Hello. I must say they are the cleanest purest sound I have ever heard from a speaker. they have no colouration at all. you do need a good amplifier to power them correctly. they are very heavy to move so after you place them don't expect to move them around without help from a friend or two.
+Michael Bauers Hi Michael I was very fortunate that these were a gift from a classical pianist friend many years ago. He bought the Quad electrostatics and just calmly asked me "you can have these old speakers if there any use to you" well you can imagine my reply :-) . I still use them often but they are incredibly heavy.
How about a video about how speakers work, how the produce sound and how crossover and woffers, tweeters and midrang and all that good stuff work together, sounds like that might make a good interesting video for the channel :)
On the modern speakers i.e. 2000s on. Wilson doesn't use "acoustic" foam. Their stuff is similar to neoprene or EPDM foam from Mcmaster Carr. Cuts easily with a utility knife and is much cheaper than wilson. You can get it with and without adhesive already on it. The grills that constantly warp made from their "x" material are made from phenolic resin. Don't waste your time trying to work that material. It's a pain and doesn't work as well as a good 3d print does these days. Just draw them in Fusion and print them on a 3d printer.
My "doris" as I call it is great but it gets itself boxed in in some places around the house and it will clean that spot for a long time before I have to go and place it back in the centre of the room.
+Shad Huron Hi Shad. unfortunately my bass units are starting to get brittle on the foam around the cone so will have to replace them one day. but to be honest I may just put them up for sale as the top puppys are fine but the bass units need tlc . I just do not use them often enough for them to take so much space up in my place.
+Shad Huron Mark, I want/would like you to make a video of how to replace the bass drivers on Watt Puppy's please. What all is involved like soldering, etc. It is well worth it for these high quality speakers from Wilson Audio Specialties! Mine are in excellent condition with exception of the surround material on the lower(Puppy) bass drivers. It would be very interesting for anyone wanting to replace their drivers on any make speaker.
Hi Shad. I have mine ready for selling but may get the foam surrounds fixed on the bass units first. If i have to take them apart I will do a video but if they sell as is then im sorry they will be gone.
+markusfuller OK, That would be great! My foam surrounds on the bass unts are what need doing and I thought to replace the complete bass woofer/driver. But, perhaps just doing the foam surrounds done(re-edged) would be best. Any suggestions?
Im not 100% sure but i think theres a company called wembley acoustics or wembley loudspeakers that actually replace the foams for you professionally for about £50 each. yet the foam kits themselves are about £100 a pair to do them yourself. Im not sure if I should just send them off to the professionals to do them for me.
yes just a habit i have had since a kid. trouble is Im neither left handed or right handed. I write with both depending which hand picks up the pen. so I often put 2 watches on without thinking really. :-)
Excellent video, they look brand new again. Get down Shepp !!
Where did you get the grill foam? Thank you.
There is a pair of these for sale locally. Are they as good as the reviews say?

Woah, weren't these speakers SERIOUS money to purchase, new?

I need to do this to mine. Where did you get the foam?
Hi Robin. I just searched for acoustic speaker foam on ebay and its available in many different sizes and thicknesses.

good Idea Kristian. I certainly think that could be a possible future video. Many Thanks from Markus
No problem Markus keep up with the great videos, because of you're channel I know want a oscilloscope :)
Hi Kristian. the Oscilloscope is the most important item in my workroom. without it I would not be able to do half the repairs.
What is your advice for a decent one for beginners
maybe a second hand analog one from ebay or there are a few cheaper though not too bad digital versions from Owon and Rigol.

my robotic cleaner is forgetful, and chooses one particular spot to vacuum again and again. I enjoy your efforts very much

Hey Mark,
