This was a highly underrated game from Sierra. It would have made a great movie adaptation too! It was pretty creepy playing this in the dark at night.
Seeing '13 years ago' on videos freaks me out 😅 happy to have found this one though. I've been trying to find other adventure game reviewers since Pushing up Roses stopped doing game retrospectives so I'm hoping I've now got a few to watch on you channel. Great video 😊
I absolutely love the old Sierra adventure games. My introduction to these fantastic games was hero's quest and it got me craving for more and more. I think Laura Bow 1 is among the better titles in the Sierra library and I really enjoyed it back in the day. I'm still extremely disappointed in how they drifted so far from these classic games and how they were made. This Agata Christie'esque title and it's sequel are great nuggets in gaming history and very underrated in terms of storyline.
Love it! I really liked this game too. It was the first adventure game that really shocked me multiple times. Don't worry so much about time limits in your reviews. I'd love to hear all you have to say.
6:15 - Incorrect, you can stand somewhere or anywhere without advancing time. Only when you enter a screen or trigger an event, does time advance. Hence you can advance 1 hour in game time in literally 5 minutes, or you can advance 1 hour in 5 hours real time.
The VGA and the EGA version came out at the same time. Lucusarts was so far ahead that they in fact released a different VGA version as most computers were not able to play it. (most people didn't even have vga rdy monitors) I wanted to mention this but as i said i just ran out of room in the video
It is possible I have made a mistake here but none of those sites, Wikipedia, the Indy site moby etc I have looked at speak of a different year for the release of the 2nd version. the FM-Towns were produced from 89-97, and my understanding was that the FM-Town version was ported as the VGA version and released the same year as the ega version for PC. Like I said, this is my understanding and I can not find any info saying the VGA version of released in the 90s.
As I have already said.... "but that doesn't change the fact that technological improvements like scrolling background, or Parallax Background.. the list dose go on" Ture Sprite Scaling, Layered focus actors... there is just a huge list of how sierra was behind. Though they caught up fairly quickly.
@AdventureReviews That's great to hear, man! I hope you let us know when it's ready :P And one question, I'm looking for a good graphic adventure about aliens or something like that, do you know any? (I've played shadow of the comet, the Dig, DarkSeed...)
@dajazman2k I do not know what is causing that I know exactly what you are talking about.. you can see it really badly in the face closeups in my Shadow of the comet review. in dosbox for the next one I will try setting "scaler=none" ???. The smoothing of the pixels might be caused during the editing and encoding and then re-encoding by youtube itself... . .
Again we are not talking about KQ5 or MI, we are talking about CB. And yes I also find CB gfx very effective but that doesn't change the fact that technological improvements like scrolling background, or Parallax Background.. the list dose go on. Also no need to apologize for comments I like comments
Going pretty well.. we have a decent amount of the art assets done.. but still a lot to do. There is also some talk of just continuing building teh art assest and see how the development of wme2 goes.. i may be in a beta release by the time we are done with the 3d art assets... and then we could switch to a more modern looking engine. Either way the website should be up soon.
Congratulations! Another fine review Imho, and a bit of Adventuregame history as well. I must admit that while I really like this game and it's sequel, I have always sucked at these two :D I never seem to get enough info for my deduction at the Endgame quiz, But I do appreciate these games for being so inventive. That feeling of events happen around you with or without you being there is a really nice touch, and i really gave the feeling that I was a Poirot like sleuth caught up in the Drama :-)
Again.. as I said... If you can show me evidence of this then I'll make a revision note. But as I said, I it is my understanding that both the 3 versions were released in the same year 1989... I know 3 different sources that state this... please send me any information you can find to support your claims.
Two other games like that: Abadia del Crimen and Maupiti Island. Sadly I played this game way after the glory days of adventures. And I could not enjoy it much. Graphically though it is pretty good. Maybe as good as Indy or more. But not as good as Monkey Island.
Yea some people have already said this but I still can not find any evidence that supports what you are saying. If you have some let me know. My understanding is that the EGA PC and the FM-Towns VGA version AND the PC VGA FM-Towns PC port were released in the same year, 89. Now again, I am not a hardcore researcher, so this may be wrong.. but like I said I had this discussion a few times and no one can seam to provide anything that says they were released on different dates..
I totally disagree with this. I have another review coming up for a 89 game form accesses I'll make a note to add a CB comparison on sound ion there so you can see a working example of how far sierra audio was behind.
Well this is the last time I will comment on this same issue again and again. Of course i have seen the EGA version. The EGA and the VGA were released in the SAME year. In the same way a CD and a diskette version of say Gabriell Knight was released in the same year. In fact there are 3 versions of this game all released in 89. You say the sources I am going off are wrong... please show me any information to support your contention and I will make an adjustment to the video.
Well can you please email me the link,.. as every site i look at supports that they were released at the same time in 89. Make sure you looking for "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: The Graphic Adventure" not "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" witch was released in the 90s
There is no need to state the exact information again, unless you provide some proof that there was in fact a different year for the VGA release. As I have 3 sources that say it was the same year.
Dude, I like your reviews. But do you have to use the filters in the DOS emulator your using. I hate that "painted" look it gives by smoothing everything out. Keep it real. Show us the REAL graphics.
Such an underrated game, there were so many nuanced secrets to figure out in this gem.
This was a highly underrated game from Sierra. It would have made a great movie adaptation too! It was pretty creepy playing this in the dark at night.
Very keen observations about gaming back then and what made this game so unique and clever. Brilliant review. Thx for sharing.

Love the reviews :) Would love to see one of the Quest for Glory's done. I'm so glad I found your channel!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm really looking forward to hear about your own Adventuregame (if you want to talk about that is) :-)

@AdventureReviews Hobby adventure game? How is that going?
I think The Colonel looks better than Indiana Jones .... lol. But that's just me! Nice review, thanks!

Very innovative.
but there are a number of sources that say there were the same date. If you have a source.. please post it.. I would love to red it.

.... um... well they defiantly sound better to my ears.

LA had interactive cursors, full click game play (no text input), scrolling scenes, the list goes on an on
Do a new review without the time constraint 🙂
