I remember being afraid of Malcolm when I was a child because I had always heard horrible things about him. At 23 I picked up the Autobiography of Malcom X and the man became my hero. A shining example of true manhood. I watched the series and was in awe. I hope there is another portion to this series. Simply incredible.
Damn same thing. I believed the fear mongering until I read the book. Then you see a man who was searching for truth and justice until his end. He was willing to change. That's what was most powerful to me was his ability to find the truth, as best he could and preach it. And not stick to antiquated beliefs that he didn't hold any more for the publics sake

I was lucky the elementary school I went to in the late 80s early 90s had a picture of him on the wall and it was something about that picture that stuck out to me but the teachers never talked about him it was MLK for them because they came out of the south and older black people that I've talked said Malcolm scared them because no black man had ever talked about white people like that not openly..... In 92 when the movie came out it totally changed my world I was a black boy who had heard nothing but negative things about myself from my hair to my dark skin but from that point on Malcolm X become my teacher everything I can find on him I read or watch

Malcolm X after he left the nation. I am and always will be a Muslim. My religion is Islam. I still believe that Mr. Muhammad’s analysis of the problem is the most realistic, and that his solution is the best one. This means that I too believe the best solution is complete separation, with our people going back home, to our own African homeland.

Karen Hunter, you need to have Dr Jared Ball back on to discuss the problem of this documentary. The documentary was a complete mis characterization of Malcolm X and his politics. Dr. Ball helped write a book, that countered the logic of these academics behind this documentary.
After the recent stories on Malcolm X and the FBI and NYPD total involvement of which the Nation always maintained their innocence. It is interesting, how past shows like this will not be revisited these types of Narratives rarely are cleaned up after the truth came out to say otherwise. I must admit that this Jr story surprised me this is the first time that I have ever hear of this? story.
BTW!! The Nation did NOT put Malcolm out!! Malcolm took himself out and when he realized that he had no platform and the very few that followed him, he tried to come back!

There were literally thousands of members in Michigan alone before Elijah Muhammad was jailed (twice) along with many of the early followers. By the time he came out of prison the Nation had been reduced in numbers significantly. Malcolm went into the cities/places that Elijah Muhammad had already seeded and taught while he was on "the run" and revitalized those Temples and communities. There was no one more effective at that than Malcolm.The NOI was really thrust into the national spotlight after "The Hate That Hate Produced" aired on TV. THAT is when the regrowth began. Also, the NOI was actually at its apex in the years after Malcolm. Late 60s to 1975.

Omar Shabazz has done several Malcolm X documentaries actually the Netflix Malcolm X documentary took a lot of information from Omar Shabazz
El Hajj Malik El Shabazz. His name was no longer Malcom X
