Interesting fact the old Davison’s/Macy’s on Peachtree St. (180 Peachtree) was built on the same model as the NYC store! Same architecture, windows etc. Atlanta, GA.
Macy's survive because of its valuable real estate, and now it's doing well because people who have nowhere else to shop if they are looking for better quality stuffs and better shopping atmosphere than the discounters. It also has strong online presence, and the loyalty program incentive is clear. Backstage will attract people who look for discounts, but they may spend more when they see nicer stuffs in the department store aisles.
The pandemic finished off their competition.
But they had enough cash to survive.
Department store sales are down , but they have a much larger percentage of it.
Not shopping in Macy's anymore. I receive booklet with sales that are not really. 2 times went to the store to get a on sale item that was not really. Not sure if the employee in the store even knew or was just making up an excuse. Poor customer service!!! I can go online to other store, find anything, in different colors, size, options etc ..in two days in my door and easy to return if I like...
My Local Macy's Is Located At Central Avenue And The Interstate 10 In Montclair, California, And It Is My Son's Favorite Stores
The store just got too expensive. I used to shop there but it just kept going up and up and I was just not in my budget. I think some of these retailers need to stop and think if you people can’t afford it then they’re not going to stay in business. I went there with my daughter last weekend and we bought nothing. She normally spends quite a bit on her clothes but when a simple woman’s button white shirt is $144 she even said no.

I see Macy’s stock going through the roof with this new deal with Toys R us. This is a true winner. Macy’s stock M will sky rocket to the $120 a share in a vary short time. Ticker M is a solid investment now. Call your investments brokers now. And get in “M” while the price low. Before Wall Street starts a stampede that takes over the stock and you miss your chance to make some big money!
Oh yeah these 2 bankrupt stores will go to the moon especially with Amazon opening up retail stores. Cant go tits up 😂

Macy's is like that one dude in class who should not be passing but keeps on getting just the right marks to move on to the next course.
One thing that helped them survive was consolidating the men's and women's stores (across the street from each other) in San Francisco, and selling off the men's store for $250 million. They also did sale - leaseback in a bunch of other locations, raising cash by selling their real estate. Another thing was raising $450 Billion in financing in June 2020.
Honestly I am shocked Macy’s is doing extremely well because the locations at Governors Square in Tallahassee Florida and Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody, Georgia are by the most rundown locations I have ever been to, so not all Macy’s are beautiful stores, if anything Macy’s destroyed Rich’s and Burdine’s by greed actually, so honestly it’s really intriguing to think that Macy’s didn’t end up like JCPenney’s as of recently. 🤔
Most of those old, converted Macy's are rundown and dumpy. Both locations you mentioned opened in the 70s. Governor's Square opened as either a Maas Brothers or Burdine's around 1978, and Perimeter Mall opened as a Rich's in 1971. Usually, only the stores that Macy's built themselves (preferably no older than 2000) are the only truly nice stores. The Macy's at Mall at Millenia in Orlando, The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel, and The Mall at University Town Center in Sarasota, Florida are all very nice stores.
@@TheNewgreatlife Yes that is very true what you said I agree, but actually that’s not the only Macy’s stores they built new during the 2000’s era when Rich’s merged with Macy’s the Atlanta area stores such as: Mall of Georgia, Mall at Stonecrest, and Arbor Place Mall as well, and the last true nicest Rich’s ever built was North Point Mall, the Town Center at Cobb original Macy’s was badly rundown due to lack of maintenance and care during the 2000’s era, so remember Macy’s was already failing then it’s just accelerated since then, and I understand the ones in Florida also were built by Macy’s but some of those newer ones were also Burdine’s because Federated owned all of those and made them the same with slight modifications, if you don’t believe me ask any Elevator enthusiast on here or ask any Nostalgist of Retail in general, or you can watch any RUclips channel’s talking about the decline of Macy’s or anything related to them, so with that being said you are not 100% correct or wrong either! 😁

Confused at the part that says Macy's rivals like JCPenney and Neiman Marcus bit the dust.......Um.......they are both very much alive. They just filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and emerged from it later.
I made my order onion on Macy’s website it was Delivered from Amazon they forgot to remove Amazon receipt from the box!!!!!

Ususal measures in critical situations, down sizing the company and cutting costs is always a good solution. But the real test is on the long run to keep the upper trend, only time will tell if these strategies are the righteous ones or not

People who made big money back in the old days always have descendents that are alive today and are living regular lives.I think it's kind of ironic.

The whole retail space is going through a great adjustment. Consumers are changing. A new generation of consumers have also changed. The competition is vast specially with the likes of Amazon and companies going into their own e-commerce bypassing the likes of Macy's as major buyers. It's all crumbling

Macy's : focus on rich customers and gives the finger to low wages and low income citizens.
Meanwhile, some food chains change to unisex bathrooms and&or open bathrooms for non-customers, just to send a message........the message is "don't invest your money here!"
