I have every Ryan Adams CD, including the Whiskey Town Cd's and the Cardinals Cd's, and I can honestly say there is not one song on any of the Cd's that I don't adore. Sometimes an artist comes along that makes music that just awakens something in you, it makes you feel more, it permeates your soul. Ryan Adams music does that for me, no matter how many times I listen to his music it never loses the intensity of the first time I heard it.
Love Ryan. Can’t wait to see him on stage again. The elegance of his songwriting and his musical sensibility are one of a kind. Best songwriter of our generation, hands down.
Never before have I heard a guy mix rock and roll and country so well. Not to mention his absolutely inspired lyrics. This man is a unrecognized genius. If you know of him, you love him. If you don't you write him off as another country act. He's so fucking good though. I can't get enough.
Simply amazingly beautiful! Saw Ryan in Vancouver almost a year ago now, and was probably one of the best shows I've ever seen at the Commodore! Ryan couldn't sing any more from the heart!!
As a welshman living in London this makes me cry and reminds me of home every time I hear it, the line "may you one day carry me home" has so much meaning for me, amazing song, end of.
Townes Van Zandt is best American song writer since Bob Dylan, but since Townes started in the 70's, I would say Ryan Adams is the best American song writer since Townes.
Ryan Campbell Hey Ryan, I don't know Townes, this is probably embarrassing but thanks for the tip. If he's in the calibre of the other two names mentioned I'm definitely missing out.
Ryan Adams at his absolute best. Stripped back, pure and heart-felt. Where did it all go wrong from this much talent? Bring back the real Ryan we see here!!!
This is literally the best version of this song I've ever heard. Currently in North Carolina, where I've been for a week. A South Carolinian born and bred. Ryan perfectly captures the pleasures of being from the South.
I know right!!....Ive heard every recorded version of this over and over but the raspyness of his voice and maybe his "state of mind" here kept the tempo a little slower and heartfelt.....hes a much better singer these days but this is classic.
OH my god. It's like he is my favorite voice to listen to ever! I could listen to him all day long with a cocktail on a beach and have that voice coming in with in the waves!! -BA
this is just perfection..every note he plays and every note he sings is just sublime..wonderful..this is what music is all about.. and the lyrics!!OMG!
I spent alot of my childhood in Jacksonville his hometown and I live in Wilminton which is about forty minutes away. This Song is really special to me. I can understand why he wanted to escape that town so much. Even though it still does have its charm due to growing up there I wonder if he ever goes back.
when will this song ever get old?.....never.. beautifully expressed. every time im looking at videos on here, this alwyas pops up on "related vids" and i cant help but click on this, sit back have a ciggerate, and bask in the simplicty, and beauty of this song.. it is in a word..... "perfect" Ryan will die one day, (god forbid!) but this song will live on forever
I was so stoked that Paul from American Idol covered a Ryan Adams song. While most people, including J Lo, had no idea who Ryan Adams was, I was jumping up and down in my room singing along. I loved his cover of Come Pick Me Up. This is by far my favorite Ryan Adams song. Probably one of the greatest songs ever written. Honored to say he's from the great state North Carolina
How can a regular lookin guy like him,but quite obviously not ,make me wanna bawl my freaking eyes out with music like this, and i'm a grown man,way past 21! LIVE FOREVER RYAN!!
Carolina I used to dream of Carolina Till I moved to Tennessee... Made all my moves when I was younger Now I am sitting on the porch By a road that calls to me Listening to the thunder of a fast approaching storm Letting memories drag me under While the bottle keeps me warm... M.S. Morrison
2023 and still I'm listening to this. My opinion its the best version. Its raw, Ryan's was a bit shabby from the night before. But my god its amazing 💚
I only knew him by name but never digged into his stuff...I'm positively surprised : I can feel passion, honesty and great lyrics, and that's all music needs...
Awesome vid. I actually met Ryan a few times back in the old Raleigh, NC days when he was playing drums in my buddy's band. Yes...drums. He was a bit of strange cat, but dude is mad talented...and that's an understatement.
I just met him on the street in New Orleans. His wife Mandy Moore is filming a movie right down the block from my house. He was so incredibly nice and actually engaged in conversation with me and was asking me questions and stuff. It's so refreshing to meet one of your musical idols and have them be completely down to earth and kind.
I remember watching him live back In 06 and some wanker in the crowd was heckling him, shouting 'play summer of 69' Ryan got really mad and stormed off of the stage; later on he came back and demanded the guy who was taunting him to come up on stage. at this point I was thinking 'holy shit we're gonna see a live execution' to my disappointment he only got him kicked out. My favourite song of all time though!!
Wow - Steve Earle and Neil Young just smiled. He did a beautiful version of this with the band last night at Massey Hall in Toronto. Different of course. This is sparse and deeply personal. The one with Emmy Lou is also haunting in a different way.

