  • This week we'll be comparing the RCA Varacoustic side by side with the RCA 77-DX! These ribbon microphones share the same ribbon motors, however have different bodies, acoustic labyrinths, and transformers. As these microphones are often compared with each other with little info or samples, I hope this video can be a resource for comparing their differences! RCA made same of the highest quality engineered ribbon microphones back in the 1950's and 60's - these two microphones are prime examples.     Hey! Noticed the Varacoustic was in setting 2 and not V - any particular reason why?

    The 77dx has more meat in it to me. Meaningful difference.

    Which polar pattern do you have the 77 in? They all sound pretty different on my 77s!

      I almost always use the bi-directional setting! I’d rather use it and roll-off the bass if the proximity effect is too high
