Never let it be said that Letterman doesn't have great taste in music--or that Mr Adams isn't one of the finest talents to come down the road in a long time.
How many people can hold a roomful of people with just a guitar, a soulful voice and such penetrating words. It’s a rare thing so thanks Ryan Adams
Not many, but James Taylor and Bob Dylan come to mind.
Guess Neil young done slipped you fingers….
Jeff Buckley definitely could. So could Prince (though he did pure solo pretty rarely)
@@bvaljalo Jeff was as ethereal as it gets. His lyricism and Ryan's are fairly comparable just such different styles and Jeff's voice is just unrivaled.
I don’t quite consider him to be in the tier of who has been stated here, but Jeff Mangum is a very worthy mention.
Once you get past the smoke and puff, space invaders, batman and all the other distractions- this is one of the most gifted talented sensitive songwriters and one hell of a superb acoustic guitar player..
You’re right of course: it helped to concentrate on making the content of 16 albums his since 97% of the storylines are mine: ron belin
What about domestic abuse, and being a predator?
You and the rest of the liars opportunistic trash like you will get your comeuppance and soon: it’s called perjury and malicious libel..
@@ihavesoul4real Abuse? Wasnt he just a bit flirty on the webcam?
Just an absolute genius. Saw him in Melbourne, VIC (Australia) in 2017. Flew over from Adelaide, SA for the concert. With the Unknown Band, it was a brilliant concert performance. In my top 5 gigs of all-time (I'm 62yo).
The writing is remarkable and I've always been amazed by his ability to put great melody to it. The twang and grit of old Whiskeytown still gives me goosebumps. "Excuse Me..." is priceless.
Sneaky good singing voice. This is no amateur. Love this guy. Writes like Dylan, but sings far, far better.
Pro trick : watch series on flixzone. Me and my gf have been using it for watching lots of of movies lately.
@Keagan Quinton Yea, have been using Flixzone for months myself :D
I got sixteen days
One for every time I've gone away
One for every time I should have stayed
You should have worn my wedding ring
I got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
Its way back to your side
The ghost has got me running
The ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away from you.
The ghost has got me running
The ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away from you.
I got sixteen days
Got a bible and a rosary
God, I wish that you were close to me
Guess I owe you an apology
I got sixteen days
Fifteen of those are nights
Can't sleep when the bed sheet fights
Its way back to your side
The ghost has got me running
Yeah, the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away from you.
The ghost has got me running
Yeah, the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away
Old tin cups, little paper dolls
All wrapped up, in ribbons, bowed with hearts
Old tin cups, and little paper dolls
All wrapped up, in the ribbons of your heart
The ghost has got me running
Yeah, the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away from you.
The ghost has got me running
Yeah, the ghost has got me running
Away from you, away from you, away from you.
Sixteen days
I got sixteen days
It's like before I hang
I will never forget meeting Ryan across the street from The Fillmore in San Francisco and the unbelievable show that followed. It will be a permanent watermark on my life.
uggggh tell us more please kind sir?
yo
File this one under great performances.
okrajoe he doesn't do the other kind
I was at the Cincinnati show this winter and at is so great to see Ryan in a good place again. The whole show was top tier and the crowd was locked in.... what an absolute treasure
First song I ever heard him do, I think it was from the Whiskeytown days. I was so hooked fast. Such a talent!!
I remember finding this album in the UK in 98. I heard it for the first time and knew I’d stumbled across something very spacial. I’ve listen to Ryan since and he is a very accomplished musician and songwriter.
Great song. Great performance. Probably the best songwriter of his generation.
Nah. Tom Waits is best, Mary Gauthier is next, with John Prine coming in third. Ryan is a bit down the list, but is promising, for sure.
Victor Edwards I agree the three are all top top top tier but dont know that Ryan Adams is part of the same generation really. But you have good taste for bringing them up. Id put Nick Cave on that shelf too.
@@victoredwards0530 tom waits is like 70 years old dickhead
@@victoredwards0530 Tom Waits? Not even close.
Since I wrote the storylines for most every song he’s released or otherwise I’m certainly appreciative of those sentiments
Just wondering, how can there possibly be 2 dislikes on this song? What!? Deaf maybe? I love this song...maybe addicted to this song! ♪
+Gingerjake2 Some people just have hatred in their heart . . . we call them Nickelback fans . . . This song, like so many of his songs, is positively brilliant!
+John Moonitz yes, I guess that's it...lives that are so small they're unable to appreciate anything that doesn't fit in it. They don't want to hear a good melody, good lyrics & a great voice...my condolences to them. ♪
This is my favourite song from Stranger's Almanac. It is an amazing album.
I'm a Matthew Good fan and I endorse this comment!
Maybe they didn’t like the acoustic version. Or maybe they didn’t like the standard def version that’s letterboxed and center cut. Or maybe their boss ragged on em that day. Or maybe their team lost. I don’t know.
That's how you write lyrics.
Love this tune.
