I don't know if it was intentional, but that feels like a burn on that dude. (Correctly) assuming he'd only wanna eat Mickie Dees as someone on the more dumbass side of American.
EXACTLY I got so fucking angry when he changed what he actually said, the guy is trying to give direction to the driver of where you want to go in the first place, why are you mocking him when he is trying to help you.
The minimum cost of a rickshaw trip is 35 rupees. How could you literally want to pay poor people less than minimum wage????? Bet he has no problem dropping a 40 dollar tip in the US.
Eh depends, in the city it's 35-50, in the outskirts it's 10, supply and demand but yeah...... TRYNA BARGAIN DOWN 35 IS CRAZY, EVEN I WOULD ACCEPT THAT DESPITE BEING LOWER MIDDLE CLASS
@@RyuKyu.77 I think there's been a new rule that you have to pay a minimum of 35rs, but that's in metropolitan cities like Bangalore and Mangalore (this is just what I've seen, not sure though)
He has no problem spending 10$ on a shit meal at McDonald’s laced with carcinogens. The name of his channel is not a coincidence. He probably named it subconsciously. It’s like a freudian slip
Just so everyone knows, none of the auto drivers overcharged this guy. Paying 100 rupees for a short ride in big cities is totally normal, and honestly, it’s a good deal. Even locals pay this price 😭😭 thinking you can get a ride for 20 rupees is just….😶
Another thing, about his closing claims. Hes compairing the wrong groups. The people he's thinking of as americans in a british colony were british people who moved here. The comparable group would be indigenous americans, who were colonized and shit DID go really bad for them and still is really bad for them today.
yess!! I couldn't stop thinking about that and it was honestly mindboggling to listen to the travel vlogger talk so much about the US colonies and completely ignore the Native peoples and their experiences of colonization and how much it still impacts them today. To be honest though I'm not exactly surprised that he isn't smart enough to connect those dots, people like him have such a limited understanding of the world and become so assured in it that they refuse to actually learn about things with an open mind or have their perspective challenged
The Native people are absolutely nothing , South american natives actually could build civilizations whilst north americans coudn't They coudn't even read or write Keep in mind many different cultures created their own writing systems I'm talking about writing not symbols , North americans indians coudn't do any of that other then burn eachother alive , and Cannibalism was even common in certain tribes. North america woudn't develop at all if not for european colonization absolutely nothing. And not a single person can disprove what I said make sure to research before going loose with your ignorance.

The West and Turkey have amplified their dehumanizing stereotypes against South Asians, examples being: street sh*tters, scammers, savages, filthy, r@pists, etc. Now, they are adding a new stereotype“zoophilia “. I am pretty sure you have seen this on social media where trolls take articles about animals r@ped in India and post it. The West has been dehumanizing South Asians for over a century. Also, they portray India as anti-Muslim . I don’t think we face discrimination because of skin color as many Italians, Greeks, Persians, and Hispanics have tan skin, but face far less discrimination. These stereotypes also affect other South Asians. It’s about image.

My baby sister (like 8 months old) was listening to the video by accident and ended up saying her first word (Sort of), the most clear word I've ever heard her say. "India"
Whenever I've gone overseas (haven't been to India yet unfortunately) as an Australian, I know my dollar goes so much further so I usually end up paying whatever price I would have paid for the same service, in Australia. Need a cab, nah it's not $4, that's $30. If I don't think these prices are unreasonable when I have the ability to pay them at home, then why on earth would I devalue the labor of someone doing the same work, just because they happen to live in a different country? If I have the means, I'm paying the price the service is WORTH. It's a holiday not a business trip. I'm not there to maximize my profits, or my ROI. I'm there to relax and immerse myself in a different experience and culture.
I mean absolutely, but with an added horror; there are a lot of people who genuinely find it comedic and appealing to just be bigoted and cruel to strangers and marginalised people. Like, there are people who get off on being openly repulsive, and even sometimes straight up traumatic to others on main. Hopefully, it catches up to them one day, such as with their employers one day when the trend is over.

