I won the Merc Jet at Gaming Vs Cancer last year and when the new Invisible Plane came out I thought it would be fun to play for it by only playing planes. Problem was it was a theme team event so I had the difficult task of building a Vehicle theam team. I was hoping Overdrive or Warlock would have it but they don't. Fortunately the Quinjet has autopilot and I used the Deadshot from Joker's Wild who can gain keywords to pilot the Merc Jet. I think I lost every game as they're both really team-oriented pieces that don't play great separately (the Quinjet taking damage after every attack didn't help), but it was pretty cool just having two jets on the map
Amaziiiiing! Thank you very much!! I’m a new player (3months) and hadn’t really understood this mechanic (which sucks btw, since I pulled the Robin chase from EW) All in all, welcome back teacher. You’ve been missed!
Looked up vehicle rules on your channel, and was so happy your example was the Merc Jet/Deadpool! As this is exactly what I was running at game night tonight. Thank you! :)
I'm surprised you didn't feature overdrive's charged up and Carrie Kelly's batwing/batcycle bystander vehicles. I've had a few players have questions on those and how they function. Great and informative as always Teach
great video! im a fan of using the sky cycle with hawkeye...the last time i played i used the hawkeye from the captain america civil movie set and gave the sky cycle his energy explosion which was amazing because that hawkeye has the SHIELD keyword so i paired him up with agent venom OP prize figure and then had druid give agent venom his magic bullet power...total blast!
It's on the list. There are quite a few topics to cover, of course. My Patreon patrons get to vote on the priority. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Are vehicles able to carry characters of different sizes? (Ex: Tiny, Giant, Colossal)... And if so, is there a limit on how many characters of different size outside of standard that a vehicle can carry? Like in a scenario can a vehicle carry 2 giant/colossal characters at once, or 2 tiny, 1 giant, 1 colossal, etc.
Auto pilot and piloted, do you swap between dials as they become either piloted or on auto? Or do you just pick which dial you’re using at the beginning of the game?
Got another one for you, if you could please: Jakeem Thunder is being possessed by Ion. Jakeem Thunder chose steal energy from his power and outwit from Ion. JK outwitted a characters impervious, hit with an attack, healed, moved Ion's dial and chose outwit again. Is the opposing characters defense still outwitted?
No. The power, Outwit, choosen from Ion is lost when the dial is clicked and you do not choose until after the dial has been clicked. There is a slight gap there during which Outwit is lost. And when outwit is lost it's effect end immediately.
thanks for the video, a question about carry ability, can a colossal with the wing symbol carry 2 characters? one by the inherent carry ability and another by the passenger ability by the wing symbol?
No. The inherent carry ability doesn't allow for a second character to be carried; it just means every character can carry a smaller one, in essence. A colossal with the wing symbol can carry one character: a smaller one with any speed symbol, or a colossal one that doesn't have the wing symbol.
Thanks a lot for this! By the way, my favorite one is the Invisible Jet (Unless there was a Black Bird in the game, that would be another story! LOL) I would really like a How to play video for Tittle Characters! I found them confusing some times!
Glad you enjoyed the video. I'll put the Title Characters on the list... I'll be working on ID Cards and Shape Change for now, though. I love the Invisible Plane (the Invisible Jet was used in a Batman set a while back) with the Wonder Woman Barn map that's available in the Elseworlds Starter Set.
Question: how does Rachel Cole alves special abilities interact with the punisher van when she is a) adjacent when punisher is driving and b) when she is the pilot? Her power grants her and an adjacent character one of multiple standard powers such as ranged combat expert, etc. Thank you!
When Rachel is the pilot, she's off the map, so the "I brought the armory, Frank" trait does not work (no character can be adjacent to her while she's off the map). In a scenario where she's adjacent to a piloted vehicle, the trait works as it usually does; the vehicle can use the "second power" as long as Rachel is adjacent. The Blades/Claws/Fangs possibility is weird, but legal. Personally, I would make it so vehicles, in general, couldn't attack adjacent characters (like the Pym Particle Tank) except with RAM or some other ability specific to a vehicle, but that's just me (not a rule). Hope that helps!
