Down blanket should definitely be your outter layer when sleeping. The feathers trap air and create a dead space, which prevents heat from moving through the blanket and radiating out into the cold air. Side note, if you have space at home, it's best to store them unpacked so you don't crush the insulation while it sits compressed in it's bag. Once you lose the loft, you lose insulation value, and your nice warm blanket won't be so warm anymore.
I believe your down layer is supposed to be the outer most layer as the loft of the down is supposed to insulate your body heat from escaping. If you squish it with a quilted blanket it almost defeats the lofted down.
This is my favorite part about the comments on my videos. I was thinking the physics of it would lend better if it were closer to my body - but what you're saying makes sense! Thanks for the feedback! Love learning new things.
Just picked up my Skycamp 4x and I absolutely love it. Just camped at Lake Mead and will be camping with it at Half Moon/NorCal in a couple of weeks. Love the vids!
With four walls I’m disappointed that the annex doesn’t have an option for a floor. It would be so incredible given that it all extends from the tent opening.
Because this is what all the other bigger youtube channels have gone to also these things all come and go in waves depending which company is paying/giving gear to show off their stuff. This is all corporate “grass roots” marketing.
Our boys will randomly start singing that song and we’re listening to it in the rig. Nice tent, I am done with the RTTs that have the dust covers too. If it has been dusty and then there is a dew that happens or light rain you just get nasty dirty.
Awesome video. I'm kind of over the 23Zero tent. I've had some issues with it, and I'm presently mad that they up and ghosted me when I mentioned the quality issues after years of supporting and promoting them. The iKamper has been on my radar now since I saw you and a few others with them. Just seems so much eaiser to setup. I've always had the advantage of the fact that with Ram Boxes I can stand and walk fully around my rack. But it wasn't until recently camping solo that I realized how much having my wife help me was actually making the process faster. That setup you showed is the big WANT driving me to switch tents. Think I might do that shortly...
Thanks so much for such a good review of an annex. Have been window shopping for a while, and am really wanting to be able to enjoy shelter/privacy getting in and out of a rooftop tent.
Haha nice catch. It is his. Same plate number. With that said, this tent as of right now is without argument the current pinnacle of roof top tents. So, hard to tell if he just used it and they contacted him vs paid and bought infomercial.
Jason, just experiment with cutting out sugar. No bread, rice, pasta, sugars from candy, chocolate, soda, etc. Try it and you should see a significant improvement with your arthritis. Sugar causes inflammation which will trigger the arthritis more.
The iKamper is what I’m going with and you have made a great choice with the annex room. Jason have you considered placing the iKamper above the cab of the truck? The smaller version of the iKamper could be placed over the rear truck bed allowing for the kids to stay.
Great setup. Instead of driving in tent stakes have you ever tired something called an orange screw.. you can find them on amazon and the work great. No hammer needed
I just came across your video how well does the diesel heater heat the annex and the tent I was wanting to do the same thing just trying to get as much info as I can before I make a purchase
I have contacted Bog Tent Outdours about your code. They say it’s just for 15% off Claymore lights. Not a free CapOn and Claymore Ultra with a tent purchase. Might be worth changing your information in the post Jason.
Hey Jason, I have a 2021 Bison ZR2 and am just beginning my overland build. Love to know more about the IKamper rooftop setup. What rack do you have it mounted on? What's the weight? Do they have solar panels mounts as an accessory? Thanks in advance. Charlie
I have the same thing on my right hand and I bought "Memphis Glove N9690L ninja Ice 15 Gauge gloves" on Amazon for $9.00, they are neoprene with a acrylic Terry liner and up here in British Columbia in the mountains I don't think there's a better glove for -30°C. Hey you can keep them in your Glove box too for when you need them.
How can I lock the ikamper so they won't steal it?? Also if I can lock it will it be OK if I live it attach to my xle rav 4 all the time? I always live my car outside in driveway and I work at a school which the neighborhood is not the best:(
Are you able to keep the down quilt inside the iKamper when you’re on the go? Just got the mini I have yet to put on and was hoping I can keep my sleeping gear in there.
It’s tight. I didn’t address this in the video, still tweaking how I want it. But with the quilts, blankets and pillows it was tight enough that I ended up pulling them out. It was more of a fight than I cared for. I keep them all in a waterproof duffle in the bed - it’s much faster than wat
Nice library of videos Jason, good work......I started watching the channel about 2-3 years ago when I was shopping around for a trailer camper and you were towing the Turtle Back. It's been interesting seeing the progression..... I like your current rig set-up! I did a ton of shopping around and watching videos back then when I found your channel on different rigs including yours and ended up getting a hard sided square-drop trailer, it sets up real easy. Kind of wondering why you hadn't gone a for flatbed and pop-up camper set-up? If you're curious or just bored I posted an atrocious video of my rig on my channel BirdPhish titled Expedition 2.0 by Off Grid Trailers at Trona Pinnacles. Oh, and keep shooting in manual mode.... :)
@@SwellRunner Oops. I probably saw the episode but I forgot all about. Now I must watch it again. Thanks for the reply. You are like the first author to reply to me. I feel special. 😁.
I'm pretty sold on the ikamper skycamp 2.0. My big questions is how roomy is it? Camping will be me, my wife and our 8&9 year old boys. Tent will go on the roof of a GX470. Is this roomy enough or do I need a 23zero 72 or larger?
I think there is no way to do ovelanding/little off road with family comfortable unless pull trailer or buy 200K van from Sportsmobile which ridiculous for the avg family unless you are millioner than why do you what to do overland just fly helicopter. Any tent too small for 4 people , two tents suck as you can't carry both them all the time to work. I mean it's like ovelanding is more single person or suffer with limitation to travel in remote places.
Vadim Zubkov I have an iKamper with annex, and if my 3 teenagers come and my wife then we use cots in the annex and the kids up top, or vice versa. I LOVE my iKamper, it’s everything they advertise it to be. I did add a Exped Duo as mentioned for more comfort. But that’s how I take my whole family
Yes it's possible definitely I meant when you have 100 F outside tent is really too hot . I like a tent by the Patriots campers but it's 60 k min their trailer . How Molly ? What is world can be for 60 k to buy for you ? I looked OPUS is about 25 K but the idea pulling long trailer is still struggling my mind. I had 3 people tent and it's good for two, it can be done in 1 2 nights max than it's not normal sleeping at all with 3 people, as I slept in annex as it had big annex. My wife said it's fine with two kids but tight. I will try Opus more likely and will try rent out with Ovelandbound community only. At least it will pay for itself . I wish some came with idea tent/camper that load flat up to roof on bed truck and unfolds to sleep 4 , similar to Patriots rent as thier last edition.
I really like the ikamper stuff. However.. they seem quite cumbersome if you wanna roll in late and set up camp. I like the simplicity of floor camping with my t4 but yes, there are those times I'd like to be off the ground too. Your hand being an issue would be a good reason alone to switch. 👍
The iKamper sets up faster than any other rooftop tent I've used. Unclip the two latches, push the hard shell open, pull out the ladder, put in the front spring poles and you're done.
I Kamper's products are more expensive, use lower-quality materials, and have terrible customer service (a common complaint from many that I know who own them and have problems). After everything I have heard or seen, I just don't think these are worth the money when compared to other brands like roof nest.
Keep Us posted , Thankyou and let us know when you are gonna install one of these on your , perfect to handle truck ruclips.net/video/bD3RAHdbExs/видео.html
What’s wrong with that? He has income from RUclips plus his own business and he just dropped how much on new truck and the previous 200 series for his wife? Don’t bring down a guy for being successful and spending money on things he loves and uses to escape the rat race instead of drugs and hookers.

