The C-Series is running its same early morning schedule all week from Monday to Thursday. I headed out again on Tuesday this time to film the southbound journey on the Joondalup Line from Whitfords to Perth (and then through to Canning Bridge to end the video where I started the proper filming yesterday). The train was again having issues with the doors at Perth, which is related to the train's computer system thinking it has undershot or overshot the platform (which today it actually did with the rear door still in the tunnel), and therefore refusing to open the doors. This caused a delay of over five minutes again today. The train also played some music through the speakers while this was happening at Perth, which was so weird! I point out several other anomalies along this journey with the announcements, doors, and train movement.

I think a solution to making the screens bigger would be to have a grab pole or a few directly under the screen similar to the hcmt and e class teams in melb to prevent people from hitting there heads as they won’t walk directly under it
Those LCDs look like they’re displaying a blue background, is that the backlight (like a really really cheap display) or is it actually showing blue?
Just showing blue I guess...
i'm surprised how many issues there are with the C series. I didn't realise the doors had issues as well. well i guess it's only at Perth so i guess that makes it a bit better
Harry told me you went yesterday. I’m going tomorrow to catch the southbound service
Hmmm I’m gonna board at canning bridge so you might be on my train
I took it all days Monday - Wednesday but now I probably won't go again.
Random question but would you know how the Transperth trains terminate? (I don’t know trains too well)
What do you mean "how" they terminate??
@@TransportofPerth As I was wondering if it’s just turn around or there is more to it.
@@Twirlinggamer At actual end of the line stations they just go back the other way but at others there are sidings or crossovers to switch to the other platform.
@@TransportofPerth Oh thank you! I was wondering that.
I find it pretty nostalgic about the c series doors opening sound
Still yet to know if it’s running in the evening?
It is not. Until at least Friday no extra runs except this morning one.
28:57 sounds like a fire alarm XD
I really want to ride this train but it's 7am is too early for me haha.
Plus it's going in the opposite direction of where I want to go
Well it goes both ways but the other way is like 5AM-6AM.
When it plays music, it feels very Japanese
Inspired by Japan I guess
how much longer will this service run for and where can I see when it runs?
Until Thursday inclusive it will do the exact same shift. Times are in the description of the Part 1 video.
Which is what I literally put in the description and on Discord...
@@TransportofPerth Not in the server boutta join tho
Where do you get running times for the C-series from?
Railcar allocation by looking at the abnormal times in between the scheduled trips (or just looking at the app and finding the Whitfords terminating trips on weekends).
Will these trains ever come to the Armadale/Thornlie lines? If so, when?
No unless they run the Mandurah Stadium express when the Thornlie-Cockburn Link opens. Otherwise it will be well over a decade before that happens.
@@TransportofPerth noooo Im soo sad!
@@TrainspottedatperthThey will be used primarily on the Mandurah and Joondalup Lines. Other lines are not yet completely 6 car compatible due to platform lengths :/
29:47 Why didnt the doors open up again when the man jumped through? Shouldnt that be some sort of safety feature?
If you don't touch the doors nothing happens. That's how it is on the As and Bs too.
I remember the C series showcase at Yagan Square with the display showing a picture of Perth's skyline, along with the station it's at (which was Perth) and a nicer UI of which side of the car the door will open. I don't know why it got so simplified here. I also don't think space is an issue, considering the display size seems to look the same as the mock up.
the current pid on the trains probably aren’t the final thing and might change later i hope
@@sxlami Hopefully so. If that's all they want to show then it'd be better to keep the dot matrix display.
They did reduce the size a bit because people were bumping their head I was told. But yeah I think it looks so bad now.
Exactly, dot matrix is fine for that, no need to waste money on 18 double-sided screens.
@@TransportofPerth I have not been on the C series yet so can't really say for sure. Comparing your video to that of the mock up's, they may have only reduced the size of the housing, while keeping the display size the same. But then it's just speculation from my part.
Question: How do you find out what route and time it'll be on?
It runs as an unscheduled service so you just have to look for weird trips which aren't in the timetable on Railcar Allocation or on the app. (For example a random 7 minute frequency instead of the usual 15).
@@TransportofPerth Thank you
How do you know? When the c series comes
It's on the exact same schedule every day and we've written up the timetable for it. Check out the description of the Part 1 video for the times.
is it doing a service tomorrow? I hope to be there
Yes on the same schedule.
@@TransportofPerth okay, what station do you recommend i should be at? I will try and make it
@@TheRetroReboot Whitfords to experience full journey to Mandurah but whatever suits you considering it's so early.
@@TransportofPerth okay, i doubt i will be able to convince my parents to let me go, but i will try!
2:26 I say something very funny to mark!! 😂😂
how long would you think they will do this until a implement them to the schedule?
Until all the drivers are trained which will be over a month...
@@TransportofPerthIt feels so dumb advertising and announcing their introduction to service, only to not even been seen throughout the day, nor being prepared at all.
When will the whole line be C Series and no b series?
I think around 2029
Yes 2029
@@TransportofPerth So we will see train lines with mixes of trains for a bit 🙂
Yeah! It's a great period of time right now. Especially since all three types occasionally will operate on the Joondalup and Mandurah Lines.
That door opening so sounds like scr
The scr sounds are not original, they are from Sydney Metro.
Because it is the class 345...
While I'm disappointed that the door buttons don't work like the A and B (being able to press the door buttons like on a lift should be implemented everywhere), I'm relieved that the voiceovers are the same - I couldn't imagine a Perth train without hearing *Ding* Doors Closing *Ding*.
I'm assuming the music is played to discourage "antisocial behaviour"
They are working on fixing the doors eventually so you can press it earlier!
18:20 what happened to the screen went back a bit the sound before the announcement sounds like an airplane
That's when the announcement refreshes as it says it again for arrival to the station. The same would happen on the B-Series if the text was still scrolling when arriving but it rarely does as on the Bs it only scrolls three times before disappearing, but you can still sometimes notice it.
@@TransportofPerth oh okay
@@TransportofPerth it also seems to scroll until the last bit and then it says next station
Why is there Music on the Train
I don't know but it's really cool!
@@TransportofPerth The "music" is the on-hold tone for the Emergency Help Point intercom. You can see the passenger who is trying to get out, push it at 28.42.
Regarding the 2 announcements for Elizabeth Quay, I think it is the normal announcement when departing the previous station (Perth UG) and then the normal announcement when arriving at the next. Because the stations are so close they play very close together. 😀
Oh that's weird that the on-hold sound is like that and plays through the whole train? Or maybe just that carriage. Yeah makes sense they would push it at Perth if they can't get out or they think it's the door open button since it's on the side.
I know that's why there's two announcements but on the B-series it is programmed to only say it once in between Perth and Elizabeth Quay (the only exception to saying it twice everywhere else), so this doesn't happen.
@@TransportofPerth I believe the music plays only at the door where the button was pressed. Good observation about the B's being programmed to only say it once!
@@thebobster9848 i guess the passenger didn't know where the button was and was on the wrong side
I was on that train
the lift opens and closes repeatedly 1:38
Lol I did not realise that. Why was it doing that!?
@@TransportofPerth oh wow
@@TransportofPerth maybe the sensor was being blocked by something or a malfunction idk just a guess
Seems like the new trains are a flop if it doesn't even go in service all day.
No they are just still training all the Mandurah drivers so they can't yet. It will be out all day Saturday though.
Perhaps they've kept it on a special timetable in case of teething issues? A lot easier to simply stow it and forget about the whole thing in the event of some mechanical drama than having to organise a change of train, and deal with the cascading effects on driver hours.
b series looks better
