I have one like that and it's helped me tune in to the sweet spot so much more than before. Great to warm up with for 15 mins or so before playing

I don't see a lot of videos that talks about training paddles but I do believe it will help. I reckon a truly accurate training paddle would be one that is of the same size as the actual paddle but the paddle face is replaced by another material (future tech?) except for the "sweet spot" which will then replicate the feel/weight most accurately. Without the "extra" sides around the training paddle, it'll definitely change it's swing weight.

It's no different than the Franklin sweet spot trainer though...

I ended up getting a Pkoll Quiet2 which is a USAP approved paddle that requires similar focus and attention.

As a former tennis college player why use a different paddle? Than what you play with makes no sense to me

Because people mishit balls like crazy and training paddles provide instant feedback on mishit shots. They have them for tennis too, so it's not specific to pickleball.
