The Positive and Negative Energy Planes are the outer most planes on the cosmology. The "ocean between the islands" as you called is the Astral Plane (AKA Astral Sea) 😉

I am guessing you probably already heard this, but the Positive Energy Plane is one of two elemental plane representing "Positive Energy" and "Negative Energy" respectively, an older DnD concept to explain both how things like healing spells and undead work, and why they are inherently antithetical to each other. Other than being said to be the source of all Negative and Positive Energy, as well as the origins of the quasi-elemental planes, there wasn't much too them, so 5e moved them from being near the elemental planes, to being outside the multiverse, being "above" and "below" all the other planes and allowing all other Planes to exist and function.

One of my favorite dragons.. I added one to a ‘newbee (lvl 1-3) campaign..
Pulled the old lore that they sometimes have a white dragon wyrmling as a pet..
It made an interesting transition from my campaign, into Tyranny of Dragons.
Interesting discussion they had..

A departure from lore.
The single Crystal dragon in my game is quite pessimistic. Coming from the positive plane of existence has ruined their perception of reality.
To them, everything is dirty, improper and imperfect.
