I’ve been living here for over 50 years. Never bored. There are tons of music festivals and concerts. Always a great time on the market, day or night. The NAC offers something for everyone year round. Short drive to several beautiful small towns in Eastern Ontario Western Quebec. If you want to do something, it’s not hard to find something to do.
Any recommendations on the best museum? We’re going to the mint but I’m having a hard time picking between the other several for a second museum (nature, air and space, art, history, etc)
The Byward Market has always been fun and I have always felt safe there. If you don't bother other people , they don't bother you. I go at least 4 times a year
Well done but here are a few updates. 1. The Byward Market no longer has a large farmers’ market and is not a safe place due to homelessness and drug addicts. 2. Parliament centre block is under construction so there are currently no tours. The House of Commons is located in the newly renovated west block. 3. Winterlude activities have been scaled back due to the mild winters. The canal was not open for skating in 2024. Otherwise, the galleries are your best bet! Enjoy!
As someone who lives in Ottawa, I'd add a couple of caveats: The Centre Block of Parliament is undegoing a massive renovation that won't be finished until 2030 or 2031. And don't plan on being able to skate on the Rideau Canal in winter; last winter, it was only open for 10 days. Thanks, global warming! This affects Winterlude too.
@@travelawaitsyou Gatineau Park is not in Ottawa. The mean building of the Parlement will be close for ten years. The Rideau Canal is already two years (Winter) that is close because the climat change. Etc etc
@@ronsal5968 And completely omitted to mention the National Arts Centre, where there are resident theatre companies and an orchestra, as well as the best dance programme in North America bar none.

Thank you for the update.
The Notre Dame Cathedral/Basilica across the street from the National Gallery of Canada is well worth visiting too.
locks don't run after Thanksgiving neither do boat tours - nothing to see.
