Suresh Talwalkar (On Tabala) was born in 1948 to the Dholebuva family of acclaimed kirtankars. Kirtankars are those who perform kirtans, a form of devotional and musical discourse. Thus, an appreciation of music was embedded in Talwalkar in his childhood. At a young age, he was taught how to play the tabla by his father, Dattatray Talwalkar, as well as the veteran musician Pt Pandharinath Nageshkar, a disciple of Ustad Ahmed Jan Thirakwa and Pt Vinayakrao Ghangrekar. He also studied the intricacies of Carnatic layashastra (a science of rhythm) from the acclaimed mridangam (a barrel-shaped drum) player Pt Ramnad Ishwaran. This diverse training in the music of both North and South India transformed Talwalkar into a solo performer with a unique musical voice. Throughout his career, Talwalkar had the privilege of accompanying great artists on stage. Pt Gajananbuwa Joshi and Pt Nivruttibua Sarnaik were amongst those he accompanied the most, and he attributes his insight into classical music to them.

I feel like any moment Rabindra song is going to start. Feels just like that. Maybe it's inspired from Rabrindra Songeet. He was Asia's first Nobel Prize winner.
Watched these icons perform at the UN in Geneva last year. It's a pity that they've started putting up such crowd pleasing performances to cater to a Western audience! They have a responsibility to show to the West the depth and beauty of the music they're capable of creating. And, I'm saying this as a Bangali even though they played a quintessentially Bengali dhun here.
But unfortunately you're right. Krishna says: manushinam sahasreshu kashchid yayati siddhaye. Only rarely seen a human whole heartedly endeavours for complete perfection.
but come on bro....they don't know about our Classical music. Even our people dont listen to our own Hindustani or Karnatic music. To do a show there in a limited amount of time given. They still have to give their best and represent our country. Sarod is an instrument even our people arent aware of. So lets cherish it.
You should be realistic about your expectations. They were up against 99% of the audience with no clue about oriental or Hindustani music. This was not an education session. I think their selection and tempo were spot on. You would be right if they played in your hometown for the audience familiar with your genre of music.
