If anyone is wondering why her dancers are male or male presenting, it’s because she’s fighting against comphet which is what this song is about. Chappell’s a creative genius. I love her.
I took it as because Joan of Arc led an army of men- there's a part of the set where she orders them around, makes them stand up straight, etc like she's their commander.

I was so confused about the VMAs. Granted I haven’t watched them in about a decade and only did since I was stuck in a hotel room this year but it was strange how few rewards were actually televised during the event. I could have done without many of the performances and would have preferred to hear artists accepting awards.
I guess since we don’t have MTV anymore, they decided to move the videos to the stage lol 😬. I really see your point tho

This was def the first year where there was barely any awards i feel like, and more performances. They showed a lot of people winning off screen and i don't understand why? and there was no drama. it WAS boring

Katy Perry's performance deserves a reaction. Every single magazine and article named it the best or one of the best of the night. And it truly is. It is easily one of the best in VMAs history. Not just for Video Vanguard winners, but in general.
Lisa also did amazing, with Sabrina's (and ofc Katy's), top 3 of the night for sure. (Chappel is a solid 4th, i needed just a bit more towards the end, but the first half/third is a gag for sure)

If you’re talking about “Expresso”, it won under the category “Song of the year” not “Song of the summer”.
