I am listening from northern Ontario so we don't have the same issues here but I am looking after a house where my friends went down to Nashville and Chattanooga where they will meet these issues. Thanks for this coverage, very important considerations for all of us.

The problem is much much deeper than what we superficially call racism, and all the buzz words that center around the sociology of relationships. The deep, unrelenting problem is codependency -- among Hispanic, Asian, East Indian, Native American, European, African, and on and on. Every culture, every country, every community, is struggling with mental, emotional and spiritual health. Codependency is the struggle to connect with self, to accept self, to have compassion for self -- in other words, the struggle with self-love. Instead of (self-)love, there is toxic fear, shame, guilt and judgment based on a false narrative of unworthiness, meaninglessness, and the belief that one is not enough. These false narratives are often learned or perceived through direct or indirect communication with caregivers when we are young. Most of us grow up in a codependent environment. Our caregivers silenced and controlled us with fear, shame, guilt and judgment in order to survive each day and get life done as efficiently as possible. There is no one to blame; there is only an urgency for each of us to heal our wounds and begin the journey back to the self, and the journey back begins with compassionate education -- love.