I paid 27 rupees one way as a courtesy deal with the rickshaw driver who drove me to work down the road every morning. That was 12 years ago!!! This man is infuriating!
@portaldolphin13 I disagree. It's fine to lower your average fluency level to not confuse someone else, but intentionally speaking WRONG English is just more confusing for the other party - and in this case it's absolutely fueled by racism.
It's crazy how some of the people there sound like they are genuinely happy to be able to speak to a foreigner who might have interesting things to say from a land they will never know or travel to. Like they sound so happy to say hi and don't even know English well enough to know they are making grammatical mistakes and this guy is making fun of them essentially behind their backs to an audience of people who want to hate strangers they will never meet.
They are mostly older people in their 40s or so, and they have never attended school in their entire lives. This work is all they know. They are curious to see and talk to a foreigner. People in the middle and upper classes are not like that; they are more reserved. While they are friendly too, they typically won’t start a conversation unless spoken to, like most people in any country. Unfortunately, many poor people show interest when they see a foreigner, and people like him often feel superior and make fun of them. You’ll notice that he never talks to anyone who isn’t a lower-class worker.
@ you both are on point, he sees people that are not like him financially as evil, he doesn't try to think of other POVs and why when people are nice to him, he thinks he needs to run away (and start hate vlogging). as someone studying comparative politics, the comparison between the colonies of the U.S. and India is absurd. as colonies, they were structured entirely differently. India was primarily used as a source of income, unlike the U.S., which was seen as a place for british citizens to live. India was entirely “given” to one company for profit. they eventually became a crown colony but were still treated as subhuman. the british empire institutionalized discrimination and poverty, drained India of their natural resources, and set their economy up for failure before it even begun. they over-taxed the U.S. they are not the same.
I think you're forgetting one major point, almost none of the original inhabitants survived colonisation. Sure America might not look as bad as India today, but that's only because they're all dead..
Like it was the most evil genocide in recorded history, 56 million innocent people just wiped from the face of the world and you're all like "well it's not as bad as what they did in India".. like what the fuck kind of whitewashing of the horrors than happened in the USA is this?

I’ve been to India three times with my family. There’s a lot of things I hated: how my Indian friend shared that it’s so hard to find a job to feed her family. How many people have to wake up so early to go fish and sell the fish in the heat. How many workers at the hotel we stayed at had to deal with people just like that guy. And how happy they were when we brought some Belarusian gifts for them (we stayed at the same hotel all three times and made friends with the staff). How a country with such an incredible history is struggling so much and how instead of helping it other countries are making fun of it. It’s heartbroken. I had the most amazing food India. I had the best service. I live in Japan and I would trade a high end restaurant here for a small restaurant in India any second. The way people are willing to make sure you enjoy the meal. The way everyone is curious and open and kind even despite the hardships. I really hope I get to see more of India one day. Unfortunately the reality is India isn’t a safe country to travel to by a solo female (and that’s another thing that I hate, how so many women in India have to be scared.). Real examples from America: A man in Manhattan asked to bum a cigarette off me. A man in Atlanta tried to sell me a mixtape at the bus station, but acted like it would be a freebie until I took it. About the convo at about 23:52, the major difference Saji is referencing is that North America employed/continues to employ settler colonialism vs in the Indian context it’s about extraction and exploitation. The settlers in NA were treated themselves like human beings but they sure as sh!t didn’t treat us that way - signed a First Nations viewer
I think there’s a lot of value in understanding that more often than not colonialism is the same set of horrible motives that just exist in different fonts in different parts of the world. And seeing these similarities in experiences can strengthen ties between colonized people (ie the huge amounts of support from First Nations peoples for p4l3st1n3)
It's beyond hilarious and bloodboiling to see him say India is unhygienic and unsafe when places in the U.S have these same issues. And he had the audacity to compare the two. This reminds me when people shit on NJ and generalize it. Anytime they do, its always the same places; Camden, Newark, Trenton. To me, it's just rooted in racism and the lack of understanding and care they have for individuals that live there. These areas are heavily populated by Black and Latinos who are lower class and have worse living conditions because of poverty. There should be no suprise it's going to come with issues. It's just annoying when others criticize the people along with it, making it seem we enjoy living in these conditions and are blind to these problems when we're not. We recognize the bad, but acknowledge the good that's still here. No one likes to point out the Great Falls is in Paterson, another place stereotyped as being dirty and unsafe. Cleaniless, social class, and race are tied to how much respect you deserve and if you don't fit their standard, you're considered unworthy. My heart really goes out to the people in India and people in the U.S from India that have to witness assholes like this guy trash it based on one singular area he's visited.
I like to play a game where I find India on google maps and then you drop in to a random area on street view. The challenge is to find an area that doesn't have poop, trash or a dead animal within 2 clicks. It's VERY hard to win at this game.
I’ll never understand why people will go somewhere just to shit on a place, especially when they don’t take other factors into consideration, it’s just sad. Also, I hope you have a great holiday mate!
If he truly cared about the poor conditions people have to endure then why isn’t he bringing attention/donations to organizations in India that are working to improve these conditions. He could actually help make a positive impact but he’s simply racist and doesn’t care at all.
The way this guy treats beggars is actually insane. Tbh I don't have an issue with ignoring beggars, but pushing off a kid, then paying someone else on the street, and then being surprised that the kid come back is actually crazy
@fphagfphag6192 that kid may not have parents, or they may be in the same position as him, we have no idea. And even if they weren't that's no excuse to be a dick

