8.3 was one of my favourite periods in wow. I agree corruption was underrated, I have fond memories of going pure haste/mastery% on my mm hunter, and being able to hit insane haste numbers with galecallers boon. The ability to feel like you are breaking the game like that is best placed at the end of an expansion cycle.
I didn't care that much about covenants, and never really bothered to switch my conduits, but something I think doesn't get mentioned enough in criticisms of SL was how boring the conduits themselves were. I was playing enh shaman at the time and it was so uninspiring to see "lava lash does % more damage".

  • @Shapingus
    @Shapingus Год назад +3

Great vid, just some things I’ve noticed were missing while I’m still at the 8.3 part:
    - 7.2 solved like 85% of the issue with leg acquisition not just by further BLP and gear to further overpower world tours, but Broken Shore recompense caches had insane leg chances
    - 7.3 invasion points were somehow even better with dropping legs
    - On top of pre-immuning Argus chains, you also pre-died as a raid sans 1 tank up top, and the shaman that was already down there, to take the tree after one of Argus’ chains casts
    - Would deduct points from 8.0 for the removal of gearswapping and the GCD change, along with AP being a longer grind than it was in 7.3
    - 8.2 Benthic gear. Awful, awful, awful rng farm because the tokens were accountwide which meant doing WQs/rares/treasures on every alt for effects that were better than Mythic raid gear
    - 9.0 Target cap and potion changes made M+ stale
    - Not having to do the covenant campaign for renown on alts was a change that took way too long

  • @lancejohnson3278

My biggest counter here is that I really enjoyed the Nazjatar patch as a fairly casual player. There were a lot of meaningful grinds that I got to tie myself up in, it introduced me to the fun of M+, and had a cool raid with amazing trinkets.
In hindsight they couldn’t do half those things again, and I’m way too hardcore now to enjoy engaging with so many of the systems (I don’t know how any mythic guilds were functioning when we can’t even get people to log on for M+ vaults), but I really enjoyed the lore and the zone.

Looking back at Legiondaries to Shitterlands, confirms to me that whatever people complain about in Dragonflight probably doesn't matter. We have nothing anywhere near as egregious as back then, Even if you're into professions and rep grinds in DF, it's still better than those older expansions. It's also interesting to see that Blizzard always managed to make expansions decent by the end - but in DF we just hold steady but kinda mid so far, with the worst move really being the annulet - we all knew trying support was going to get messy, I think it's a price we should be willing to pay for a season honestly.
On mini-raids, I'd actually like to see them do a TBC style, with 2 smaller raids in a tier. Like 2x 5boss raids in different locations with different themes, but both the same ilvl/tier.

i would counter that with this: leveling a class from 0 to max forces you to learn the spells and abilities of the class as you go. If you just "ding" done in an hour, you get a huge dump of stuff at once, making it harder to get a feel for things. How many new fire mages/spriests are there right now that play terribly because they didn't take that time?

Legion is remembered fondly by many because of the amount of content that it had and the introduction of M+, but the systems were imho the worst of all WoW expansions (i.e. the legendaries, the artifact power, the fact that one of the best trinkets of the expansion came from a World Boss, among many other gripes). The dungeon design was good for its time but overall I didn't like them as much as BfA, Shadowlands or Dragonflight dungeons. Nighthold, Trial of Valor and Argus were good raids, Emerald Nightmare and Tomb of Sargeras were boring for me, though the guilds I was in at the time might have contributed to the boredom. I had way more fun in every BfA patch than at any point in Legion.

Legion was the most fun id had playing wow, BC to current, maybe cause i didnt play a mage and thus didnt let one trinket ruin my day.

I normally love playing alts, but in Legion (until 7.2) it felt almost impossible because it seemed too time-consuming to catch them up on artifact power, and also on legendaries unless I was super lucky. N'zoth to S and I agree, have played since vanilla and that is the best of the best time on WoW in every aspect:
PvP, arena was great where RBG not so much.
PvDungeon, raid was very enjoyable as seen as guildless player and M+ was at its peak.
PvWorld, Nightmares was insanely well made and progressed as it was power gated but still doable based on skill.
And every area of the game was rewarding without leaving another in shade.
You were able to go full use of procs from various outside class mechanics OR enhance your class abilities, as your liking as it should be.

