    Talking about Prince is talking about one of the greatest artists in 20th/21st century. Europe and the world knows names like Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis,
    Jesse Johnson, Sonny T. and so many more because of PRINCE. We in Europe would not even know where Minneapolis is without Prince. We know about the LINN drum machine because of Prince. Most musicians around him were / are very talented, but he was a genius and working much harder on his career than all other musicians together. How many songs did he write not counting those in the vault? I grew up with guitarists like Santana, Hendrix, Clapton, Zappa, Jimmy Page, but when you saw and heard him play the guitar on Purple Rain and Let´s go crazy the first time, it was pretty clear that he also was one of the best guitarists ever and whatever instrument he played, he played it in an unique and awesome way. One stage he had more joy and power than 10 marathon runners.

    Prince's former hair stylist before Kim Berry has said that Prince wanted to dye his hair blond for a different look for the cover of Around the World in a Day but that his hair reacted badly to the bleach and broke off. The stylist had to cut it short but Prince hated the style and thought it made him look like The Hulk. At that time Prince had to go back to do some re-shoots for the Purple Rain movie and so had to wear a wig to re-create his hairstyle in the film. Prince laughed at the wig when watching himself in the rushes of the film. This Is probably where the story comes from. Prince always had a good head of hair as we can see in all the styles he wore since. You can clearly see his real scalp in lots of photos and concert footage!

    In regards to the barn scene in purple rain, one of my film professors at vassar college was a man by the name of Ken Robinson. He was the editor and co director of purple rain. He told me that they shot a love scene with prince and appalonia and it didn’t work at all.
    She was very aggressive and prince basically looked scared in the footage.
    The point is that they hadn’t been intimate before that scene was shot and they didn’t have the right vibe or chemistry.
    Ken said they talked to prince and basically said you two need some alone time off camera and later on we can try and shoot the scene again.
    Ken basically told me that they hooked up and when it came time to reshoot that scene it was a million times better and had the right chemistry.
    So I guess Jesse was right when he said it was “real”.

    Prince had a very bad reaction to dyeing his hair. He was shooting for blonde hair but as Mandy. Watts states - he had a very bad reaction. The only way we can see evidence of this is the album cover for Around The World in A Day. There is an image of a person wearing the Prince cloud outfit which is suppose to be Prince - the hair is short and blonde. As for the weave/wig/hair piece. For most of his career - Prince was blessed with a great deal of hair. But with time and age - hair did thin with a receding hairline which favored one side. Losing hair and being a celebrity is the bane of ANY star. Look at David Lee Roth. If Prince didn't try and cover his hair. People would be saying "Dude why don't you fix that. You have all that money and you walk around like that?"

This was right around the mid 80s, maybe an interview on the radio, print, I forget where what and how but I did not forget that advice bit. Also, 7 Minutes Mo'Quake, you can hear Prince sample 'Crazay' the Sly woo-ing, now add that to Shockadelica, and you can see Prince's inside jabs at Jesse. The slap scene in Purple Rain was real!! In the initial movie previews that aired on TV there was a quick cut where someone (maybe Morris or Jellybean) either grabbed or pushed Prince and Prince popped the shit out of him. Now, if you check the When Doves Cry scene in the movie not the video, the movie, Prince was on his motorcycle outside the warehouse where The Time was rehearsing A6. So I guess the scene was, Prince was supposed to confront Morris and Apollonia in the warehouse and Prince and Morris or whoever it was bucked up on each other.

    • @carolbrooks9088
      @carolbrooks9088 4 года назад +5

      When I first saw Purple Rain the week it premiered, the scene in the warehouse was in the movie. Prince came into to place hot under the collar and confronted Morris, Jelleybean came at Prince and Prince jumped UP and hit him so quick it surprised me, they then dragged Prince kicking and fighting and threw him out. He got on his bike and roared off. The next time I saw the movie, that scene was gone, only a bit of it in the trailer. I looked for it cuz it was so amazing how Prince jumped up so quick on Jellybean given the difference in their heights and I wanted to see that again, but I understand after the previews that scene was cut.

    Awe, love Prince. I understand the intense pressure he was under, needing to be his gorgeous self 24-7. He was a musician first, but in the showbiz rat race, looks are bonus points. I appreciate hearing the human side of Prince, and how others viewed him. Sad Prince isn’t around to comment and explain his side, but I have this feeling Prince would’ve taken the 5th lol.