Saji, as a fellow Indian, I do completely relate to your reaction of his video about India. But I feel that the biggest issue are the Indians themselves viewing his channel. He gets most of his views from Indians watching his videos and then these Indians will comment either on how he is misrepresenting the country (which he clearly is given that you almost never see him visit areas which have great infrastructure within the country) or comment appreciating and thanking him to show the so-called reality of India. The Small Brained American is completely self aware of what he is doing (including being well aware of the fact of having a small brain); he lays the trap for the Indians with his clickbait title, they like or dislike the video, and finally leave a positive or negative comment, all of which benefits him and his channel. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if there are quite a few Indians supporting this guy by paying him on Patreon. We need to stop being so foolish as to keep falling for the same trap over and over again. What the Indian viewers should actually be doing is simply go to his channel, report him for misinformation/disinformation (wherever applicable) and quietly leave. Hating on India is the new norm of making easy money on social media since they aren't qualified of earning in any other way because of their severely limited abilities. As you yourself are a youtuber and influencer with an excellent following and since you are visiting India, I would suggest that you can show the great parts of India including the local infrastructure and the great places there actually are worth seeing in the country as a response to his video. I am not sure where you will be within the country but there are great places to see in each and every place within India. Lastly, people must realize that every country has its good and bad sides. There is no doubt that India has a fair share of problems in terms of cleanliness, corruption, and many more, but so does every other country, especially the United States. The US itself has plenty of bad and dangerous areas where your chances of being robbed or even killed is extremely high. And you would find these issues even in the most developed cities within the US. So people should research more about a country before making conclusions based on watching a handful of videos online.
There are always two sides to a coin. If I were to summarize this drama, I'd deduce that both Saji and Connor are milking people with opinions and getting their numbers up. Connor made a video which absolutely blew up, Saji saw half the comments disagreeing with Connor and or hating him and Saji found an audience there. Your perspective is right too, Connor is absolutely doing all that you mentioned. However, a lot of the points made in this video are debatable in Connor's defence, you would just need a shift in perspective to notice that by putting yourself in his shoes and addressing the allegations. On RUclips, it really just comes down to if your audience's views align with yours... which is exactly what is going on in the comments. Connor's vlog this time just shows what it's really like... New & Old Delhi and many tier 1 cities in India are wildly overpopulated and accommodate 2x to 3x the people from their declared capacity. So, it's no surprise to find these filthy areas like the one he went to explore in the video where people live in complete squalor while they're all crammed up. I also summarized the transcript and found that there were accusations of Saji saying that he's condescending or unwilling to criticize Indians to their face... I mean, there's two things there. 1. Condescending: You get treated how you allow yourself to be treated and most people in his vlog automatically give him that power to treat them that way... most English-speaking vloggers do this, be it in any part of the world really... I've seen this dynamic being persistent in first world citizens touring the third world. And someone as experienced as Connor totally knows his way around India, I've watched all his vlogs in India and abroad, it's just the fault of the dynamic of the majority of Indians putting foreigners on a pedestal for reasons best known to themselves. 2. Unwilling to criticize: I mean... imagine you go to a country where you have no friends except some fellow RUclipsrs... Do you just start ranting at your hotel receptionist or your cab driver? or... Do you share this experience with a friend or family or perhaps your audience who is watching specifically for thing they clicked on the video for? Put yourself in his shoes for once and think... Which Indian specifically can he criticize for his overall experience? Besides, half the video is of him just genuinely trying to be there but he's thrown off by the stuff that is happening around him so it isn't even his fault he's reacting the way anyone would react to it. If anybody reading this comment wants to visit India, I'll be frank... Just go visit some pilgrimage site or actual holiday destinations (we have plenty of those like OP said) and NOT THE CITIES. You could even just go to a random town or village; the culture is more prevalent there compared to the urbanized shitholes called cities. Also, accompany your friends from India to really know what place is worth visiting and safe for you as tourists, often misinformed, you could make wrong decisions and invite trouble. Also, about the hospitality bit, I think we can acknowledge that "Hospitality' is solely used as a tool by 90% of the people in Connor's vlog to do business with him. I'm not denying the fact that Indians are very hospitable, I take pride in that fact that a big majority of us are selflessly hospitable because of our values but majority of what you see in the video is a facade of hospitality, some people were genuinely while the rest weren't. One last point to debate over is whether Connor is right in criticizing India without knowing the historical context.... I think it's pointless to criticize him for this because, it's just the way all humans are... Think of anyone who faced hardships or had poor circumstances in their life... They're only given sympathy for their hardships after they've overcome their circumstances and succeeded... basically, the story of most successful & famous people from humble beginnings. It's only when they became successful that people sympathised with them, or for any individual, there's only really 10% of sympathy in your hard times while 90% is criticism. And imo, it's not essentially a bad thing, it cultivates growth and for many, this criticism serves as a motivator for change, it's just how you look at it. It's been 77 long years since India's independence... you can still sit and complain about colonial times and how they totally ruined India (which they totally did, no argument there). However, garnering sympathy just isn't the move anymore. Even as Indians, we know where the faults lie but we'd rather just ignore them and then expect sympathy from the vloggers like this for being inconsiderate and not sympathizing with our circumstances, while we fail to unite as citizens and demand accountability for the people with authority to bring about change and fix what's wrong in this country. Also, it's not just a matter of pointing fingers, but also our fault at being that way and giving up and say words like "This is India, nothing will change" Our central Govt. knows the way forward, they don't sit around and ask for sympathy, they're doing everything they can to improve our country as a whole because even they realise that it's the only way forward.