Under the new rules a multi-base character can occupy multiple elevations if it has the wing symbol. And the new vehicle rules, which do apply to older vehicles instead of the rules on their cards, does not say that vehicles must occupy terrain of the same elevation. So older vehicles wih the wing symbol can occupy multiple elevations.
TheSushiandme How hard did you find playing. I want to get into this, but find it very hard to understand exactly how to play. I've heard that a lot of people don't really like this because of all the rules powers and traits to remember.
Chris Schelstraete it has its learning curve. Took me about 5 weeks of constantly reading and watching youtube to understand. Faster with a friend. Game isn't too hard to learn.
I'm confused at 4:15. You say autopilot vehicles take damage from any action, even free. But on screen and on the rules I have it says when they make an attack only. Isn't it only for attacking?
2017 rules: A vehicle with the Autopilot keyphrase is dealt the 1 unavoidable damage when it is given any type of action. This includes FREE actions and actions given “at no cost”, p.12
I feel like you emphasised that pilots get taken off the map, does this mean things that say "for the rest of the game, as long as this character is on the map, this effect happens" would stop if they were to pilot the vehicle?
If an effect requires for a character to be on the map (as opposed to on the Sideline or off the map), it won't be active when that character is removed from the map. That's why I like to use Peace Machine as a Pilot; when it's my turn, he's a pilot and can deal as much damage as I want, but I try and eject him from the pilot's seat before the end of my turn (if actions and tokens allow) so my opponent cannot deal more than 3. Mouhahahaha!
im still wondering what how the autopilot trait affects older vehicles like the Batwing. can it be piloted at its lower "autopilot" cost (72pts) or must it be at its higher cost (144pts) in order to be piloted?
I can't say I'm sure what the official answer is on that, but I would consider autoplioted Batwing to have the same kind of trait the autoplioted Pym Particle Tank has: This vehicle can't have a pilot. Since both vehicles have distinct dials for the autopilot mode, that's how I would call it.
aceoswords older autopiloted vehicles can have a pilot just as any other vehicle. However they have been given errata to give them a trait that makes them take 1 unavoidable when an action resolves during which it made an attack.
Johan Karlsson Thanks! Glad you looked it up. The new vehicle rules are in the Comprehensive rules and apply to all vehicles. What I was referencing, though, is whether or not you could have pilot on and older vehicle used on its autopilot dial. The Pym Particle Tank has an autopilot dial and it does not allow a pilot when used on that dial. I would think that the older « audopilot-dial » vehicles would behave the same way. What’s your take on this? (Perhaps there an answer to this on the WIzKids forum... no time to check now)
That is what I was talking about. The older vehicles use the new and updated vehicle rules. And, unlike the old rules, the new rules does not differentiate between the piloted and autopiloted dials when it comesto having a pilot. So therefore the old autopiloted dials can have a pilot.
Tallen Smith good question. Can a pick a power character pick a power while piloting and if they do do the receive damage from that f****** Darwin character while piloting?
They do (pilots clear). And piloting does not "hide" you from Darwin. The ability to pick a power is usually not tied to being on the map, so, unless there's something on the rules forum that says otherwise, I see no reason why a Pilot could not pick a power if the character can usually do so.
Characters off the map clears as normal. However while they're off te map they cannot trigger or activate any of their powers or abilities. Except for effects tht specifically states that they work while the character is off the map. There are some exceptions to this. E.g. an activated/triggered effect with a duration will continue as normal if it was activated/triggered before the character was removed from the map. So the pick a power charater could continue to use a chosen power for the remainder of the duration while it is off the map, ut it cannot pick a new one. See the page 8 of the Comprehensive Rulebook Supplemenet for more info on characters off the map.
