The lead singer's father died when he was just 11 and this affected him badly with Richard suffering from depression after it happened. A lot of his musical inspiration is drawn from this - "the drugs don't work" is probably his most heartfelt song of his father's treatment for cancer and how it didn't work. He is such a talented musician and he lays his life bare in his music.

I love this song and it's very deep. Even the video has meaning. His walk is a representation of the path of life, the people he encounters are the people and events that we encounter through our lives. The guy with the fridge on a dolly is like a big life altering event that was narrowly avoided. The people he bumped into are the little speed bumps that help shape our lives. The girl in the car is a bad relationship, the car is the large event that he was able to cross and move on from but she didn't move on as easily and followed representing how a love can effect your life long term even after it's ended. The lady he knocked down was like an encounter where he hurt someone else's life in some way and he was recognizing that but still life continues without looking back. The girl that checked him out was like a perfect fling that came and went and left only a fond memory. The car that actually made him pause was a major life event that held him in place for a while, maybe good maybe bad but significant enough to make his life take pause but in the end it too did pass and life continued as always. And the end when the other four followed with him is like the people in your life who are there for the long haul whoever they may be they stick with you till the end while still living their lives respectively.

Nah this is perfect mate! Only thing I'd say otherwise is he stepped over the car, which could mean he felt above his previous partner and she tried catching him but he's already grown from it so he paid her no mind. And how at the start, he waited for the car to come before it barely missing him, it looked like he was waiting for the red light to appear then crossed the road, probably depicting that he got thru suicidal thoughts that told him to end it all. But yet when he got to the next road he was looking at his reflection maybe thats him reflecting on how he tried to end his life by getting hit by car but this time round he stopped to take a look at himself before crossing the 2nd road. Other than those two things I think what you depicted is completely accurate.

The video starts at birth, the car missing him by inches represents how lucky we are to be born, he then encounters obstacle after obstacle including bad relationships (the woman shouting at him), the woman he wants passing him by (at 6:00, notice as she passes him another guy runs in front ie ‘getting there first’) the old woman symbolising his elders telling him he can’t do what he wants and various people mocking him along the way.
He makes no contact with the young woman pushing the child in the pushchair, she swerved him/he swerved her….whichever way you want to look at it, it’s a situation he avoids.
Hurting others, even if his intention wasn’t to hurt someone (the woman falling down after colliding with him). At one point he looks into his reflection in the window which symbolises evaluating his life. In the end he finds the people he can trust who will always be there for him. It’s a great video.
Edit: never noticed it before but the woman he knocked over at 03:00 could symbolise a teenage relationship he screwed up, notice the two people closest look at him in disbelief like a disappointed mum and dad, confused how he could carelessly hurt ‘their’ girl who’s floored by the loss of a first love.
The girl is helped up by a new man who seems protective of her and even angry at Richard despite the fact he’s moved on…there’s nothing new man can do though and knows it.

I had very unconventional wedding .:) My husband was in an MC. So alot of bikers and hard types. This was the track without lyrics, I used for my Bridesmaids entrance >:) Absolutely love this..:)
The Groomsmen came in to Clubbed to Death, from the Matrix. The most epic Dude strut song, ever made..:)

Thank you for reaction. I love your videos Asia and BJ.
If you liked this and want to listen to different song with a similar vibe you should seriously check out Standing Outside A Broken Phone Booth With Money In My Hand by the Primitive Radio Gods. It has equally deep lyrics but they're way more symbolic and a bit vague and requires a deeper thinking and interpretation.

the real genius in this song is Andrew loog oldham who conducted those strings that were used in a rolling stones song in the 60s...then the strings were sampled and filled out in this song 3 decades later

Fan fact : This song It's based on a sample of Andrew Loog Oldham's orchestral cover of The Rolling Stones song "The Last Time", and has involved some legal controversy around an accusation of plagiarism.