His work spans a few decades and even at his tender age, the man brings experience you feel to the subject matter he examines in his work. Sincerity is a true currency in songwriting which makes Ryan wealthy beyond our understanding.
I have always respected this young man's talent.. You cannot pigeonhole him , he is not afraid to take chances. Where one might have been content to stay in the seminal sound of Whiskeytown he has always expanded his musical horizons.. For that I will give him big kudos.. A tunesmith that I greatly admire..
The best musicians need only their voice/soul and an instrument. He's one.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!! Bravo, Ryan Adams - everything you do is pure MAGIC!! Your music heals heads, hearts and souls. Will love your artistry forever!! You are aces!!
Absolute musical genius
15 of those are nights...
Ryan Adams is so amazing, idk if I like him solo better or with Whiskey town. Either way he is hands down my favorite human alive.
Such a beautiful song. Ryan makes it feel more personal here, singing in almost whispered hushes, compared to in the Whiskeytown days. Listening to the lyrics, I ask you, RUclips viewers: what (or who) is the "ghost" from which our dear Ryan finds himself running away? Is the ghost a memory of someone? A fear he's trying to avoid facing?
Furthermore, what exactly is happening in 16 days? I know there are lots of crowd-sourced opinions, but what has Ryan actually said about what the song is about?
he's got 16 days sober.
Unbelievable talent
So gifted
Love him
I wish CBS would release to entire show on video.
What a gift to Music Ryan is! In fact, he is more what Music is supposed to do and be.
Whiskey town were a fantastic band. Great song. About a guy on death row waiting to die I believe.
I fucking ADORE this young mans writing! He makes it ok when i feel the need to cry....
Came back for another listen, yep it is still a damn fine tune.. Ryan has the gift..
i cannot thank you enough for posting this whole show! you have made me one happy fan! this song is particularly amazing.
I've never tired of this. Great song
16 days....I adore this song. consummate artist!
Ryan is the best ❤❤😻😻
I mean, of course. if you have 16 days...15 of those are nights...but putting that in a song makes you brilliant.
when the fuck did this happen and how the hell was I not aware!?
If you like this, check out Jason Isbell. Was with Drive By Truckers, then with his band, The 400 Unit. Unbelievable talent. They remind me of each other - the wear-it-on-your-sleeve honesty.
+Peter Kier - I've been a DBT/Isbell fan for a long time.... RA fan for even longer. Saw Isbell w/ the 400 Unit in Orlando a while back with about 20 people and was so confused at the lack of people there (this was during his drinking days).. man has that changed. I've seen him several times since and always a huge crowd. I had wanted to hear Isbell solo-acoustic since his DBT days because I felt he would be unbelievable. I was fortunate enough to see him open for RA in San Diego during an RA tour and was blown away, especially when he sang Alabama Pines. I'd venture to say I enjoyed his set more than Ryan's, and that's hard for me ;). His albums following that have been unbelievable. Got to see him and his amazing wife play with RA at the Ryman not too long ago too. He's right up there with Ryan in my book, close 2nd of course ;).
That wife of his is a huge talent in her own right, but also she was the one who could be said to have saved Jason from his demons. Now he is one of the best talents in music.
Victor, yes! She is amazing! I met Jason right before he got sober. He was looking rough but put on a hell of a show
They're actually pretty good friends. Ryan was apparently a friend to Jason when he was getting sober. Isbell wrote Chaos and Clothes about Ryan's divorce from Mandy Moore. I've seen Isbell and Adams play together live once, but it's happened more than a few times based on the videos on RUclips. Two lyrical heavyweights. Would STRONGLY recommend checking out Joe Pug's entire catalog if you're into this. Also, American Aquarium and the frontman, BJ Barham's solo record. Also, Justin Townes Earle.
It misses Caitlin Cary backing vocals
Nope
My goodness. This speaks to my soul.
Iron maiden jacket he's wearing.
A true talent. Wonderful song.
Beautiful performance. What a great song.
Amazing. I am speechless.
thank God for the genius that is the wonderful Mr Adams.
What a great talent....unbelievable
WOW, much like watching Bruce play Nebraska live.
Been loving this song since 98
i'm guessing 7 people are Justin Beiber fans
make that 12
What a song.
Favorite song of all time.
Thats a good one to have.
Olivia Velez one of mine if not my all time. I like this version best.
Dude does not write bad songs.
I would agree. If these are mostly his own songs, he becomes one of the better writers of our day, really.
Luke Roth Yes he does. Tons of them. He just happens to write a lot of really good songs too. He writes like mad.
Best in the business.
Incredible knack for delivering a song. Thanks for posting this great tune.
I hope other people feel the same way about Ryan Adams as I do. Some of his songs are honestly so perfect for me that I physically can't bring myself to explain the sheer emotion that overcomes me when I hear his voice. Sometimes it's joy, being so amazed at the flawless music. But do you find yourselves listening to these songs on repeat and feeling hurt? If you do, stop listening to this stuff and branch out. Listen to early hip-hop, some Soundgarden and throw in some reggae ffs. Live life!
Sometimes you need to look at where you are and see where that is.
.. got a bottle and a rosary.. freakin amazing songwriter #ryanadams🌟
Ryan, please come play in Portland, OR. ...
we love you!

