I always wish these series would show the raw unedited photo alongside the final edit. That way we can see what your editing intention was. Simply seeing the final image doesn't really explain too much to the viewer, in terms of what the original shot looked like. Many will no doubt go out looking for these types of photos, despite the fact that they do not exist like this without editing. Seeing the unedited shots provides much more info to someone trying to learn. When my photographer friends showed me their unedited shots, scenes and composition began making much more sense to me. I could see the starting steps of the shot, and then the final result.

Hi Pat, I'm 42 and have only been taking pictures for 5 months. Your vlogs have helped my photography come on so fast it's unreal. I've watched many other vloggers and haven't learnt near as much as from you. Your manner and how your explain things is superb. Thank you 👏👏

    4:23 well said
4:56 need to not be afraid of doing this as well! A lot of the times I feel like I “have” to stick to rules like the shadows shouldn’t be too dark, but in special cases, tonal contrast just makes it better
    Mote examples

I've picked up my old photography hobby slowly in the last few years. Of all the RUclips channels I stumbled on, only two including yours produced systematic, quality educational material, helped me more focused when I approach a view or look at a photo, and led me naturally for more learning. Once I finish these episodes, I will get on your Patron site for more study. Aside from all the content, I like the cover page for these episodes, and I'm also thinking a page of text summary in each episode might be helpful when we need to recall these highlights, but I am not sure...everyone's thinking process is different.

Great video. You covered a lot it 10 minutes, but one idea that I found especially useful is that bringing the highlights up and the shadows down to the point of losing detail can enhance the photo by increasing contrast. In the future I will be less afraid of losing definition if it makes for a more dramatic image.

Whenever I hear the word "contrast" I cannot help but think of Nicole Kidman as Virginia Woolf in the movie "The Hours." While in the process of writing her novel, "Mrs. Dalloway", Virginia says something like, I added another character for CONTRAST. This is the same concept as in photography but used in literature. A very useful concept.

Now..let me test my visual skills:
In the blurred background I see a 70-200 lens (hope I got it right), the reason of why you didn't put it up and it lays down, is because it would draw to much attention?
    Or..I'm crazy :))

I have a question, how do you have such clean looking images, the whites seem to be so bright and dont do that weird fade thing when a bright spot in the sky fades towards a darker blue sky. And the pictures also look so damn clear, is this due to camera and lens or is it an eidting thing? I shoot on a nikon d7100 with nikkor lenses and I dont feel like my images are quite as crisp as yours. Thanks
