Chair 1 and Chair 6 also don't have safety bars. I think they left them without bars because beginners primarily don't use them. Beginners are the only ones who need safety bars, because they're learning how to ride a chairlift. The way Mt. Baker runs as a no-thrills local mountain, putting safety bars on all chairlifts is a low-priority item.
@@sorenjones true, I just don’t think it’s a good idea, a triple or double without a bar, fine, but a quad, if the lift stops suddenly some people in the middle of the chair who way less could get thrown off.., maybe not, but I think it would be a good thing to have on the chairs.
@@North_Cascade_Railfan There's no chance of someone falling off because of the lift stopping. Even an emergency stop won't pose a risk. The only way it could be dangerous is if a lift were to stop instantaneously, which lifts aren't destined to do in the first place. The only instance I've heard of someone nearly being thrown off was on a lift where a motor or brake that wasn't designed for the lift application was used, and an emergency stop caused the lift to come to a very sudden, instantaneous stop which sent chairs swinging. Also I don't see how a lift with larger chairs would be more dangerous for falling off. Just grab the backrest.
No, Mt. Baker is entirely a fixed-grip mountain. The only lifts truly long enough to warrant a detachable are Chair 6 and Chair 8. I don't see any lifts going detachable, as Mt. Baker doesn't want to draw in a lot of people.
@@sorenjones cool. we r probibly going there in a few weeks. u should chech out the video i make on it. i also went to stevens for my first time 2 weeks ago and they had some really cool lifts up there.
Question, are you able to get to chair 8 from white salmon base area? Taking chair 7 and riding to chair 8? Or do you need to take chair 5 up to get over to chair 8?
I feel like this lift should have a safety bar! A quad without one, dang.

@@sorenjones yeah that’s true, tbh it’s fine… inoften use a bar when there is one for extra saftey. But it’s not necessary. Your right.
That's a beautiful view at the top of the mountain. I've always loved the scenery at the top of each ski resort.
Tower 1 on this lift is crazy.

Chair 7 does reach Chair 8. Thankfully, you don't need to ride Chair 5, the lines there get pretty insane.
@@sorenjones much appreciated.

Hey Soren How many lifts are at baker?
8 chairs (arguably Chair 3 and Chair 4 are one lift though). I have a few more clips, but this is the last full ride.
