Gotta say, this is the best review I’ve seen you do. You pointed out strengths, issues, questioned design decisions. I have never really seen you comment, just explain the bag with no personal commentary. A very worthy watch. Bravo.
Excellent review, and well said about the change in ownership. As a new Tom Bihn bag owner, I was surprised at some of the feedback online. I think internal mesh pockets are good. I have a TB Pilot for EDC and wish the side pockets had high, built-in, elastic pouches to hold my AirPods or chapstick. I do use the TB pouches and find that the key straps put them lower in the pocket, then I need to get them out, open them up, etc. An elastic mesh pocket would give me very quick access. The handle strap they use is the same as on my TB Cambiata, and I find that to be sufficient for carry without getting in the way when not in use. If I had a good use case for this bag, I would get it. Keep up the fine work.
Really great review. The video quality and lighting is superb, it's much easier see how the pack looks and feels in person. As a first shot out of the "new" TB, this is a winner. But I struggle with roll tops. Great looking, for sure. But I've now got an extra foot of fabric obstructing my view of, and access into, the interior of my pack. I think your comment on a 21L version is spot on. It's ideal for EDC, and getting in and out of a smaller roll top bag is easier. My wish list would also include a single, large nicely organized admin pocket (see A19 Evade, for example), instead of the two smaller pockets offered.
Awesome video. Great update on TB the company as well as this new bag. I've have several many TB bags and cubes and... well.. lots of TB stuff that I've been using for many many years. Genuine road-worthy gear. I just wish it was more accessible here in Australia both in terms of outright price... and then shipping. I didn't know that TB sold the company and that Nik left too... I have the Synik bag as an EDC and the wallet too. Ironically (maybe) it was their discontinuing of a product (the Backpack Packing Cube) that drove me recently to explore and ultimately purchase gear from Peak Designs and Matador. My TB BPC has finally worn out after many many many trips and many many many days of amazing daypacking around the world... and I wanted to grab a replacement... only to find out they no longer make them. So I ended up with a Matador Freefly 16 and it was great on my recent two weeks around EUR. Love TB and the sheer quality of their gear. Don't always love every design choice they make. But.. that's what a free market is all about.
Appreciate taking the time to share this, Timothy. Hopefully, more AU retailers will carry Tom Bihn products in the future. Thanks for dropping by and keep sharing your experiences with the rest of the carry world. Have a good one!
I am looking for a new backpack that can stand against the (UK) weather that allows me to carry an umbrella *and* water bottle as well as a laptop (incl. accessories) for work. I absolutely adore the orange colour but for a 5’4 guy like me I think it might be a bit too big. Wish they did the black one in orange. So I am stuck now in which one to buy lol Great review nonetheless.
Hi there! This is the Rushfaster Laptop Sleeve for the 14" MacBook Pro in navy colour. Here's the link: rushfaster.com.au/products/rushfaster-laptop-sleeve-for-14-macbook-pro-2021?variant=41811926384806. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks for watching!
Can 26l version fit: 2x PACKING CUBE SHOULDER BAG 2x side effect 1x 0,75l water bottle Laptop And still close and carry comfortably? I need to decide between 26 and 31 today. I would like to have both but atm I would like edc bag and using it short daily hikes.
Great to hear that you're interested in the 21-liter version of the Tom Bihn Addax! We'll certainly take note of your preference. If you have any other requests or questions, feel free to let us know:)
8:08 bite your tongue! Bags need organization. If your opinion is that you should use pouches then your perfect backpack is one large container with nothing but space for your pouches. That sounds like a terrible bag to me. I want separate pockets to put things in. I want pouches and sleeves within those pockets to keep me organized and so I don’t need $150 in pouches to supplement my $300 backpack and make the backpack functional as a container. Thanks.
Organisation in bags is good. Accessing the organisation in the Addax can be a cumbersome. Simplifying the organisation here would make it easier - Roland
@@JayWing9 I use both. I’ve got an EDC pouch I use and a general tech pouch. It’s easy to bring things from one bag to another. I also tend to keep duplicates of other things in each bag I have in heavy rotation at a given time. But, if I’m going to put another thing in my bag …. I want compartments for it. I want easy access locations that will separate a thing and make it easy to find. So, if I get a ticket stub for a parking garage, or if I decide to bring a fidget device that day or if I am going on a date and I need things for that date … I want convenient locations to store things where they can be quickly accessed. Not just a large dump pouch that has a lot of crap in it that I then need to sort through. Just like how the pouches I use aren’t just packing cubes with no compartments of their own.

Good to see Tom Bihn dipping their toes into the rolltop market, been looking for one myself for a while :) Great stuff Roland!
Glad you enjoyed it. Many thanks!

Appreciate it, Ike. Glad you liked our video. Thanks for sharing. Cheers!
I appreciate all the info about the company at the beginning. Nice bag, too.
Thanks for watching! Cheer!
I want both. Tom Bihn once again killing it. 🔥
Agree! 💯

The 26l looks great but far too big for my needs and build i second a 21l version. Great review.
Glad you enjoyed the review! Thanks for watching. Cheers!
i like the small pockets more than the large internal pocket.

@@RushfasterTV thank you!
@Rushfaster-i realized you gave me the MacBook cover-which I like, but I was asking about your iPad cover
Never mind-you guys don’t ship to the
US😡
Is this going to be available on rushfaster?
No plans to stock Tom Binh on Rushfaster just yet. But hopefully someday soon.
Do you have more Information for Tom, Darcy, and Nick leaving the company?
Yep! There’s a blog post here: www.tombihn.com/blogs/main/q-a-with-cindy
Thank you!
Can 26l version fit:
2x PACKING CUBE SHOULDER BAG
2x side effect
1x 0,75l water bottle
Laptop

Yeah, I think that would be okay. It would be full, but it would work. Roland
Do you think a 26L will fit a 16MBP? I'm thinking through the main compartment, not through the laptop side zipper.
Yeah, absolutely
Do you find 26l version to feel small on your back?
Not at all. It felt good.
I feel this model might cannibalize the sales of both Addax and Synapse.
Who would have thought it would be a Tom Bihn that is your new favorite. 🤔
Hey, at least I’m consistent - Roland
Big yes to a 21 litre version

hhmm... doesn't the Brain Bag have an external water bottle pocket?
Do people need to know where the recycled plastic was sourced from? 🤔
Well, yeah. Sometimes.

I'm a pouch guy and I used to go for bags with tons of pockets. Now I opt for simpler packs and I thrive out of pouches. To each their own.
