  • "The Knot of the Three Words. Here is where the First Miracle took place. One devout and tormented youngster asked the High Will of punishment."
    In the sixth of my Blasphemous Lore videos we examine the lore and implication of the 'High Will' and how this differs from the Grievous Miracle.
    What is the High Will? How does it differ from the Miracle? Why does it sometimes assist us?
    All these questions and more will be answered!

    If you're familiar with the Berserk franchise, there's a similar concept in that canon. There is the Idea of Evil that exists as a sort of intangible god and is made from the collective desires of mankind, and then there is the God Hand, who carry out the will of the Idea in the mortal plane and are twisted reflections of their once mortal selves.

      yes exactly what i thought and i think the miracles are a phenomenon of some random apostles that ask the godhand for help along the way, but the high will invovled in choosing couple of chossen apostles that are important in the flow of cassuality like Zodd, the egg of the perfect world and gensihka. So the high will doesnt concern much with couple of miracles along the way as long as the flow of fate still moving in the correct line

    One character that makes me curious about the agency of the High Wills is Jocinero, the Celestial Child. According to his leyend, he was born by the Blessing of the High Wills through the torment of a brave bull and the more. And more puzzling, "from himself". So when I heard that I always thought Jocinero was a different being than the transformed sinners of CVSTODIA. He is not a sinner, for he was born through a miraculous pain, the pain of a Bull. He is a celestial being. But I cannot think what role (in lore) his brothers play in the Miracle's plans. His "holy brethren". So they should be innately divine beings. Their infant appearance implies sinless innocence. Why are they imprisoned in decorated cages across the land? Is this the Miracle's doing? How associated is Jocinero to the Penitent's quest? And even more importantly, Jocinero is not even from the physical world, but from the dream of the Canvas. There is a lot to question about his existence.

    I get the idea of the Miracle being something spawned by the High Will during the First Miracle event but I still see the intentions of the two being one and the same. The Miracle is still behind the bulk of the aid given to the Penitent One so someone like Soledad aiding us through the High Will doesn't seem any different.

    I go with the explanation that the High Will is like God. All powerful, merciful, and his blessings take many forms and acts through many agents and people. The Father is like Jesus who, though his power, left the Holy Ghost to take his place in assisting the faithful. The Miracle is that Holy Ghost. Unlike Jesus, the Father's entire existence was wholly human and his power was creating the concept of "Pain for Sin" which the Miracle operates on. You can tell that the High Will and the Miracle operate differently and hold different things in value. Especially when it came to the Amanecidas and the Father. The High Will probably sought to reward the young man for the pain he took in to alleviate sin and so basically gave him a woman who it split into a harem that loved him completely. The Miracle grew jealous of this reward and locked them away giving the Father more pain to exchange for more sin to further itself. While the High Will and the Miracle have the same end goal of humanity's salvation, the Miracle is the more cruel and punishing of the two while the High Will rewards the devout for the pain they endure and grant actual power to its agents.
    In a way the Miracle occupies both the position of Holy Ghost and the Devil. After all, to many they would rather stay extremely devoted than to have to pray for their punishment of their sin. A prayer to the Miracle which by eye witness accounts, is very painful. This is probably why the Miracle also got the prefixes of "The Cruel" and "The Grievous." Whatever it touches, it condemns. No one wants to have to pray for their punishment so it works as a Devil to keep younglings and believers in line.

    The vista from the Archcathedral rooftops/Crisanta's fight, is that supposed to be some unnamed township within the walls of the Mother of Mothers, or is that the Wasteland of Buried Churhces, which is supposed to surround the walls? You get a pretty good impression of Cvstodia's geography from the map and level layout, but that view is still a little fuzzy to me.

    Ever since I delved into the lore of Blasphemous, I couldn't stop myself from thinking of The High Will, The Miracle and The Penitent One in the same way I think of The Axiom, YHWH and The Messiahs from SMT. In SMT, the Axiom is the originating force that brought about the multiverse. For each universe in the multiverse, a "creator" deity, a proxy for the Axiom, was created and placed in each of them. A lot of these take the name of YHWH (if not all) and eventually started to act against the "will" of The Axiom, most of the time without even realizing it, thinking themselves to be doing what they were created for. When this occurs, the Axiom manifests its will on the mortal plane in the form of a Messiah, a mortal with the potential to kill gods, capable of defeating even a deranged proxy of The Axiom, as The Messiah itself is also a proxy, though with the free will that characterizes mortals. To me, it seems plausible that a similar situation plagues the world of Blasphemous, in which The Grievous Miracle has deviated from the High Wills, probably even gotten a mind of its own, so the High Will send The Penitent One to end the Grievous Miracle.

