Silverchair are famous for being very young when they started out, just 13 in fact, and only 15 when they rose to international prominence. 1995's Frogstomp was the first album of theirs I remember everyone having. I guess my friends and I liked it because the guys are exactly our age, all born in 1979. But with only a little retrospect, it did sound like typical teenage grunge, kinda dated and trite. With Neon Ballroom though, though they were still only 19 at time of recording, I felt they had matured immensely in their writing, and it remains one of my favourite albums of the 1990s. This is a good song from that album, but I recommend even more listening to "Emotion Sickness".
I'm a bit younger so this album came out for me when I was in high school. I'm from Seattle so it seemed like the Seattle grunge bands were getting more attention in the late 90's still and Silverchair was overlooked. I remember being extremely impressed with their musicality but couldn't find anyone who agreed with me at the time. 20+ years later thanks to youtube reactions, I know I was right to love them!
@@chiefrocka680 ummmmm....no....their best was Diorama. That was an original sophisticated masterpiece. Tomorrow and Frogstomp- the album it came from- was a great album but quite clearly very derivative of the grunge sound.
Thank you so much for checking this one out. Silverchair is just ridiculously talented and underappreciated.. This song especially shows their growth and change.
This is an interesting first choice for Silverchair, but a good song and representation of the band overall! Check out many more! Emotion sickness Ana's song Freak Those Thieving Birds, Part 1 / Strange Behaviour / Those Thieving Birds, Part 2 Anthem Straight lines Reflections of a sound
This was off of Neon Ballroom 1999. Daniel would have been about 18 when he wrote this song. The whole album is awesome. Don't be fooled by the soft tone of this song, they have some pretty heavy songs. Great song! Take care.
Just this week i am listening to this band again, when it's it comes to artistry and talent this is band is too good, songs u guys should listen is emotion sickness, all these years, pure massacre and love yourlife ,and greatest view, Just pure art
Silverchair have always been my fav Aussie band, saw them live numerous times, they are great live! Other songs you guys should check out are Israel's son, freak, across the night, tuna in the brine, one way mule, straight lines and many more, looking forward to the next 'chair' reaction, also some other Aussie artists you might like to get into are Diesel, cold chisel,Powderfinger, baby animals and the living end ,keep up the good work!
Absolute class act. Love the sound the music and their progression. Hard at the start and morphed with age. Good tunes in all of the albums. And being Newy boys even better.
Miss You Love is from Silverchair’s third album Neon Ballroom. They were 20 years old when it was released in 1999. Many of the songs from the album deal with the lead singers personal demons. It was a change in their sound. The first two album, released when they were 15 and 17 they wore their grunge guitar based sound on their sleeves. So this song and the others on the album were a major departure for them. Songs from Neon Album worth exploring are Ana’s Song (dealing with anorexia), Anthem for the Year 2000 and Emotion Sickness
Silverchair just got missed out in the the history of things. Till they gave up on themselves. Definitely geniuses with few or no contemporaries in what they were able to achieve with raw emotion, lyrics & sound!
Nah. Didn’t give up on themselves. Know what happened and their struggle and that comment. Unbelievable Aussie group and some history and success. Struggles on life and especially thrust into the limelight at such a young age. Never gave up on themselves.
The band is from Australia - they took their name from the C.S. Lewis children's novel 'The Silver Chair'... The incredible part is the band members (vocalist/ guitarist Daniel Johns, drummer Ben Gillies and bassist Chris Joannou) were only 15 when they were signed in 1995 and recorded their debut album 'Frogstomp'... Silverchair looked like a kid-version of Nirvana - a rock trio w/ a blond lead singer/ guitarist, and they rode the 90's grunge wave to 2 million copies in sales in the US. The next album 'Freak show' (1997) went gold in the US (half million copies). This album 'Neon ballroom' in 1999 was a bit of a 'maturity' as Silverchair wanted to deliver songs away from 90's grunge (despite the single 'Anthem for the year 2000') and they did score another gold record w/ songs like 'Miss you love' and "Ana's song (Open fire)" Unfortunately, Silverchair's commercial fortunes declined after the next album 'Diorama' in 2002 went more in a orchestral direction, followed by 'Young modern' in 2007... The band split up and have yet to do anything since.
Silverchair are from over my way in Newcastle NSW Australia! Their biggest hit was Tomorrow in 1994, also huge in the US. Must react to as the guys were only 15 then and already songwriters, singers and musicians. Their influence was mainly Pearl Jam. Another banger, which came much later is Straight Lines. Thx
Neon Ballroom is a fantastic album the whole album from start to finish and your right this is the band that was real young when they started but by this song and record they where older I think they where around 12 years old when they formed the group
Asia was right kinda. They were young when they started, 16 y/o on average for the band. Yet this song came out a few years after, and in saying that they were probably 19 at the time...
I've heard of this band. Slower song. Movie suggestions: Judge Dredd, Hackers, Mortal Kombat, Throw Momma From The Train, 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi. Enjoy!
I think this is about a fan encounter that he has regrets about but the fan acted like a fool. No respect for how they acted that day but Daniel misses that crazy adoration. I could definitely be reaching.
Man that's a crap recording. Very warbly to listen to. They're definately not like that. React to Israel's Son, Spawn Again, One Way Mule. They're way better songs. He shows some real gutsy vocals in Spawn Again, you'd think it was a totally different person. He has such a variety of sounds to him.

Yea i seen them at the famous hammerjacks in baltimore. Even though they were the opening act Silverchair hadto play first
Oops sent premature. They were to young for labor laws
that was them at their best, with songs like tomorrow.

I still think Diorama was their masterpiece. Daniel’s songwriting on that record was unbelievable.
Diorama is a fucking masterpiece
Possibly the most underrated album of all time !
I thought Young Modern was even better.
Thank you so much for checking this one out. Silverchair is just ridiculously talented and underappreciated.. This song especially shows their growth and change.
Don't remember ever hearing about this group but it was a good song especially after reading the comments about how young they were.
There's a misconception about this song. It's actually about not being in love, not finding it, and not caring about it.
100% correct
Yes, and it was intentionally made to be deceptive
@@gbengaogunsanya5284 it wasnt made to be deceptive, people just assumed it was something it wasnt. Its like Time Of Your Life by Green Day

Diorama is a MASTERPIECE. Anything from that album. Tuna in the Brine, Across the Night, After All These Years would be my top 3.
One of my favourite bands ever. 💕

I believe the song is more about missing the feeling of love in general. Not loving anything or anyone. He was in a dark place
Nice hearing this again! I had forgotten Silverchair...

she is right,,they were really young when they played this track. they started with 14 years old
My favorite song by them is the greatest view. Miss you love is a fave as well thanks for the reaction
Listen to Asia. Silverchair's first album Frogstomp came out when they were about 15. On this album they are about 19.
"Tomorrow" and "Freak" should be next!!
The Doors is my favorite

If you want a real version of this song, check out Rock in Rio 2002?? The crowd really gets into it. They're awesome live, pity no longer together.

Freak, Ana's song, The Door....
Kinda missed the meaning… it’s about being so numb and not wanting to feel anything. He misses being able to feel love at all 😉
Totally wrong silverchair to listen to. Have to do the first album and song “Pure Massacre” or the like
With silverchair the earlier the better
The song is about Daniels struggles with anorexia

nasally, whiny, emo rock - oh boy.
They have many sounds. They didnt stick in one lane for more than an album or 2.
