-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y...
Lots of people will talk about the video. It features "The Bee Girl"! As I recall, the girl on the cover is the sister of someone in the band. In the video, it's the story of a girl dressed as a bee, trying to find acceptance, telling a sweet story. During the year this song was nominated for MTV Video awards, at the end of the show the Bee Girl returned live, to tap dance during the closing credits!
Cool song and official video. What a shame the lead singer OD'd a couple years later, leaving behind a 3 month old daughter.
Blind Melon's vocalist, Shannon Hoon, was also a vocalist on Guns n' Roses' song 'Don't Cry,' that you should definitely react to!
if you guys like the juxtaposition of melancholy lyrics with a carefree sound, The Smashing Pumpkins 'Today' and '1979' are definite must listens
I remember showing this to my daughter when she was not feeling like she had a group to fit in with. The theatre kids ended up being her group of “bees.”
Great example of an early’90s micro genre of neo-hippy music.
Screaming Trees....Nearly Lost You
The name Blind Melon comes from an old Cheech and Chong comedy routine "Blind Melon Chitlin'" a parody of the blues man Blind Lemon Jefferson.
" Tones of Home" is another great song by Blind Melon.
This is one of those tunes that immediately transports you right back to the early 90’s and where we were in life when it came out.
RIP Shannon Hoon 🕊️This song brings me back…the bee girl 🐝
Very rarely did a song get huge on the radio that I didn't end up getting tired of and turning off when it came on. Never got tired of this one. Still not tired of it
An old customer of mine at my bar used to call this tune: "the happiest song about abysmal depression". we used to play it all the time
Aww, man, you gotta see the VIDEO!!!!
This was so popular back in 1993, that during the world series one night at veterans stadium in Philadelphia they were playing it between innings and the entire crowd was singing along. It was spine chilling just to watch it on tv. Then, all 65,000 of them booed raucously when they turned it off to resume play. Ha. Classic!
Watching the Official Music Video for this one is an ABSOLUTE MUST!!
What I love about it is that it just doesn’t sound like anything else.
Shannon Hoon is from the town I live in. His early death was tragic. His mother held a vigil at his grave that continued for many many years on his birthday. It grew to the point that she was forced to quit holding them by our local police and city board members.
Shannon Hoon, one of a kind for sure!
as others have said, it's hard to separate this song from the "viral" video for it that played endlessly on MTV at the time. Fun tune!