    • @rasul01
      @rasul01 Год назад +1

      If the high Will's sent The Penitent One to kill the miracle, why did The Penitent One end up killing the High Wills instead?
      Also, your description of SMT, as well as this video explaining the Blasphemous lore, sounds like it is heavily inspired by Christian Gnosticism: one of the most fascinating and underrated religions/mythologies that exists. If you haven't heard of Gnosticism, you really should do research on it.

      @ohamatchhams Год назад

      @@rasul01 Because The High Wills, just like the Axiom in SMT, are byproduct of something greater and beyond tangibility (hence High Wills can be killed by it's own venom)
      Both are not Monad of "Gnosticism", they're acting in more credence with Plotinus' Neoplatonism idea of Monad in his Enneads (and Plotinus for being founder of Neoplatonism, criticises The Gnostics as much as Church Fathers akin to Irenaeus, although both sides criticises "Gnosticism" for opposite reasons since Neoplatonism confirms polytheism or monolatry and henotheism in some form while Christianity perpetuates the idea of trinity into monotheism)
      Both Monad of Neoplatonism and Nicene Christianity idea of God are conformist to how The World came into being, it's working operations and duty functions in positive ways, albeit both have slews of dozens if not thousands of differences afterwards

    I don't see the miracle as enjoying people suffer, I think it's the people that pray to the Miracle that think they must suffer in order to expiate their guilt. The miracle simply answers their prayers. As the prayers are fulfilled people watch the miracle take this form and believe that the only way towards redemption is through suffering. It's a self fulfilling prophecy. The more people think ask for the miracle to punish them, the more people think punishment is the road to salvation.

    With the DLC it makes me wonder if the Miracle originally was using PO to clean up Escobar's mistakes but then realized either by chance or by design the PO could turn people away from it thus awakened Laudes. Laudes and the agents though working for the High Will are helping the PO because perhaps the HW cannot nullify the Miracle? Laudes being a failsafe reset button if the PO fails.

The Miracle is probably not even an entity, but unfathomable power. The High Wills where only controling some aspects of Miracle, but the ones they didn't came to later bite them in the ass. This all seems like a metaphor for religion as institution vs earnest faith. Twisted One's prayers came from a place of a true faith, but church and the High Wills used that faith and faith of others as a means of control.

    The high will might also be some sort of deterministic side of the universe. The high will is sort of like the inevitable future that will happen, and the miracle acts against it
    existence can sometimes be very weird but that is the High Will. Whenever it is some strange unexplained happenstance, that is "The High Will". "The Grievous Miracle" is one particular aspect of the High Will but perhaps an aspect which has, through a corrupted sense of valor and beauty it has utterly gone rogue. The rest of the High Will is just other aspects of the High Will - the deterministic Ur-God universal being, bringing the grievous miracle back under control for another cycle of reality.
    This cycle caused so much greed and hunger and strife that it overflowed, and became corrupt to the point where the devoted became either slathering monsters, or an order of priests dedicated to maintaining the status quo at all costs. But really, against their will and through the High Will, the Penitent One in silence makes his way through the trials. Deogracias - a giant of a man, probably capable of all of the physical tasks required, but bound by his penitence to only give direction, guiding through divine providence and the High Will, the Penitent one to the Cradle of Affliction.
    Yes, the writing in this game is very fucking good. But it's all subtext. Absolutely amazing.

    I always wondered if the high will was once just something the churches made up to get the people to be under their thumb, and then eventually thanks to so many believing in it, it came to become aware of all the nonsense of the church. And the straw that broke the camel's back was the prayer of the twisted one. As he truly believed the lies of the church that he had to suffer. When the miracle happened and the church began to profit off of his suffering the high will began to go haywire on everyone.

    :O
    I m still struggling to understand what is the sin and the guilty...
    Is probably what that guilty be a perception or just a methapysical thing?
    Because we listen about of history of devotion but never about the history of the sinners.
    And why the game is blasphemous?

      Could be a human anxiety and fear of never being able to be perfect, and perfection has the form of the High Wills (prior to the Miracle's collective conception through the Twisted). We know there is history prior to the arrival of the Twisted. There are hints, history treated now as heresy and locked in the Library of Forgotten Words. Pain is the only means to find comfort, for it is a punishment for our human imperfections. It's contradictory, but that is how Catholicism in our world seems to paint the idea of sin and guilt. It is natural, yet it should be avoided and punished. It always bothered me about religion that they tell you that sin is both natural to our flesh yet something that most be avoided at all cost. Ideally, one lives in peace with our sinful selves. But here it seems that is a constant struggle, and its only solution is painful punishment. The Twisted rejoiced delightfully in his painful twisting. So there is a relation between Sin, Guilt and Pain. Maybe a sequence, cyclical.
