NICELY HANDLED! I'm shouting with excitement. This is so cool. I too was wondering if I'd ever see it again. Very clever and creative on your part. I applaud this feat. Great job.:D
In the pixelation sequence we see Christopher Lydon, who joined WGBH and the 10 O'Clock News in 1977, so this sequence cannot be from any earlier than that year. Perhaps their was a very similar sequence with many of the same photo stills that was used prior to 1977 and then was updated.with new ones with newer programming. Amusingly enough, it was never updated again for at least 12 more years. :-)
NOTICE: 10-01-21: fred rogers co. + youtube Removed my (2) MSTS1 Vids of WGBH-2 which contained Misterogers program openings-closings, effective 10/1/21. Both were on YT since 2007 and, seemed to delight thousands of viewers world-wide. Please understand: The removal is by Fred Rogers Co and You Tube ONLY. THEY are responsible for Your Loss, and no one else.
thanks for making this video! Can you tell me the name of the instrumental piece of music that can be heard in the background. thanks so much, I look forward to hearing back from you!

As from today, Tuesday the 1st of September 2020, WGBH eliminated the W from it's name, and now it's simply "GBH"
So THAT'S what went down in the "WGBH (1975)" rip over on the CBSEye76 channel!
"This is WGBH Boston" No one could say that like William Pierce..

That's a good point however the last surname gets lost in the fadeout as well. But still, if I ever try to improve this, I'll keep your idea in mind.

Didn't know that
Very rare
David Gregory, alumni of Channel 2's 10 o'clock News, now at NBC. I have not forgotten too! Was the sweeper sweeping for the duration?
A recording of a 1973 WGBH sign-off just surfaced: ruclips.net/video/yrGrmkpZ62A/видео.html
Thank you for adding that info, appreciated

yes please, I have been trying to find this for the last few decades.
Andrew Arvin - Rondo A Go-Go. Note that the actual music is a pitch lower than what you're used to hearing.
@hikkupf Apparently David Gregory may be on his way out of nbc news.
Could someone tell me the name of the arrangement playing in this sweeper??
Who was the sweeper guy near the end of the video?