    • @rockssolid7471
      @rockssolid7471 6 лет назад

      Agreed, his communications (music, movies, interviews) are open to interpretation. For example, he apparently told everyone he didn't know who the writer Dorothy Parker was, but liked the sound of the name for his song... yet Dorothy Parker writes in "Ballade of Unfortunate Mammals", "Prince, a precept I'd leave for you, coined in Eden, existing yet: skirt the parlor, and shun the zoo- women and elephants never forget. " She also addresses 'prince' in a couple of her other 'ballades'; and was a hell of a wit too.

    • @sunnypie2
      @sunnypie2 6 лет назад +3

      Cristil lin That’s awesome info. Yet, I think Prince says a lot of conflicting things purposely. His mystique was well crafted. I think he wanted people to focus on the music.

    • @rockssolid7471
      @rockssolid7471 6 лет назад +2

      True, and in focusing on Prince's music, it is worthy to note the inclusion of the Ballad of Dorothy Parker in his 'Sign of the Times'. Ironically, Dorothy's final resting place is in Baltimore, at the headquarters for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). Her epitaph reads:
      "Here lie the ashes of Dorothy Parker (1893-1967). Humorist, writer, critic, defender of human and civil rights. For her epitaph she suggested “Excuse My Dust”. This memorial garden is dedicated to her noble spirit which celebrated the oneness of humankind, and to the bonds of everlasting friendship between black and Jewish people."

    Again, I will say this: P might have been rude and arrogant sometimes, but why do so many people who said this [Mayte, Morris Day, Jimmy and Terry etc.] say they miss him? Why do people say if you don't believe every bad story about him [not just that he was a jerk, but some people who speak of him like he was the devil himself], then you must be one of those people who thinks he never did wrong? And I think it's hypocritical of some people who spoke of him on online message boards with such venom to then turn around and cry that they miss him. I'm not saying people who were critical of him can't be sad, but I meant the ones who talked about him like he could never do anything right.

    Prince should have held back some of the music. But, he didn't. Maybe we benefitted ,and maybe we didn't. It was an influx of work after he had a major hit. D'angelo didn't want to be the next big thing. Maybe he is not secure about his direction. Creating wasn't the problem. You can't try to be a Prince. Maybe some of them saw what he was doing as careless. Lauren Hill didn't like the complications of the business. She didn't want pressure to create for the machine. She is now ready to do a reunion tour with her group the Fugees. Now it's time. D'angelo's work is all that. I like the pace that he works. It's just enough. He doesn't want to saturate the market. Michael Jackson was the same way. Everything has its period. We all can't be Prince. I say this with respect to your opinion. Very insightful episode. Thanks for sharing.

Prince and his Purple Rain brought an unforgettable spotlight to Minneapolis where he chose to pursue stardom (?!) and 'create a scene', showcasing and promoting not only himself but also his people. Prince set up his shop, recorded groundbreaking albums in a local warehouse (Susan Rogers has given amazing talks about this), opened Paisley to the community for concerts, and stayed to his death. He made mistakes like all humans, but unlike most, provided a lifetime's worth of amazing music and memories for his fams.

      Prince was supremely talented no doubt but Prince did not treat these dudes right at all. He basically paid them nothing as The Time because The Time made more money backing up Vanity 6 than what Prince was paying them.
      On the tours they did, Prince would put The Time in rundown motels while he posted up in 4 and 5 star hotels so he didn't treat them right at all. When Prince fired Jam and Lewis, that was the best thing that happened to them because look at how their careers went after The Time.
      And Prince was jealous of Jam and Lewis because of their phenomenal success as writers and producers because Prince had made comments that Jam and Lewis would never be heard from again when he fired them from The Time which we all know didn't go the way Prince predicted it.

      Yeah 2010Gullwing is definitely correct although there was a scene with Morris taking Apollonia away from The Kid's house which is in the original script as is the punch scene you're thinking of. A few of the missing scenes can also be seen in the "Let's Go Crazy" music video. @@KKMDStyle Im saying as band members they all flourished without Prince..So you can't diminish them as musicians or their accomplishments in the music Bec the Group which prince had a strangle hold on so to that point I agree with you but that was more prince doing than theirs

    Wow a weave. i could believe it his hair was super long for many years. I was always wondering his hair must be crazy healthy but perming it does destroy it. i got a perm back in 1985 wanted dope like Morris day's cut but my dude didnt cut my hair short enough it came out like a hustler perm too big! So i washed it out n combed it out it laid over my eye real smooth then put lil curl activator it looked just like prince hair in Purple Rain. Fresh! And yes i did this painting of Prince. "lil Prince Charles" was my name back in 80's.Ha!Ha!