I played Overdrive this past weekend and had a question. I give Overdrive a Power Action to become the pilot of his vehicle. When he exits the vehicle, whether it explodes or through other means, does Overdrive still have the action token on him that he got when he entered the vehicle? Since he's off the board as the pilot, does he clear action tokens at the end of turns?
as far as im aware the pilot would still have the action token...since they are being the pilot they are technically off that map and therefore are unable to clear action tokens because they are not on the map during the clear phase of the turn...i could be wrong on this but im almost positive thats how its always been ruled...thats why its so critical to roll high with overdrive that way he has the click to be able to push in order to recreate his vehicle...
The pilot would clear at the end of the round. Comprehensive Rulebook page 4 states: "Characters off the map but still on your force must also clear their action tokens."
Hello, can you please help with this....NFAOS Hulk 052 has Indestructible Hulk which says: When this click is revealed due to taking damage stop turning the dial. When Hulk would be dealt damage, roll a d6 that can't be rerolled. This power can't be countered or ignored. 1-2 He can use Invulnerability. 3-4 He can use Invincible. 5-6 Ignore the damage dealt. Will the Hulk roll but still take damage from pulse wave? It seems obvious to me but a customer is adamant he would roll but still take damage. Any help would be appreciated. Show less
"This power can't be ignored" has been errata'd to mean "Protected: Puse Wave". So Pulse Wave's "can't use" does not affect that power or any powers that it grants. So not only does he get to roll. He also get to use the reducer granted by that roll.
Do vehicles have willpower how does that work because you would think that they run on fuel so they really don't have stamina to be burnt out like characters
Jack Keend, I know... Your comment makes perfect sense. When I first introduced vehicles in my games, I just assumed the vehicle symbol granted Willpower. It feels right, but it isn’t. The pushing mechanic is often more about game balance than real-life accuracy. Short answer: no, vehicles do not automatically have willpower. It’s just how it is.
Okay cuz if you look at the new player handbook you have the regular shield and then a line and then indomitable shield and then the steering wheel which would make you think that it does have indomitable but yeah I guess that makes sense considering the only vehicle that I can think of is I believe thanos's chair and it has power Cosmic and then the only other vehicle which isn't really a vehicle but kind of is the Hulkbuster Mark 2 and then it has an indomitable Shield but it spits out Iron Man at the end can you think of any others

William Dickey they're basically the same
Indeed. Overdrive creates a vehicle out of a standard object, and Robin spawns a vehicle. But the same vehicle rules apply.

My favorite is Captain America's Motorcycle. Low points. Extends the life of a Cap quite a bit while giving him a big charge.
My favorite vehicle is the Turtle Van. It's such an awesome throwback to the cartoon show. Which is a good pilot for it on a TMNT Ally team?
Space Leo and Turtle Van..... amazing
Turtle van is making its way to me in the mail. What experience do you have?
Thanks for the introduction!
Welcome Back! Great video as always :)
Another great video, very informative.
Overdrive's charged up js the favorite vehicle for modern... Before the blackbird. 😁
Welcome back! Did you mention vehicles can carry fliers?
Yes, they can. It's a big plus.
Great video! If the vehicle ejects the pilot, does the character retain the action token it took when it became the pilot?
triruns A character that is off the map still clears as normal. So if it hasn't cleared it will still have the token when returning to the map.
That's awesome, great knowledge. If you haven't already can you do one on small and colossal characters or characters that have colossal abilities.?
It's on the list. There are quite a few topics to cover, of course. My Patreon patrons get to vote on the priority. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Keep these great videos coming!
Its been a while teach😄I dont have vehicles but its fun to watch stuff about Something from heroclix
I've been (and still am) very busy with the store opening and all. I hope to eventually make as many videos as I did.
makes sense..stil nice to have a new Video :)

can an ejected character make a costed action on the same turn?
Yup. When the pilot is ejected, it is "placed" (which is different from being carried).
