What a great follow-up! This is what our hobby is all about, trial and error. This kind of learning you can't get from buying tools only when you start to actually make tools do you understand what works and what doesn't. Excellent!
Thanks SC, I was bummed at first. On a whim I decided to change edge geometry. Ive been playing with it all night since shooting the video and seems to be holding up :)
@@GuntersGarage Now that’s a really cool idea! I’ve made soap, but never carved it. That’s a great way to learn how the knife is going to operate, and it will help get your grandson familiar with it 🙂
Hey everything comes with trial error and understanding & learning. And I see and hear a whole lot of understanding and learning gained and shared here 😉👍🏻 Awesome Thanks Gunter 👊🏻❤️🔥🙏🏻🤟🏻
The metallurgy behind the plane iron is really something. I didnt see half being hardened and the other not. I have a hardness file set but Im not real good with it yet. I think next time I'll go on amazon and buy a blank of steel so I know what it exactly it is and how to harden it.
Somehow this comment slipped past my radar 🫨 I am a little more active on IG. Its just a little quicker to toss up some pics and a description right now than a big ol youtube video. 😁

That’s how we learn, and that’s a good idea with the soap. Thanks for the update! God Bless!
Im actually excited to try soap carving myself. Might make nice little scented figures that can sit around like air fresheners, lol.

@Gunters Garage Good idea for sure. Always interesting to learn all the science behind something.
I have had fair luck with saw blades making carving knife and chisels
I almost went with a saw blade. I think when I make one for myself I'll try that.
Ok, I have caught up ….. but need to see more of you brother 😢
Guess I better straighten out my IG account huh 😉👍🏻