@@GearGreat The question isn't about who is milking whom, its about how you go about doing it. Every human being has selfishness ingrained within them for the sake of their survival. So almost every social media influencer will of course speak on trending content for making money from it. As far as Saji's criticism is concerned, its not like I agree with every single one of them. For example, if I look at it from a cultural lens, considering the phrase "Atithi Devo Bhava" which translates to "The guest is God" within the Indian cultural context, I don't completely agree with the point that foreigners should be paying more than the usually fare just because they are earning more. I can even have a more aggressive take on the matter given that Indians scam even their own fellow Indians if they realize that you are from a different city within the country and are unfamiliar with the place. In fact, Indians are one of the biggest victims of the scams that are taking place within the country. At the same time, if you look at it purely from a business lens, you could argue that the rickshaw drivers are just taking purchasing power parity into consideration which is fair from a business standpoint. Again, as I said earlier, there is no denying that India has several problems. But what is consistent with The Small Brained American in his video is to misrepresent the whole of India based on visiting some corner of a city. The guy's intentions are clearly toxic and you can clearly see the type of company he is hanging around with. At 18:11, baldy here is basically telling that the Britishers left India in a good place and we ruined it and you can see him agreeing to it. This is nothing more than blatant racism right there. And there is a difference between toxic criticism through misrepresentation of a country versus constructive criticism which weighs in both the good and bad parts of things. Simply saying that something "sucks" does not help in changing or improving anything. My only problem with people like The Small Brained American is that content like these just fuels to the fire to the existing trend of racism that going on all over the world particularly against Indians. The guy is intentionally using the existing racism and negativity to milk views and make money out of it which is downright unethical. And an even bigger problem are the Indians supporting the guy. I don't know why but most Indians really love to shit on their own country. I can understand that many Indians go through various types of problems within the country but that shouldn't be the sole reason for just speaking negative about our country. Not everything can be blamed on the government. Why is it that the government should be held responsible for keeping the cities clean? The responsibility lies with the citizens. Similarly there are many such aspects where the responsibility lies with both the government and its citizens. Its very easy to just sit at the comfort of ones home at spew negativity about all the problems lying within our country without making any single contribution on improving it in any manner. Lastly, with regards to colonialism, 77 years is not that long of a time given the ~200 years of systematic destruction of the Indian economy and heritage by the British. I'd argue that we have come a long way from the state we were left in. No government is perfect but compared to other countries India in particular is a very difficult country to govern. Every state is like a different country having its own culture and traditions and each of these states are more interested in themselves than the country as a whole. Managing this is a great challenge in itself and we have come a long way given the conditions. Foreigners are free to criticize but given the complexity present in every country, especially like a complex country such as India, there is a much better way to present their criticism than how it is usually gone about, particularly in the case of The Small Brained American. Unfortunately, that's the nature of social media in general as people will do anything to make easy money. I just hope that at least we as fellow Indians stand more for our country and have a more positive outlook. Many outsiders who don't know anything about India are already shitting on us on every opportunity and it just makes things worse if we add to this and shit on ourselves as well.
Also what I don't understand is that why do these tourists not go where we Indians go for our travels? NO INDIAN GOES TO PLACES LIKE DELHI FOR VACATION I WOULDN'T WISH THAT ON MY WORST ENEMIES. Go to like actual tourist places built for tourists. Delhi is a place where people come to make a living. They don't sit around to have a leisurely time. Also not to mention is that places like Delhi used to be big metropolitans with huge budget until some people decided to rob India of all it's wealth. Like if oneday places like LA or London had their budgets reduced to 1/10 th of the initial amount with still the same number of people and still the same responsibilities any city would suffer and crumble. Also most people from my area go to delhi for either the food or wedding shopping. Ofcourse not including work reasons. If you plan on visiting India go to places like Darjeeling Shimla Andman Goa Kochin or anything like that please don't go to Delhi if you want an easy vacation.
@@lolamatola1719 You're right. A residential area is just a place to live. Its not really built for tourists. Nobody goes to a slum to enjoy their visit.
Ehh, there are people who truly like to explore a city including the daily hassles and local hangout spots that come with it. The purpose is to experience something outside your bubble. He's basically saying "yeah indian people were enslaved and lived in poverty back then but hey atleast the streets were clean!" while standing right next to them, what an idiotic scum. Colonialism is what made so many indians lack quality education in the first place as they're living the after effects of it, but people like thse two "travel" vloggers seem to either not care or don't want to acknowledge that major part of history. Hes talking about white americans as if they were being colonized and they werent the ones colonizing.
Exactly what I was thinking. What an insanely stupid and ignorant thing to say especially seeing as reservations are so small and their conditions are still very dire today. Honestly, this guy is literally perpetuating white supremacy.

