I've been enjoying learning to play Good Time Charlie's Got The Blues. You are great, but I think you forgot to explain one little part. I'm finally getting the way to use the second and third strings to compliment the picking. I will have it all down pretty soon. But when you go to D7 to explain how to do the slide, you forget that the part just before the slide which uses D7 was never explained. Am I wrong? Did it just skip your mind? If I get everything else down, I think I can get real close and figure that part out too. I laugh when I say this, but when I'm learning from you I get so close and watch so carefully that I think I could tell you what after shave you were using that day. Thanks, Jim Campbell.
Hi James, hey I am so glad you are learning from this tutorial. You know, I may have missed explaining that slide. I will take a look and see if i can give you a little bit of an explanation on here this week if I can get some time. Thanks again James! I appreciate you. Merry Christmas. - Gaylerd
Oh my gosh, you know what Jim.... You are exactly right. I just missed it. Not sure what I did to leave that out, but i dang sure did. I am sorry. I'll see if I can get that part added. Not sure, but I'll try. - thank you sir! Gaylerd
first heard this song 35 years ago, thanks for teaching me how to play it. i've started to think i can do more adventurous stuff now. thank you very much.
Hey, thanks for the great lesson. I'm workin' on the first riff and almost up to speed. For months I've been watching Fretkiller do a fabulous job of this song wondering how he does it. Thanks to you, now I know. A cool thing he does is slide from the 2nd fret into that 4th fret on the 3rd string. Thanks again, I'll be back for more.
Thank you my brother, love it. What a great song and memory. I was a senior in High school when this came out and it was my absolute favorite that year. Great training, now if I can just sing with it. It is hard for me to sing when the picking is complex, too much going on. God bless
Well thank you very much. You seem to have a good ear. That’s a very sweet sound you have on your guitar. I like the way it rings. I bet it sounds fantastic when it’s miked up with the band.
Hey sir, yes, this Taylor is sweet. and when I add jsut a touch of chorus and a dahsh of reverb from my mixer, it has an incredible sound. Thank you for commenting.
hey that works gaylerd cool this is my all time favorite tune from growing up. thank you so much for taking the time to do this for me.I also listened to your guy do the james taylor song he is really good. would think it was james himself wish i sounded that good. thanks again sir always look forward to your post.keep up the great work
thakn you for wathicng. Yes, fretkiller is incredible. I didn't know he had a lesson on this one, I should have watched his first. He is the best i've seen on here. Thanks again my friend.
Hello Frankie, glad this video helped you. I remeber this song from long, long ago as well. Always loved it. Thanks for taking time to comment, and for being so kind. -Gaylerd
Hi; Appreciate your shout out for the Lord. Have you considered Danny Okeefe's new song--"Pray For Me?" It is a fabulous melody. I wrote christian lyrics to Good Time Charlie, but i can't get him to consider them.
I am in such a rut. Chords come easier to me than these critical individual notes. I am now on a quest to re program my brain; in one's 60's that can be a challenge. But thank you so much.
Hey sixstringthing, You know, I tTHINK that I hit both the 3rd and 2nd string simulataneoulsy with a very quick down stroke and then and up stroke. But you have to do it in a single count, as though it was just one stroke. I kinda of do this out of habit and its hard for me to explain. I'm sorry this one is diffcult for you, I just don't quite know how to explain the picking on those 2 strings. Keep trying, you'll get it.
In case anyone is interested, that 2nd chord is called Cmaj7. You don’t have to be a ‘chord guy’ to hear the beauty in Major 7th chords, and maybe want to explore and learn more about them. And knowing can help learning go faster, too.
Gosh Regis, the only comments I have ever removed are the ones that had foul language in them. I am so sorry if I removed it by mistake. Please forgive me Regis!
Gee whiz... I made a very encouraging and complimentary comment here last month and I see It's been removed... Just wondering why ? ... many blessings to you anyway..
That's a lonely song. All your family is gone and most of the people you ever knew have moved away or died off. Meloncholy is beautiful but it leaves an empty feeling.
Yes, I used to love that song back in high school. , but it really does leave you feeling empty when you listen to the words. You're right horseman, you're right. thanks for taking time to comment , you are appreciated sir! - Gaylerd
I like the concept used on your sight but trying to follow along with any Tabs is the a non-starter...takes too long to fumble through. That being said, I decently like the arrangements. Kind of like "FretKiller's" style, but same problem...hard to translate into practical use with life time constraints.