It's like Gram Parsons back from the grave. Magnificent.
skydog757 , You are right! Reincarnation

negative... gram parsons was not one to abuse women as Ryan adams has
This was about something entirely off-context until the hook:
How does 'old tin cups' and 'little paper dolls' fit in with this song? I don't get it.
He got some cheapo guitars, I bet that harmonicaaint cheap ? Great songwriting
I've got 10 days before I hang. It's quite a poignant date and I am fed up of this world. No bottles or bibles and rosaries
I hear so much of Jeff Buckley in his voice and temperament.
I hear Dylan, but better.

If only Whiskeytown could've lasted longer. I suppose we maybe wouldn't have gotten much of Ryan's solo stuff, which is absolutely incredible, but Faithless Street and Strangers Almanac remain as Ryan's best work IMO.
Very nice! Made my evening. Thank you for posting and thank you Ryan!
So fucking great! Got the chills. DAMN
One of my faves by Mr.Adams
Best damn version of this song I've ever heard.
Best in the world!
the guitar at 2.49.

What a prolific singer, song writer. Reminds me of a modern day Neil Young.
Man, I can’t get enough of this song. Or of Whiskeytown and Adams for that matter.

what is the last words in this song? I've been wondering for years!!

If you like this song, listen to "Just Let It Come Down Over Me" by Noel Gallagher. Ryan is hyper talented but still, no one comes remotely close to The Chief. One is brilliant. The other a legend.
Nah, this one is better.
Peter Zellner nah one is literally Paul McCartney (or even considered a greater songwriter and performer than him-as in the greatest ever-not just by me but the consensus of music historians) and the other is a talented musician. See if you can sincerely figure out which one is which. And that includes Lennon, Dylan, Nilsson, Young, Townsend, Mercury, Bowie, John, Joel, and Lynne. Noel stands above them all. That’s why when you read the comment section of any of Noel’s 100’s of brilliant songs (not under 10 like Ryan), the word God is used in almost every sentence from fans and people alike in every corner of the earth. Try to find that word once for Ryan Adams. He is a phenomenally gifted and talented musician and I love his music. But there is only one God (rock n Roll speaking) and anyone who knows music will tell you the same:)
what kind of guitar is that, love the sound
Harmony Sovereign, newish, ladder braced cheapo probably early '70s. Cool axe...
thank you sir
why are the original studio versions of these songs not posted any where?
Thanks so much, has been forever since I heard this one kinda made my eyes wet from :)
In many ways, it just sounds like a typical folk song. There's no unique melody to it as such. Perhaps people just like these sorts of songs for the mood they set.
Listened to the first minute and didn't like it! Thanks tho
Haven't heard your stuff yet frank?
All of the videos are great! Thanks for sharing. Ryan is a wonderful artist
A great version of a great song. And the Iron Maiden jacket rocks!!!!
sounds like neil young in his early days.
He genuinely channels Neil Young.
neil1957johnsen is right i was just playing along in G
Yeah, Thank you for posting all these clips. It's amazing.

in what key is the harmonica?