@Bigblackman-k6n Your comment history here is literally full of internalized racism for your own people. So. No. I don't care if you're an Indian living in India. India's caste system is still alive and well. You're out of your mind if you think I'm about to trust the opinion of a high caste member when it comes to those of a lower caste. Like at all. I've heard and SEEN the conditions the Dhalit people are subjected to and all you're doing is ensuring that rhetoric remains alive and well throughout the rest of the world too. "Gross why would you want to buy something from a dirty Indian market?" Because I like Indian wares and buying them from impoverished people means they have a bit of money for the day. I saw gorgeous fabrics, jewelry and home wares in one shot alone and there's zero reason to not want to support those businesses when I am constantly seeing hardworking people looked down upon. India is massive and has one of the highest populations in the entire world. You're literally just racist if you think every single lower caste market isn't worth shopping in. Even if you are Indian you certainly haven't been to every shop in order to evaluate their wares. It might be overwhelming since they do take a HUGE interest in anyone that is actually purchasing items as a tourist but considering the plan is literally just to shop and get pottery and stuff I don't mind that so much. Because why would you walk through a market you have no intention of buying anything from?
The fact these Western nation did so much harm for wealth, that other countries have to deal with consequences, but act so ignorant at the same time. Hypocrites .
i actually have watched bald before, and so i have seen this guy through him. what's funny is that bald went out of his way to defend the mongol people, saying that their conditions are because of poverty, yet he clearly couldn't see how india has suffered the same. they both went to bolivia and were complete racist jerks, too. p damn gross.
Working in the food industry in America, you can really appreciate how any of the criticism he launches towards the street vendors could also be applied to so so many kitchens in the US
like as if America in 2024 hasn’t had multiple news cycles of bird flu in dairy farms, and contaminated deli products and children dying of child labor law rollbacks (migrant children so of course there isn’t outrage)
ok but the biggest thing about him comparing India as a British colony to America when it was a British colony is that the current majority population of America is not and was not the population being colonized. What he forgets is that he himself is a colonizer or more so is descended from colonizers. If he looks at the communities of people in America who were indigenous to North America when colonization started there, he will see more similarities to the impact colonization had on India and the impact it had on North America. He forgets that he directly favours from white power. America as it stands today was built by WHITE colonizers who decided they wanted their own country. Ironic because they didn't leave the Indigenous people alone to have theirs.