Still have the cds?
@ they’re in a huge CD binder in my closet 😭
Been a huge fan since Whiskeytown. Can't get enough of Ryan's solo stuff lately. Thirsting for more records!
Love Ryan. Can’t wait to see him on stage again. The elegance of his songwriting and his musical sensibility are one of a kind. Best songwriter of our generation, hands down.

the amount of soul Ryan puts into his music is amazing, and almost mind blowing, one of the great artists of a generation.
I'm from Kentucky and living in Germany and that one line leaves me in tears everytime. I know exactly what you're feeling.
Simply amazingly beautiful! Saw Ryan in Vancouver almost a year ago now, and was probably one of the best shows I've ever seen at the Commodore! Ryan couldn't sing any more from the heart!!
I love Ryan Adams.
His songs are full of so much and it's something to relax to.
An amazing natural harmonic on his guitar by 0:51 !!! Love Ryan !!!
Haha only the super clued in hear such dynamite!!
thought the same thing!
One of my all time favorites. This song did a lot for me in my youth as a person and a signer songwriter.
As a welshman living in London this makes me cry and reminds me of home every time I hear it, the line "may you one day carry me home" has so much meaning for me, amazing song, end of.
I'm gonna say it, it's contentious but I'm gonna say it. Ryan Adams' is the best American song writer since Bob Dylan.

mojojojo787 listen to Townes, for the love of all that is good and awesome about music, listen to Townes.
After 56 years of listening for me the order is: Townes, Dylan, Prine, Clark, and Adams. Ryan Adams is a true genus and extremely underrated.
Does that mean he passed up James Taylor along the way?
So beautiful. I love the lyrics because I live in San Antonio & most of my family is in Kentucky. P.S. great Miller Lite shirt.
Ryan Adams at his absolute best. Stripped back, pure and heart-felt. Where did it all go wrong from this much talent? Bring back the real Ryan we see here!!!
It is a shame that more people like Ryan are not recognized. This is some of the best music we have going.
He is recognized. He’s been written about quite a bit.
man you don’t know how many times i’ve found myself back here. I was here from start 18 years ago, my man. thanks for the ride. hope you good
Me too ❤
this song really hits home for me...Ryan Adams has to be one of the best if not the best of this generation...period

It don't get any better then this. "Oh my, Sweet Carolina...." What a story teller!!!
I don't care how many times I hear it, this song brings tears to my eyes and breaks my heart every single time ...so damn incredibly heartwrenching.
I spent alot of my childhood in Jacksonville his hometown and I live in Wilminton which is about forty minutes away. This Song is really special to me. Ryan will die one day, (god forbid!) but this song will live on forever
I can't help but listen to this and feel such an emotional stir. One of the most beautifully written and performed songs I have heard. Seriously...
Everytime I listen to this version,it brings me chills....God bless you Ryan....
His songs are so raw and captivating. I love you, Ryan Adams :)

I could listen to this song all day, every day, a million different versions....as long as Ryan Adams is performing: any cover is blasphemy.
How can a regular lookin guy like him,but quite obviously not ,make me wanna bawl my freaking eyes out with music like this, and i'm a grown man,way past 21! LIVE FOREVER RYAN!!
Carolina
I used to dream of Carolina
Till I moved to Tennessee...
Made all my moves when I was younger
Now I am sitting on the porch
By a road that calls to me
Listening to the thunder
of a fast approaching storm
Letting memories drag me under
While the bottle keeps me warm...

This song is about hurt and pain.
Which is something the youngsters of today wouldn't know anything about.

I only knew him by name but never digged into his stuff...I'm positively surprised : I can feel passion, honesty and great lyrics, and that's all music needs...
This must be why I lack talent, Ryan Adams got all of it. Simply incredible.

My boss got me into Ryan Adams, and I must say, he's definitely one of my favorites now.
The way his voice breaks whenever he sings the word 'sweet' is heartbreaking. So good.
this song was written by Ryan Adams, originally appeared on the album Heartbreaker in 2000.
I second that Leslie, This is also my favorite song by Adams. And I was pretty surprised to hear him honored on American Idol.
he is AMAZING! i'm going to see him in toronto on sept 21 :)
This is one of those songs I'd want to fall asleep to but I'd also want to stay up just to finish listening to it.
He DOES come to England. I saw him in September 06. He is amazing. Ryan rules.