The one thing I'd say about WoW is they typically do a great job of ironing out their issues over the course of an expansion, but as you say first impressions are important. I wish they could figure out a way to be at the high level at the start. Dragonflight I've mostly stuck with (even doing Heroic raids and getting AOTC for the first time ever) and that kind of lines up with you putting it and Embers in the B-tier. This was interesting hearing your perspective on it. I think the small raid issue was how fucked uu’nat (spelling) was and not that it was a small raid. That’s actually something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is how much I love multiple raids in a tier. BC, SSC/TK specifically is a great example. Or at least just having a gruul’s, crucible, Ruby sanctum 1/2 boss thing
I just find it far more interesting and I like not having the same igid raid structure and format every tier
I also think these types of small raids should be used as opportunities to get really wild with mechanics. It’s 1 or 2 bosses so if it’s terrible at least it’s not a whole raid and hopefully a good learning experience for mechanics and ideas that may be too left field for a traditional raid
Idk I just hope that the small or single boss raid concept is still on the table for blizz

    9.0 - heavily disagree
yes, covenants stuff was not great, but at the same time it still introduced a lot of new and cool abilities, which a lot of players loved to a point where they got transferred to the talent systems (e.g. kyrian spear for warrior, shifting power for mages, weapons of order for monks etc.)
in addition, torghast was really cool and new experience, dark souls vibe style. even though it was somewhat of a grind, it still was the aspect of the game that is lacking in dragonflgiht, which essentially just went back to raid, m+ and pvp content
Overall, I don't think that the conduit energy restrictions and the covenants stuff was that detrimental to your patch experience unless of course you get hard from simming your character every time you loot a +2 i lvl piece of gear :)

Might be in the minority but I enjoyed artifact weapons and AP (The Legion version of it, not the BfA version of it). And previous tier raids in the same expansion still being relevant for AP and Legendary farming.

It was a really jarring experience for me to come back to WoW in late BfA after not playing since early Cata, and then playing *into* Shadowlands. As bad as BFA and SL were, I still had by far more fun in those 2 than I am so far in DF. All the changes they've made are great, but the outdoor content is all braindead and feels unimportant to do. There are no solo challenges, at least not yet. Also, the theme is not very exciting.
I loved Horrific Visions. I even enjoyed Torghast while it was challenging. Even the Maw was fun for the first month. The Nazjatar and Mechagon zones and meta achievements were very unique and fun to do.

8.3 was the funnist most broken system they ever put out it was awesome. it felt like the entire patch was damage control, like as if they had no idea corruption would be so strong but they're in to deep to nerf it so they just said fuck it and gave us the vendor. playing a broken spec with bis corruption and full mythic gear with sockets is probably the most enjoyment ill ever have in this game.

I agree with almost everything, except for me both dragonflight patches are A+. I wouldn't put them in S because they were still flawed in some ways (bad affixes, mediocre raids, balancing and too easy heroic raids), but the lack of required power grind for pve endgame is a game changer for me. I feels really good to be able to maintain my main and some alts at a decent power without having to spend hours a day doing boring and repetitive mandatory stuff. The revamped professions and talents are also really fun. Dragonflight rules.

It's scary how they thought 9.1 was an acceptable patch. Virtually no collector's content and the new system was shitty tier that everybody knew was going to suck. Tazavesh was fun, but no mythic+ made it dead content after you cleared it. The raid's aesthetic was basically already ready from designing Torghast. Did all the dev time go into making the Painsmith fight be cool?

    Legion :
First raid was the best mood i had in raids ever (loving elf theme)
Second raid was also good alright the gating of Suramar was kind messed up they could've done so much with that zone and the city itself. Still awesome
Last 2 raids seemed meh, especially as a Survival hunter straight up hated by the community and then Blizzard adding a forced Raptor Strike into the rotation, although the simple Mongoose Bite spamming was alright as a rotation, just needed the Fury of the Eagle to be buffed or modified as a finisher like the Fury Warrior. And they also dared nerfing our only good secondary ability Fire bomb just because of PvP... Heart broken.
After that the other two expansion in between were just meh, playable but just meh. When the setting of the expansion doesn't give you magic you just don't want to play at all. At least for me.
I still keep fond memories of Legion despite of the farm and the random Leggo drops. I just wish i could've tried more classes/specs (Only had a BDK on the side)

Beginning of Legion and BFA are F-. The sheer magnitude of the player unfriendly systems in Legion, the grind, the RNG, bricking your main with Legendaries. There is no universe in which 7.0 is not the worst patch of all-time. It was abysmal.
8.0 had many of the same problems, RNG, grind, player unfriendliness... but it also introduced the GCD changes, Azerite Armor, and had 2 dud systems in Warfronts and Islands. Also an abysmal patch.
Agree that nothing since Legion has been an S-tier patch. Argus/7.3 was *close* but not quite there.
