- Are your miter saw (chop saw) cuts ragged? Did you buy a model without a laser? Well, you're in luck because you can massively improve your saw by adding a high quality blade and installing a 3rd party laser!
I start by replacing the stock blade on a DeWalt DW715 12" miter saw with a Freud Diablo D12100X (100 tooth finish blade). Then I install an Oshlun LG-M01 laser guide and run a few tests.

Thanks for the video! I've wanted to switch out my dewalt blade for some time and I did not know I could add a laser! Thank you!
That’s what I did I put in a full curve Diablo and it’s a Night and Day and that’s what somebody told me and then you take the Dewalt blade that’s thin and take it down and get it sharpened and then it’s ultra sharp and whenever you need to do cuts, and some other material Then use the Dewalt blade but that’s what somebody told me an advice. The Diablo is superior and the full curve it doesn’t flex or anything and cuts like butter and it’s still sharp and I’ve cut a lot of pressure-treated wood. He doesn’t even look like the saw cut it anyway, so that was my advice.
Excellent video and very helpful. Thank you for sharing.
Great Tip on the lazer! Amazon Oshlun LG-M01 2 day ship under $30. Ebay even less. Fast for tired eyes.
Thanks for the video!... I just purchased a Dewalt DWS779 12" sliding dual-bevel compound miter saw instead of taking a large risk on harbor freight's made-in-china junk. Due to Lowe's incompetent workers, I was told that I was getting a saw with a laser but got it home, unpackaged it, and then found out it doesn't. Harbor Freight's Chicago Electric 12" sliding compound miter saw has a laser and the laser itself got pretty good reviews but the saw has too many issue with accuracy due to them having been manufactured under at least 4 different model numbers and at numerous different factories whereby the door was left WIDE OPEN to inconsistencies in quality materials and production techniques....and yeah I don't really need a laser since I can pull the blade down and line up the cut but there are times that I'm cutting boards that don't need as much accuracy and so a laser would be nice to just pull the trigger, see the laser line, and then make the cut.
great advice. I didnt know tht were add on lasers. Will buy one on my next trip to thr US
If you're from Canada you can get them on Amazon Canada: www.amazon.ca/Oshlun-LG-M01-Miter-Portable-Laser/dp/B002PMV4UG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1476818589&sr=8-1&keywords=Oshlun+LG-M01+Miter
The link you provided for Amazon.com wants 32.00 and then whatever shipping costs will then make you pay much more on top of an already-higher-priced item than what you can get on Ebay for 24.00 and free shipping. Amazon isn't like it used to be....EASILY 9 times out of 10 we can now get the exact same brand new item on Ebay for much less money!
Great video. Helped me decide. Thank you
Thanks for the vid.
Anyone know where I can get one in the uk? Not many ship to the uk and if they do shipping costs more then the washer
Even the easiest projects turn into a major project!
Nice clear and useful Video Thanks
One thing you forgot to do;
Make a 'Zero Clearance' insert for the saw base.
Agreed! I still haven't made one, though. I'll probably make one when I make my next batch for my table saw. Maybe make a zero clearance fence replacement, too...
How to work on big cutter
I just tried putting this laser guide on my new 12" DeWalt miter saw and it fit loose on the bolt next to the blade. Did yours fit snug or was it loose. I'm afraid it would be dangerous if it's not tight.
It's definitely supposed to be snug. It turns on via centrifugal force when the guide spins and that requires it to be tight to the blade so that they spin at the same time. A loose guide might not spin enough to even turn on.
Good video I think I would like like to try a laser. My first miter saw is coming tomorrow
making a zero clearance for the back wall and the bottom of the saw would prevent chip out you can use a normal blade or something alone side of a 40-60 tooth and it would not give you chip out ...specially going to extreme 100 tooth is not needed and would waste to much money for cutting lots of lumber and 2x4 type projects so to me i would rather use that 100 tooth blade for projects that be used for the table say instead of miter saw projects such as plywood or nice wood type slabs and such.
How do you make a zero clearance fence for anything other than 90 degree cuts?
Those screws on the side.. mine are stuck and Now Striped lol.. any Suggestions?
+jasonHadley420 Try to spray WD-40 underneath the bolt head as much as possible. Then get a pair of Vice Grips (or other locking pliers) and adjust it to be just a hair smaller than the bolt head. When you clamp the pliers on the bolt, it will "bite" into the softer metal and hold it very firmly. You should then be able to turn the bolt, given enough leverage.
Thanks Im going to try in the Morning
will this work with a 10" blade? DW703 is what i have
Yes, it should. It isn't specific to the blade size.
Thanks for posting. Would this work on the DW743?
Sorry, I don't know. To tell the truth, until I looked up DW743, I had never even heard of a "flip up" style of saw! I wonder if that's primarily a European thing.
@@granworks Yes. The DewLt D27107 and DW743. They are available in 110v though. Thanks for taking your time to answer me.
Just got it. It worked perfectly. Thanks mate.
Láser name please

This was painful to watch during the blade change..............I was telling him how to change it out loud, like I was next to him....I started laughing at myself , like he hears my instructions? LOL
Where’s the laser?
That's the spinning disc that I install on the side of the blade.
Next time take screw out that's proper way. Juat saying.
Try practicing the take-apart before you actually do the breakdown. It looked so haphazard and painful to watch
Where can we send your refund?
my dad is the patient holder. he sold them units in bulk.
I dont suppose your dad could get a sample to me in the UK as there is a huge issue with underpowered lasers on mitre saws here. I'd also like to see if it fits the Evolution 255mm dual bevel job site mitre saw I currently use daily as my go to site saw as those lasers are next to useless in an outdoor environment. fou can find me via www.handyandyruskington.co.uk
You should rehearse at least before filming.
