Talk about nostalgia overload...besides watching Starcade on WTNH as a kid in the mid-80s, also remember that Wheel of Fortune promo, along w/the Boys & Girls Club PSA and its catchy jingle!

First one I’ve seen with good games. Loved Track and Field when it came out.
Thanks Fuzzy. I remember Geoff Edwards from his hosting The New Treasure Hunt for first run syndication ( 1973-77). The series was executive produced by Chuck Barris ( Dating Game, Newlywed Game, The Gong Show et al). And Chain Reaction produced in Canada for USA Network ( 1986-91).

Wasn’t treasure hunt the one where they picked wrapped boxes?
This is an awesome show, very fun to watch! Takes me back. A few thoughts though: 1. There's little advantage in answering the questions right. If you pick the game (there's only like 4 games) you go first, then the second team knows what score they have to beat and they've just seen what you did wrong. I guess the only real advantage is if you pick the mystery game? 2. The scoring seems off. In some games you can easily run up a score in the 10,000's, while in other games you're lucky to hit 1,000. Yet they seem to just add the points up together without adjustment. So if you get up big in the first round in a high-scoring game, it's almost impossible for the other team to catch up by winning low-scoring games. At least one team figured this out and picked a low-scoring game for the last round, basically sealing the victory. It seems like they should have had some kind of relative scoring system, or else play a best of 3 or best of 5 format. 3. To me it would be better if they played fewer games for longer amounts of time. In some games the cut scenes take a huge chunk of the time off the clock with zero chance to score or even play. 4. Why does the host insist on the long explanations/advice before each game? It's usually a waste of time. They should just let the kids play the game for longer instead.
Great observations! One extra tidbit I noticed: during the first game of Pole Position, the score counter stopped mid-race when the timer stopped. I have no idea how they could make the game do this, short of a custom ROM. But how would they have gotten a custom ROM in 1982? Maybe Namco sent them a custom board just for the show? Edit: Happens in Change Lanes too. So all custom ROMs?
Yep, you answered your question to #1 (in #2). The advantage is getting the later questions right, so that you can pick a high scoring game if you're behind (and vice versa)
Assuming the YMCA spot is a PSA, there are no paid commercials in this program. I wonder if WTNH aired it sustaining in order to claim it as “educational” programming.
Wheel of Fortune (with excerpt of "Spinning Wheel" by Blood, Sweat & Tears). A local promo for a game show that has been on 8 since moving from NBC affiliate (now NBC-owned) WVIT Channel 30 in the 1984-85 season. In NYC, Wheel (synd. as it was on NBC daytime at the time this aired) was on WCBS-TV channel 2 from its 1983 start until 1989 when it moved to WABC channel 7. Has stayed there ever since with Jeopardy! kicking things off at 7:00.
I would still be excited to win that crystal castles game, especially now. That was the most beautiful video game cabinet they ever put out.
This show holds a very special place in my heart. ❤️❤️ When i watch one of these I'm smiling the whole time. 😊
That was awesome😊

Yes
Don't forget The Big Spin where he did that show from 1986 to 1994 until his retirement from television.
To this day every time I jump in my car and start it up I hear the words “Prepare to Qualify”!
Wow Thanks

The reason Geoff gives contestants advice is so they have ways to get more points and advantages (even if they're not familiar with the gameplay)

Sports games in this episode; motor and otherwise.
quick clip of Pelle Lindbergh , he died a few months later
his crash was a few blocks from my house
Wonder if they kept the crystal castles?
Anybody else use their comb on Track&field to get extra speed?

10:29 Nice Howard Cosell impersonation! 😄
I like how the host always has the "record" scores un these games
