The scenery forming a carrying case is a very clever move by Hornby, sadly you don't see that sort of thing these days.
The track was probably just dirty and in need of a clean, not worn out. Thomas' wheels may also have needed a clean.

What I think you can to is to ether clean the track or get a new 0-4-0 Thomas

I think the track is either dirty or it's steel track so you should get some newer hornby track, also I would check for hair on thomas' wheels

i think it was because 0-4-0s are cheaper to make than 0-6-0s, it looks a little weird doesn’t it😭