This is genuinely so gross. Ive also never understood wanting a local price as a tourist. Another thing, about his closing claims. Hes compairing the wrong groups. The people he's thinking of as americans in a british colony were british people who moved here. To be honest though I'm not exactly surprised that he isn't smart enough to connect those dots, people like him have such a limited understanding of the world and become so assured in it that they refuse to actually learn about things with an open mind or have their perspective challenged
The Native people are absolutely nothing , South american natives actually could build civilizations whilst north americans coudn't They coudn't even read or write Keep in mind many different cultures created their own writing systems I'm talking about writing not symbols , North americans indians coudn't do any of that other then burn eachother alive , and Cannibalism was even common in certain tribes.

as someone studying comparative politics, the comparison between the colonies of the U.S. and India is absurd. as colonies, they were structured entirely differently. India was primarily used as a source of income, unlike the U.S., which was seen as a place for british citizens to live. India was entirely “given” to one company for profit. they eventually became a crown colony but were still treated as subhuman. the british empire institutionalized discrimination and poverty, drained India of their natural resources, and set their economy up for failure before it even begun. they over-taxed the U.S. they are not the same.
my jaw dropped when i heard that comparison, it's so disgusting. how can you compare 2 completely different situations

Never saw people doing it more than them
It’s odd most Americans from the south actually really like small talk. I’m from Texas and normally at random we spark up conversation with one another at random. Mostly it’s people from the east coast and metropolitan cities that are dismissive

Also, it's not just a matter of pointing fingers, but also our fault at being that way and giving up and say words like "This is India, nothing will change"
Our central Govt. knows the way forward, they don't sit around and ask for sympathy, they're doing everything they can to improve our country as a whole because even they realise that it's the only way forward.
I'm Indian but i travel to other places with this mindset, so Delhi makes sense. Not this guy obviously. He'd complain about Gangtok and Ladakh too. He truly should stay in American suburbia
@komal146 My dude, its a slum
@@komal146 I personally love delhi because of its hustle and bustle and seeing people from all over India and beyond live there along with their culture is amazing but yes seeing tourists like him just shit on locals is blood boiling. Delhi and its people are no doubt a beauty that needs a different lens to be seen
The guy said he was there for a layover. Not a vacation. Time is limited.
His friend seems even worse than he is. Him justifying colonialism in front of indian people is horrible.
And yes the British was much more harsh on Indian people than the American colonies.
That's a silly excuse. Stop playing the victim.

Me like the people who were colonized in America (natives) were forced on the rez and live without running water in some places, so yeah, colonization leads to the people being colonized having a harder time far into the future.
Yknow I get being overwhelmed by lots of people coming up to you asking for things. When I lived on the US East coast I dealt with it a lot and it wore me down cause I wasn’t used to the attention being from a more sparse part of the country.
"Gross why would you want to buy something from a dirty Indian market?"
Because I like Indian wares and buying them from impoverished people means they have a bit of money for the day.
Because why would you walk through a market you have no intention of buying anything from?

ok but the biggest thing about him comparing India as a British colony to America when it was a British colony is that the current majority population of America is not and was not the population being colonized.

The West and Turkey have amplified their dehumanizing stereotypes against South Asians, examples being: street sh8tters, scammers, savages, filthy, r@pists, etc.