This is my favorite part about the comments on my videos. I was thinking the physics of it would lend better if it were closer to my body - but what you're saying makes sense! Thanks for the feedback! Love learning new things.
Yep! Agreed. Layering is about transferring moisture from inner layers to the outer layers while preserving the loft.
I’m running a hard shell rooftop tent set up and I have been very pleased with it so far. The comfort and set up/break times are a lot better.
Just picked up my Skycamp 4x and I absolutely love it. Just camped at Lake Mead and will be camping with it at Half Moon/NorCal in a couple of weeks. Love the vids!
I would say the bottom flaps on the annex go on the outside so that rain run off stays outside of the annex
With four walls I’m disappointed that the annex doesn’t have an option for a floor. It would be so incredible given that it all extends from the tent opening.
Yeah if you've got a light on at night that annex is gonna turn into one big bug trap.
The annex should have a floor for that price. I'm glad i saw that before I purchased it. Thank you.
How come no one ever puts down a tarp first on the ground before setting up the annex?
Because this is what all the other bigger youtube channels have gone to also these things all come and go in waves depending which company is paying/giving gear to show off their stuff. This is all corporate “grass roots” marketing.

Jason, just experiment with cutting out sugar. No bread, rice, pasta, sugars from candy, chocolate, soda, etc. Try it and you should see a significant improvement with your arthritis. Sugar causes inflammation which will trigger the arthritis more.

iKamper gives away a matt or pad which prevents condensation for free. Ask your dealer to get one. Happy camping!

Just curious. You mention you got rid of your forerunner in another video. Do you have a video explaining why you got rid of it?
The DREAM TENT!
Hi Jason, just wondering how the RTT goes in the rain? I've had recent troubles with pooling and stretching the fabric rendering it useless.

How much on board room does the annex take up when stowing for travel? How about all of your sleeping gear? Do you use heating elements?
I wish the annex had a floor for more sleeping bags
Which racks are you using in the back of that Ram? I have a Ram 2500 and I’m looking for racks that will fit it with the backrack I have installed.

No

YES!!
Is there a floor for the annex as well? Like a zip-on, like Tepui, to keep the annex room dry?
There isn't but there really should be
I wanted to ask what air compressor do you use on your beast when off and about in your adventures?
Just installed a dual arb compressor

Can you take it off and put it on easier? How does it secure to the bed rack?
You said you use an exped mat inside the tent. Why is that? Is the tent mattress not good enough??
What rear bumper is that? I have a Wilco off-road tire gate, but I’d like my spare mounted a few inches lower

Too right. It was the very first thing I noticed.
How is it backwards? I don’t have one, but it looks correct to me. Top goes up, door to the side, isn’t that all?
It is backward aerodynamically- lower end should be to the front 😀.
