  • The ACC is facing lawsuits from Clemson and Florida State in which both schools are attempting to leave the league to join the SEC or the Big 10. If Miami were to join them and Notre Dame stays independent, who should they try and bring with them to get into the Power 2?
On today's episode of Locked On College Football, Spencer McLaughlin also discusses the Pac-12 having a great weekend. The league is getting a financial boost from the NCAA Tournament, but they need to back it up this Fall on the field. 11:35
Florida State quarterback DJ Uiagalelei is at his third school in as many seasons after Jonathan Smith left Corvallis for East Lansing and the Michigan State job. Can he be what Jordan Travis was for the Seminoles and Mike Norvell in 2024? 20:40

Better job this time. Good show. You did well. The main thing regards to Big Ten expansion you’re starting to hone in on now is marquee football history program with viewership in a recruit rich larger/growing population area. The academics/research is important, but don’t have to be, say, top 10 type , just above average. Notre Dame is a standing ask. So, FSU and Clemson and Miami meet all those. The Q is UNC and North Carolina State. Do they want to join the Big Ten, will they separate to do it for UNC only? Georgia Tech is an outlier because of the Atlanta area market and academics/research. They are not that interested in Virginia/Virginia Tech. If enough room, after such, is Pitt.

Subpar facilities?? You really are uninformed. They just had a new indoor practice field, new weight room, new dorms, and are building a 150 million dollar football office complex and football recruiting center . As for no stadium Coral Gables property is very expensive or non existent. And isn't Northwestern in the B1G with a small student enrollment (also a private school) . Miami is prob a 50/50 shot to end up in the Big12 or Big10 (no SEC). If FSU goes to the SEC, then they have a stronger chance of getting in the Big10. If FSU goes to the Big10, it almost kills Miami's chances to the Big10 - FSU/Miami are not a package deal and are not desired as such. Can't see Miami going to the SEC - it's just not a fit at all.

Spencer since you referred to your Spiderman sense, you really need think of realignment in Batman and Robin candidates. ND, FSU, Clemson, UNC are Batman schools. They can get invites to P2 conferences by themselves. Miami, UVA, GT and other ACC schools are Robin schools. They only get P2 invites if they go as a pair with a Batman school. Miami with AAU makes them the top ACC Robin school. IMO Miami doesn’t have a P2 landing spot and could easily end up being a B12 school.

I would agree with your Batman/Robin analogy in all but one respect.
I believe Virginia can be a Batman school (for the Big10 only) simply because of Academics, Endowment level, AAU status and would lock down the DC/Northern Virginia market - plus gives you more reach into the Maryland/Delaware - West Virginia areas. The northern Virginia and DC area is loaded with Big10 school alumni with even more with recently added schools.

Actually I believe Miami was given an unofficial invite to the B1G before FSU. I know fsu has a short memory but Miami and ND got Aau status when fsu got turned down. University of Michigan and Ohio state presidents pulled strings to get Miami in. They also want Miami in the B1g along with FOX. Plus Miami academics are better than fsu our recruiting and nil programs are top 5 unlike you got it fsu. The rent there players for a year no development. Also Miami research is a big money maker.

Miami administration fleeced the program for 20 years, using pre 2002 success to fund its programs. Donna Shala was the catalyst, in the last 2.5 years the new president has gone all in on the football team and first sign of progress are the two highest recruiting classes ever at Miami. First time in many years returned both coordinators ( showing they are finally paying the staff well). Year 3 should bring it all together with a winning team 9+ should be the minimum. Let's see how it plays out this year. It comes at a time when Miami needs to look good for the shifting landscape.

I don't know that the big 10 is going to accept a traveling companion team with Miami, if indeed they end up with Miami.... just because Miami wants to have a team they can beat more regularly. The Big 10 is going to want teams that make them more competitive, both on the field and with finances, with the SEC. If the SEC continues to expand... Because we're talking revenue shares. That's probably going to take precedent over academics.... Personally, I'm not sold it Florida State is going to go to the SEC over the Big ten. It could be.... If ESPN helps Florida State get a better settlement on their buyout. If they don't, then I think they're coming to the Big ten.
