From the beginning, I learned 2:3 by around 1 year (real easy for me) and 4:3 in around 6 years 😅

me too! i have adhd and did this exact rythm on my table and annoyed my classmates, back when i was in school. i didn't noticed that i would do it until someone would say something to me.

A beautiful brazilian song that plays with this groove is a song called Baby, sung by Gal Costa and on the amazing 1968 (if I'm not mistaken) album called Tropicália. I think there are other versions of this song that don't really use the polyrhythm but that one does, and brilliantly! And Gal's voice is also just heavenly...
To put it simply its like a conversation. 3 is saying a word and 4 is replying with another word.
I don't play drums, or really any instrument for that matter, but it's just crazy to me how a simple polyrhythm like this can groove so hard.
As a complete beginner at 28, God damn this stuff is hard lmao
my brain just cant do it.. It gets confused and I would end up having the same beat on both hands

Just tap along to some of your favorite songs, eventually rhythm will become ingrained into your brain
"Pass, the gosh-darn butter" helped me a lot
This is the method I use:
Step 1: compound the 2 rhythms and tap it on one finger (tap taptap tap taptap)
Step 2: Start alternating that rhythm between 2 fingers (don't add the overlapping beat yet)
And step 3: Now add the overlapping beat and you should have it down!
For smaller ratios like this it’s helpful to subdivide the beat into 12 parts, and write down when the 3 and rhythm occurs. Kinda like
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12
1 2 3 4 (4 rhythm)
1 2 3 (3 rhythm)
Then start really slow counting in your head, before cranking up the speed when you feel the rhythm of it better.
I was listening to Snowbound by The Rippingtons and then when I realized it was 4:3 it got me even more excited. Polyrhythms are so fun!

I learned this polyrhythm in like 2 minutes. It sounds like "Pass the goddamn butter." Try saying that in your head or out loud when he's doing both hands in the video, and you'll get it.
For me it sounds like a groovy version of the “one, nothing wrong with me” vocal section in bodies
Now, I can learn Fantasie Impromptu.
Best way to learn it is to remember that one hand is always playing an additional beat so mathematically, after tapping with both hands first, the hand that does more beats (let's say the left one) starts tapping and then you just go right left right left and you've done it. After that start all over again.
P.S. after writing this I think i could've worded it better
that does work, however you still need the right timing for a proper polyrhythm thingy as far as i know

The best way to learn ANY polyrhythm is do very tiny small pair grouping. THis it jus works. Also dont try to technical think of it as one is doin 1 2 3 and the is doin 1 2 3 4 - Listen and absorb the WHOLE rhythm as a WHOLE and then ul figure out how to make it happen

The best way to learn is to listen to music that uses this. I highly recommend Tamil kuthu bears. You'll pick up the rhythm in no time.
I used to tap this all the time in elementary school... Nobody taught me. Or who knows, maybe I picked it up from a song I heard at some point.

Nice, easier than the 5 over 4 but still relatively challenging, it makes me wonder what a polyrhythm is exactly, maybe all beats are polyrhthmic to some extent because your alway's going around and about the 1 2 3 4 beats
a polyrhythm is two or more even notes happening at the same time over a certain span of beats.

I know it’s sometimes a little confusing. But this has nothing to do with time signature… it a polyrhythm exercise… and like any rhythm it can be used over any time signature.

This is NOT polyrhythm. Both has to have 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures
