Too add on to this theory, Alice Mcbride said that nobody knows No-Barks actual name as it was forgotten. This could be because of player choice in naming their character.
Interesting. I've also seen a theory or two that postulates the Courier may be the chosen one's grand kid. So here you are with no memory of your past cause you got shot in the head and you run into your senile grandpa at some motel settlement in the Mojave! Nether one of you can remember but you keep going back to talk to him and play cards with your grandpa.

The Bozar is sold by the Vender robot in the Gun Runner's building outside of Vegas. Maybe one of the guards there is the Chosen One because that weapon was also in Fallout 2. You think that's stupid? Well of course it is, just like how people thinking the Chosen One and No-Bark are the same person just because of a stupid gun that's sold in a store by someone else. And that crashed car outside of Novac could easily just be an easter egg.
My headcanon for no bark being the chosen one is this: After destroying the oil rig and finding the GECK No-bark decided to travel the wasteland with his highwayman saying farewell to his tribe. On his journey through the wasteland he accidentally crashed his highwayman into the bog and was surrounded by radscorpions being stuck in his car where at which point he was repeatedly stung in the skull. Luckily one of Novac’s residents noticed this and helped him escape the scorpions somehow saving his life. Due to the multiple stings he lost his memory and everyone decided to keep it a secret from outsiders so they’d think he’s crazy. That is my headcanon.
Then it's wrong. The ending slides say that the choosen one becomes the elder. Not much of an elder if he just randomly disapears for no reason. The choosen one literally spent years of his life to get the GECK and destroy the Enclave. He isn't just randomly leaving when Arroyo just is starting to get back on its feet.
Chosen One, that had Power Armor and most powerful weapons in F2 could be beaten by radscorpions? Well, not possible? End-game F2 character is able to kill 2-4 radscorpions (depending on build) per turn and caries a lot of chems, antidotes etc. Before anyone says that Power armor person would not fit in the car: he was fitting in F2, and carry weight of that car was crazy, you could carry all Power Armors in the game and tons of other stuff. I wonder why people forget that there were probably more cars than the Highwaymen of Chosen One. There was literally a garage that they were fixing cars near New Reno, so automatically there were many working cars, only just used by very few, I assume that New Reno could have like 10-20 cars at least if there was a garage.
There's a theory I read a few years back that No-Bark is the last survivor of Vault 11. The one that didn't commit suicide like the other few people that were left. It's probably not likely that this is the case, but it's still a neat theory.
Abi There were thousands of people in the vault. They did once every year until it became a monthly ordeal for them after some conspiracies happened. I wouldnt use the bodies as a reference for counting years.
Yeah the voice actor is the same, and that is definitely a very compelling piece of evidence for this argument. The one big problem I have with this theory is that based on the number of skeletons in the sacrificial chamber in Vault 11, it doesn't seem like the vault lasted that long after it was sealed shut (there's about two dozen skeletons in there) and because of the fact that one person was sacrificed to the vault's mainframe every year, that seems to indicate that the vault didn't last more than a few decades at most. F:NV takes place in 2281, so if No-Bark was the last survivor of Vault 11, that would easily make him over 150 years old. Now granted, this is pure speculation because we don't have any concrete evidence regarding how long Vault 11 lasted (for example, the skeletons of dozens of people sacrificed to the vault could have been completely disintegrated by the security robots in the chamber, which would certainly skew current estimations of how long the vault lasted) or how long after the Vault 11 rebellion the last survivor decided to leave the vault. And I get it, there's multiple instances of people surviving longer than 150 years, whether through ghoulification or some bizarre unconventional means, but I just don't quite buy No-Bark being the last survivor of Vault 11. I feel like, even with extremely conservative estimations, the events of Vault 11 probably occurred at least over a century ago, and I just don't buy No-Bark as being that old. But then again, there are crazier less-rational batshit insane things that have happened in the wasteland, so I'm not sure.
I don't think C6 is in any way related to CO or VD. Vic was selling V13 bottles in Fo2 so it is safe to say that they were passed around the wasteland quite a bit. The only confirmed person that is related to CO/VD and alive in FNV is Mr. Bishop (mentioned only). VanBuren is the game that never came to be (was meant to be Fo3) but FNV borrows heavily from the established VanBuren lore (e.g. war between NCR and BoS, you also help Joshua Graham in VanBuren and encounter Legion as it was forming). In that game you play as a prisoner number 13 (so you have a 13 on your jumpsuit). My running theory is that C6 is related to Prisoner 13 as FNV takes place 30 years after the events of VB.
To be honest. Marcus's presence is the thing that destroys this theory for me. Marcus was on black mountain. Not so far from novac. I dont think they would put them both in the same region. Marcus would recognize him instantly,it simply wouldnt make sense. Actually what i say myself makes even less sense considering they would have no way of meeting but i just dont see the devs doing a thing like that y'know.
Maybe Marcus was also told by NoBark to hide his identity and just say to people that he went off into the mountains? This is of course under the assumption that NoBark is actually the Chosen One.
you forget that the new vegas map is definitely waaayy smaller and downsized in comparison to how it actually would be in the lore. vegas itself is only one street with a few casinos, with barely any houses for people to actually live? i mean i know it's called the strip but c'mon, it's definitely canonically way bigger.
@@McDiezel079 They still called themselves the Enclave before the bombs dropped while the group ran Poseidon energy. Edit: I know it's a mistake but I love that Pew-war. It's adorable in a good way.
This seems too far-fetched to me. From a meta perspective, if Obsidian did put the Chosen One as a character in the game, it would shatter the ability of players to roleplay throughout the games even further than their canon already has. It is generally thought of as respectful to the players of an RPG to not force a specific character archetype on them if it can be avoided. When they make a new game, they can't avoid canonizing some of the player choices, because it is needed to make a timeline. But they could definitely avoid putting him in as a crazy old dude with a secret identity. It would be in poor taste to make this kind of easter egg. The location of the Highwayman can be thought of as a coincidence. They could have easily put it near Primm, Nipton, etc. Just about everything else in the video is wild speculation based off the wackiest guy in Novac.
@@CrizzyEyes Exactly! It would be a terrible idea for an RPG game to bring back the protagonist from a previous entry. What kind of game would you even end up with? ::Narrows eyes at Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel.::
I feel as if No-Bark being the chosen one could be some sort of cut content, or he is but they didn't have enough time to add more to him to even possibly tell the courier he was the chosen one, or hints at it big time.
@@jerm70 The car and That Gun are both definite references to Fallout 2. This in addition to No-Bark's references to creatures only present in OG fallout, communism(which only the Enclave know about), his unexplainable wealth and his mental decline due to being stung multiple times by Radscorpions(which is only something an explorer could really suffer from) are all big signs he is the Chosen One. True it doesn't prove it 100%, but No-Bark definitely isn't just some crazy old man. The idea he somehow amassed an incredible fortune and obtained such forgotten knowledge while living his whole life in Novac as the residents explain, doesn't add up whatsoever.
In Fallout 2, you can employ a little person to help you dig up treasure in a well at Broken Hills but the treasure ends up being a stupid huge amount of caps. Chosen has no use for them at the time since they use gold coins in Fallout 2 but Chosen still keeps them and saves them until they become valuable again
100 IQ is dead average, for the record. Definitionally so because whatever the average score is gets set to 100 as a means of standardization, and whatever the standard deviation is gets set to 15. Anyway what I love about this theory is that it's the kind of wacky bullshit No-bark would come up with.
this is and interesting theory but honestly i think he was just a character that was added to references to fallout 2 the radscorpions link in my opinion is very loose the caps could have just been the devs making him stranger than he his and the enclave propaganda i think is there to further reference fallout 2 and the story about him living there just makes sense if he had crashed the car he would have just repaired it or just left it plus it adds nice decor and give a more wasteland-ish so it would make sense design wise and if they wanted to add the chosen one I think they would have given him a bigger role or i could be being an idiot and none of this makes sense and i could just be assuming the devs intentions inaccurately who knows only the devs and the devs won't saying
There are plenty of similarly wrecked cars all across the Mojave, I think making it a marked, discoverable location with a name that directly references the vehicle in fallout 2 shows their intention pretty clearly. Fallout games are full of hidden references, and they like to draw players to stories and conclusions through environmental storytelling, item placement, and small, key lines of dialogue. The fact that a team comprised of a lot of the people who worked on FO2 worked on NV as well, make it totally plausible that they would hide this character behind references only extreme fallout fans would notice. Plus, when the game director for FNV (Josh sawyer) released a mod overhaul for the game, making it more true to his original vision that was heavily rushed, he added a vault 13 jumpsuit in the trunk of the wrecked highwayman, which is about as clear a statement you can make without directly stating he’s the protagonist, in my opinion. We can never 100% know the devs’ intentions without their saying one way or the other, of course.
I tend to agree, because it would be in poor taste to force a "kooky old guy" archetype on the players if they had already played Fallout 2. They avoided doing this to the Vault Dweller in FO2, so I would assume they would avoid including the Chosen One in New Vegas. Most RPG developers try to leave references to previous player characters vague so players can maintain their roleplaying. The Highwayman would certainly be something put into the game, but I think some members of the community are reading too deeply into how it is located.
@@CrizzyEyes yeah I think most things supporting the theory are just references and nods and not actual evidence and, correct me if I'm wrong, but Chryslus Highwayman was the model of car and not what the Chosen One named it so if there were a crashed Highwayman I'd figure it to just be a little nod and not hard evidence that the Chosen One decided to live the rest of his life in Novac and went insane rather than just doing other things with his life
Ya know this reminds me of another theory that states the courier is a descendant of the chosen one I like to believe this because it gives a few reasons for some dialogue options and the dlc which gives the vault 13 armoured jumpsuit, the vault 13 canteen, and the withered 10mm pistol.

Finaly a video about the chosen one No-bark theory. I love this theory almost as much as No-bark Noonan himself. And I'm so glad I now know It's even more plausible than I thought. Though there are 3 more things you could have mentioned. There's also a notable moment in Fallout 2 where the chosen one is attacked by a rad scorpion. That has been experimented on to be super intelligent and even able to talk. Which he could be refering to when No-bark talks about being stung in the head by a rad scorpion. There's also a moment early on in Fallout 2 where the chosen one can mistakenly believe someone is offering to teach him magic. Maybe because of the rad scorpion poison hes confusing it with his memory of talking it's a of talking to the hyper intelligent molerat. And if you Break into his home he'll say something about you trying to steal some kind of antique. Which could be a reference to the chosen one trying to convince Myron to make an antidote for jet addiction. Maybe you could make a follow up video talking about these things and any more evidence you or someone else can find.
Another fun easter egg, but when you find the wrecked highwayman for the first time, the highwayman car theme from fallout 2 starts to play. Gave me chills, one of the best music clips in the game.
Now I wish Nobark gave a quest reward where a random skill is leveled by 13 or something. Showing not only is he secretly skilled in everything but also you know 13.
If anyone has any feedback then let me know, you can be brutally honest, especially if you're thinking of disliking this video, let me know what I need to work on as this is my first video!
Ok so I was gonna correct you on "That Gun" because it's 5.56 in FNV instead of .223 then fact checked myself and found out that 5.56x45mm and .223 Remington are nearly identical. Still an odd choice considering that .223 is in FNV and I feel like you shoulda mentioned it, but oh well. The point I wanted to make anyway was just to make sure you pay attention to detail and mention valid counterarguments, even if you proceed to dismiss them. I feel it always enriches theories like this. Looking forward to see what you make in the future, keep it up!
Love it! ❤ Now I can definitely understand half of this just because I stumbled across half of what you put out here during my travels playing fallout new Vegas. These are all well thought out and well explained that I think fit very well together to explain this character.
The last part, about everyone saying he grew up there (and older people living in the town to back it up) is why I don't think that this theory is definitely true.
Maybe everyone thinks No-Bark came from Novac because he's actually been there longer than anyone else currently in town. Also, one minor note, you mention that he's "100 IQ", but that's actually meant to be the standard for IQ tests―anything less is supposed to be below average, and anything higher is above. I don't put stock in IQ tests, but 100 is a supremely _average_ score, not a high one
@@jeremymyotte1386 98 is the average IQ in the united states As chompy said, 100 would be absolutely average, just slightly above it. In any case, chompy is still right, 100 IQ isn't genius levels.
This is why other than fallout 4 new vegas, I’m most excited for project arroyo, I can’t convince myself to learn how to play the old games but the second games story sounds both bonkers and amazing
A little late, but the chosen one unlike The Lone Wanderer is not a local legend in Tactics(not officially cannon I know) the NCR erected a solid gold statue of him He’s a national relic that any personage with NCR affiliation would know of. They probably all have seen a photo of him, have documentation of his life that if No-bark had a million to one chance of being him it’s not like no one would notice
Given the fact that the car is close to helios one and hidden valley it wouldn't be a stretch to think the brotherhood seen the vehicle thinking they needed to secure it shot at it causing a explosion but once having a closer look found the person driving it had a holo tag from the BOS back in f2 realizing that they probably left him alone after that
I feel like *can be is a better way to phrase this. As depending on what type of character you make your chosen one, or even if they are female, can discredit this theory. But if you play a male Chosen One that would have eventually left New Arroyo in search of new adventure, then yeah.
I mean, by the statue of Shady Sands in FO2, we see how it is assumed that the Vault Dweller is male, so no stretch of the imagination to think they did the same with the Chosen One.
No bark my favourite charecter, athough he seem crazy he actually knows more then he should, bieng right about nearly everything, heck him talking to the teddy bear with a hidden microphone, saying he know the true form, meaning he knows it not a teddy bear, combine with him summarising the why the ghouls left which is 100% correct. He knows a lot, and although he seem crazy, he is very smart and perceptive, giving us the clue that the culpit to kidnapping boone wife talked to the legion.
Holy fuck see I've been playing New Vegas for years since It came out I have done almost every weapon run for every faction beaten the game with almost every combination of micro faction and major ones I have beaten every side quests I have seen , but this is the first time I saw this theory and dude it makes so much sense. Definitely going to sub your a god for showing me this.
If no bark is actually the chosen one, it would be awesome if you could help him restore his memory by bringing a sequence of items to him including having your dog rex with you during that Things that could happen, you get a perk called passing the torch, could have him as a companion, could also randomly show up in important quests to help save the day and your life Could also have been allowed to come with you on honest hearts and lonesome road.
I've been looking into this theory for a while now and will be referencing this video in my upcoming special on the topic - great job man. I notice you only have a few videos but you made a couple interesting points in this video I hadn't heard of yet. Good job.
I know im a bit late, but im pretty sure with console commands you can learn other creatures stats, (I play on xbox, so i wouldnt know) and i just had a theory, if naming yourself noonan and using no-barks stats would create some encounter or dialogue in fallout 2. I do know that vegas came out after 2, but this could have been a predetermined easter egg. I will begin researching this, perhaps we can find more connections!
I dont think no bark is the chosen one, just cause some of these are kinda loose. Like why would he have to pay the town of nipton to keep his identity quiet, if he doesn't remember it himself? Also they wouldn't even know him, as NV is plenty far away for him to not be recognized, and even after becoming a famous porn star only people in New reno know who he is by face alone. I do like the idea that he came out here after crashing his car, being one of the only working cars to be seen in the series, but just that alone doesn't work. Also the aliens bit doesn't make sense, cause patterns or black and white had nothing to do with detection in the infested cave. Although you could argue that was him just being crazy at this point and remembering it wrong. Also about the caps, I'm pretty sure in fallout 2 there's an actual mission where someone tells you there's money in a well, and you dig it up just to find out its caps and not cash (but I could be remembering it wrong), so why would he have caps on him? Like I said, I like the idea of him crashing his car out here, and it being a refrence to the chosen one, but I just dont think the chosen one is no bark. All in all though, good video! I love the idea that maybe we could find older main characters out here just kinda vibing. Do you have any other theories youre working on?
No, you're correct. In Fallout 2, they don't use bottle caps as currency anymore since the NCR, New Reno, and Vault City have started using stamped coins and printed bills. In the quest you're referring to with the well treasure, when the chosen one finds the caps at the bottom, the item description says: " These are worthless bottle caps. You've heard that at one time they were used as money, though you suspect its only a story." I don't think the theory holds too much water either, to be honest. Fun idea though!
You mean Typhon, right? Yeah, that's exactly what I was talking about in my comment. You help him find a stash of treasure, but it turns out to be bottlecaps. 10,000 though, not 1,000,000. That'd be pretty wack, lol. I don't think Bottlecaps would ever blow up again in California as long as the NCR is still a powerhouse, so I'm not sure why he would decide to lug them around for so long. Your comment got me thinking though: How much would all those caps weigh? According to a couple sources I found, one tin bottle cap weighs 2.22 grams. So... 10,000 BC = 22,200 Grams, or 48.9 Lbs. Heavy, but not too bad. 1,000,000 BC = 2,220,000 Grams, or 4894.2 Lbs. Woof.
I always liked the theory that NoBark is the only remaining survivor of Vault 11, and the experiences he had are what drove him crazy. Also believable considering how close the vault is to Novac.
That gun is indeed a reference to the fallout 1 and 2 pistol. But they actually called it that gun because the fallout 1 and 2 pistol was so common everyone just called it that gun. Still I didn't even think that no bark could have brought it to Novac
I used to headcanon that the top Ranger Hanlon was the Chosen One, and that the Courier was raised by Arch Dornan in the Divide, and the guys in Riot Armor were actually Enclave remnants under his command called “Archers”
If he is the chosen one and is truly trying to living the rest of his days out in peace. I wonder where he stashed that Advanced power armor he got from the enclave. Maybe it’s stashed somewhere for the next adventure who knows
Fascinating video. It seemed rather well put together in my opinion, as with every potential piece of evidence highlighted in the video, you actually elaborated and explained why and how it could possibly be related (you know, like a credible arguement would). I would certainly be interested in watching related videos, particularly about Fallout 1 & 2, as I've never actually played those ones and know relatively nothing about them. Good stuff, keep it up.
It’s likely someone stole his highway man and crashed it, and when he went to retrieve it, all the noise attracted rad scorpions, and stung him before the scorps could be shot down. he probably payed everyone to just say he lived there, likely to escape the attention he was given after the enclaves destruction, still an awesome theory that kind of rubs away the ending of fallout 2 where the chosen one stayed in arroyo as it’s grand elder
100 IQ is literally middle of the bell curve btw. That aside, I really like this game theory. It holds water at least. Not sure why he'd display Enclave posters even if he took them as war trophies, but the wasteland is a weird place. I like this.
I’m pretty sure that gun is a reference to blade runner the same pistol deckard uses and as for that being the only one there’s many 223 pistols out in the world and merchants. there’s lots of weapons that transferred from fallout 2 into new Vegas, bozar sniper, 14mm pistol, grease gun, avenger mini gun, m60 etc. I do agree that nobark still has a high possibility of being the chosen one tho
It would make more sense to me if No-Bark was a tra elling companion of The Chosen One when they wre ked the car, No-Bark gets a gnarly head injury and was near death, and The Chosen One traded That Gun for supplies before he made the long journey back to New Arroyo
Another theory: He's not only paying everyone to keep quiet about his identity, he's actually not crazy. He's playing crazy to make people avoid him.

@@apple_with_a_human_butt nope it got its name from fallout 2's 223 pistol the 223 pistol was so famous in fallout 2 threads and community's people just started referring to it as that gun as everyone knew what people were talking about which is how it came to be in fallout new vegaz

My headcanon for no bark being the chosen one is this:
After destroying the oil rig and finding the GECK No-bark decided to travel the wasteland with his highwayman saying farewell to his tribe.
What a sad end for the badass that was the chosen one lol
@@drlukas4242 That's the whole point of a headcannon, even if you know it's not true you like to think it anyway
It's probably not likely that this is the case, but it's still a neat theory.
yeah same voice actor
Abi There were thousands of people in the vault. They did once every year until it became a monthly ordeal for them after some conspiracies happened. I wouldnt use the bodies as a reference for counting years.
Vault 11 survivor is cut content though
I like to consider the courier to be a close relative of the chosen one. At least if I have the vault 13 canteen and jumpsuit.

Roleplay as No Bark Noonan!
this is and interesting theory but honestly i think he was just a character that was added to references to fallout 2 the radscorpions link in my opinion is very loose the caps could have just been the devs making him stranger than he his and the enclave propaganda i think is there to further reference fallout 2 and the story about him living there just makes sense if he had crashed the car he would have just repaired it or just left it plus it adds nice decor and give a more wasteland-ish so it would make sense design wise and if they wanted to add the chosen one I think they would have given him a bigger role or i could be being an idiot and none of this makes sense and i could just be assuming the devs intentions inaccurately who knows only the devs and the devs won't saying

That has been experimented on to be super intelligent and even able to talk. Which he could be refering to when No-bark talks about being stung in the head by a rad scorpion. There's also a moment early on in Fallout 2 where the chosen one can mistakenly believe someone is offering to teach him magic.

In the quest you're referring to with the well treasure, when the chosen one finds the caps at the bottom, the item description says: "
These are worthless bottle caps. You've heard that at one time they were used as money, though you suspect its only a story."
I don't think the theory holds too much water either, to be honest.
Woof.
@@JerkyVend0r Ah thanks. Im glad I remembered that mostly right. Its just hard to remember after it goes caps, cash, caps caps caps caps
@@burger.1509 Are you referring to the bag of caps?
@@burger.1509 So I can tell what you're talking about

It's a good idea,
a lot of suggestions that the chosen one maybe went through Novac at the very least
“That gun” is actually a reference to blade runner. It’s identical to the gun Deckard used in the original blade rubber movie starring Harrison Ford….
Way to hit a home run on your first video! Damn son.
At first I thought this was a joke. But now…there is too much evidence to pretend like it’s not a possibility.
It would be cool if the courier could give no bark the platinum chip and no bark just wanders into Mr houses building and takes over new Vegas.
I used to headcanon that the top Ranger Hanlon was the Chosen One, and that the Courier was raised by Arch Dornan in the Divide, and the guys in Riot Armor were actually Enclave remnants under his command called “Archers”
If we ever get a remake I’d love them to confirm it
Good luck with the channel. Great video to lead off with
If he is the chosen one and is truly trying to living the rest of his days out in peace.
It’s likely someone stole his highway man and crashed it, and when he went to retrieve it, all the noise attracted rad scorpions, and stung him before the scorps could be shot down. he probably payed everyone to just say he lived there, likely to escape the attention he was given after the enclaves destruction, still an awesome theory that kind of rubs away the ending of fallout 2 where the chosen one stayed in arroyo as it’s grand elder
this was great for being ur first vid! subbed and excited for more fallout content :D
I heard that the "That Gun" is a reference to the Blade Runner movies because of its design being a close resemblance to the ones Deckard and K use.
Been playing recently like 3-6 times fucking love the small details
100 IQ is literally middle of the bell curve btw. That aside, I really like this game theory. It holds water at least. Not sure why he'd display Enclave posters even if he took them as war trophies, but the wasteland is a weird place. I like this.
We will watch your career with great interest.
Reverse pick pocket him vault 13 canteen, vault 13 armored jumpsuit, and a wheathered 10mm give him that back
That gun, is a callback to deckards gun from Blade runner
I’m pretty sure that gun is a reference to blade runner the same pistol deckard uses and as for that being the only one there’s many 223 pistols out in the world and merchants. there’s lots of weapons that transferred from fallout 2 into new Vegas, bozar sniper, 14mm pistol, grease gun, avenger mini gun, m60 etc. I do agree that nobark still has a high possibility of being the chosen one tho
It would make more sense to me if No-Bark was a tra elling companion of The Chosen One when they wre ked the car, No-Bark gets a gnarly head injury and was near death, and The Chosen One traded That Gun for supplies before he made the long journey back to New Arroyo
a good theory.
I hope i see your 1m subscribe one day.
