  • With the New Year arriving, it's traditional for many people around the world to create New Year's resolutions for themselves. Archimandrite Akakios Hagiogrēgoritēs, the Abbot of Saint Gregory Palamas Monastery and a Professor at Saint Photios Orthodox Theological Seminary, recently gave a public lecture at the Seminary that can help you figure out your own New Year's resolutions. His lecture is entitled, "The Value of Order in Spiritual Life."
In his lecture, Father Akakios highlights the importance of having order in our everyday spiritual lives.

May God keep Archmandrite Akakios preserved from the malice of the evil one by the prayers of Panagia.

Thank you for this heartfelt teaching. I really appreciated the likening of sin to an illness. It truly is and makes us completely sick in our souls. Thank God for His Son Jesus that paid the price for our sins. Like Paul said, where sin abounds grace does much more abound. Therefore, I would say if someone is sinning more than they need more grace. Enjoyed it. Thank you!

    Simple and straightforward. Thanks, SPOTS.
Are there any plans to do a bit more of a "deep dive" on how the sacraments and the ascetic practices of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving act against the destructive and separating effects of sin from a mystical perspective in the tradition of the fathers? I really dig that type of content and I simply haven't gotten around to devoting the time to read the works of the fathers first hand. Seeing a lecture or two on a given father would provide some focus for the likes of me.
I will look forward to more public lectures!

The audio is unfortunately not the clearest. Nonetheless, thank you.
