made. That police station scene when he wakes up is tense as f**k
Such a great release by Second Sight in every way (restoration quality, physical extras, etc). Completely agreed in regard to the stellar writing....Rather than going for cheap, soap opera-esque additional elements, the seemingly simplistic back-story on characters like the cafe chick (played by Mike Damone's former victim) gives the film a sense of realism which helps keep it grounded.
I watched this as a kid really late on Cinemax i think and it stayed with me FOREVER. The Hitcher is an 11 outta 10 for me and on 4K its aged like wine man. Best $60 I've ever spent and its definitely my favorite 4K release of the year.
The brilliant original 80s classic Hitcher is a psychological horror masterpiece in my opinion. It has truly incredible atmosphere with a stand-out performance by the great actor Rutger Hauer that much like The Thing and Blade Runner made it's mark over time through home VHS media :-)
I got the standard edition having not seen it. I felt the movie was MUCH better than the remake. It has stronger actors than the remake but i do have a soft spot for Sean Bean. I actually felt this movie couldve came out in the 70s. It has a very raw and unapologetic way in how it treats its violence and action scenes. I got alot of John Carpenter and Terminator vibes from this movie and feel Rutger Haurer could be a great terminator. That scene with him in shadow when hes behind the wheel of the 18 wheeler as hes about to pull the girl in half reminded me of the scene with Arnold where he told the guy to get out. And the minimalist score was very John Carpenter. The only dated aspect i can see is how normal hitchhiking used to be compared to today. But i dont really care lol.
You trash your J-cards? Trash your channel right now! Joking aside, this is how a J-card should be. Something that holds the box/steelbook instead of being an annoying, loose piece of cardboard. As with a few other folks here, this was a blind buy for me too and I was not disappointed. The film wonderfully blends a wide array of genre's but I will say the psychological horror moments were to me the most effective.
Looks like most people blind bought this because it comes in a shiny box and it’s from second sight and people feel the need to buy something out of FOMO.
I think blind buying gets a bad rap. I like watching 4k and I like watching movies I’ve never seen. Blind buying 4ks is two great things at once. I had seen this movie but it’s been so long it was LIKE I was blind buying. The format is mostly releasing all time bangers and this is no exception
Honestly, it's awesome for that to happen to this title as it mirrors its initial release of being widely discovered on VHS. I hear you, but the more eyes on movies like this the better.
I never saw this, unless Russ is gonna vouch for it I probably will never. Just commenting to keep the algorithm, pumping boys, have a great afternoon!!

11:25 Second Sight Collector's Edition Unboxing, Features, & Transfer
I picked up the 4k which looks good, but I don't like the movie. That a family on vacation would pick up a hitchhiker.
Amazon sale got me bad this year: Remakes house haunted hill and 13 ghosts, dracula 2000, Abigal, blob 4k and Pumpkinhead.
Wasn't big in theaters upon release but was huge on VHS. It became the must rent via word of mouth.
For sure. Did you pick up the 4K?
@@4K_Kings nope, but I need to! Thanks for the review
Watched the 4K at a mates the other day, my first time. Wow what an 80's classic. Absolutely loved it and glad we each own this Second Sight gem.
Another fine review boys
Thank you!

Love this film.
Would love to see more reviews on recent releases from you guys!
We've got Nightmare on Elm Street 4K coming up, and Terminator 4K after that!
So happy with this release. I need more Second Sight in my life.
Definitely release of the year for me. Second Sight is my fave boutique label and can't wait to get Blair Witch.

Great review guys Russ never disappoints with the dope shirts
I did a blind buy on this one and no regrets here. Solid release in every way possible.

Same here, got the limited edition as a blind buy. It’s really excellent. The score is something else too.

Brilliant flick and a terrific release by SS.
It’s my favourite 4K release of 2024.
I just got the regular release. Still pretty great
thanks guys, keep up the good work!

I'm happy I got this edition and I got Repo Men thanks to your review and I love the film.

What's wrong with blind buying?
@@4K_Kingsexactly, I haven't seen one person regret blind buying this release.
I never saw this, unless Russ is gonna vouch for it I probably will never. Just commenting to keep the algorithm, pumping boys, have a great afternoon!!
I 100% vouch... and this is without nostalgia. I saw it for the first time this year, and every comment is accurate also!
And thank you, as always, Jordan... Hope school is going well for you.
@@russceasetheruss5360 thank you very much. Appreciate that
