    WOW..there are so many amazing sights you've shared I'd like to see in person...I always thought Iceland was mostly cold, snow and glaciers. The greenery and mountains are beautiful. Thanks again for sharing all this trip!

    I don't think that you've ever met a cave that you didn't like. Your video where you almost got stuck in a cave comes to mind. I really like that the way that you approach what you record for us. It's naive in the very best sense of that word. You don't bring baggage along, but rather, just enjoy what you're experiencing and share that joy with us. Thanks for sharing your adventurous life with us.

    The function of the space connected to any fjárhús (sheep shelter) or fjós (cow shelter) in Iceland was ALWAYS to store hay for the winter.

    Hi Mobile Instinct, except for the cemetary I haven't seen one tree, yet this cave house had lumber shoring the roof and some sides. Any idea where they got that lumber or even how these early settlers found wood for heat and cooking? Or is that the reason there's no trees now-a limited resource?
    Also, can you share how/why you're in Iceland when your channels have been about your travels throughout the USA?
    Great videos, thank you! 👍

    • @Orphen42O
      @Orphen42O Год назад

      I speculate that the very first settlers deforested the area and made wood especially scarce. I think timbers would end up being used and then re-used in any building project. We think people long ago were environmentally friendly but people in the past did things like the slash and burn clearance of the land, deforestation, and overgrazing. Even in the Middle Ages, people thought resources were renewable and unending.

      This shelter/cave is right next to the coastal road. There are some forested areas some miles further down the road to the east. These forests cling to the steep incline leading to an upper plateau and a water reservoir and are pretty thick by Iceland standards with lots of good trees. This was the only place in Iceland that actually had a forest by my own standards. There may have been other forest around but coming from Michigan, I can drive by a lot of trees and take no notice at all.
