“The entirety of east town is a miserable location and people are willing to ruin their relationship to get out” As someone who is from Delco (the real life area the show takes place in), this is actually true but at the same time we’re really proud of where we’re from as much as we despise it. It’s kinda like “nobody can make fun of my relatives except me”
Loved the show and the finale. Kate Winslet commands the screen with such power, I forgot how good she is. Dark, depressing, funny with shocking moment sprinkled throughout. It has an old fashioned feel to it, prestige is spot on.
I'm still fuzzy as to why Dylan recruited the other two into that pact to burn Erin's journals... what was so incriminating in them that he had to destroy them? Just bc he didn't know John was DJ's dad, so why did he burn the journals and threaten the best friend with a gun?
The friend said it. He didn’t want his parents to lose Erin’s baby, but I think it was also that he didn’t either. He fell in love with the baby. The friend said it was because she wanted to protect Erin. She didn’t want people to see her friend’s indiscretions. The third friend was just and being led by Dylan.
I guess Jess was protecting Erin and Dylan loved DJ and wanted his parents to have him. It had me going and seemed a bit misleading. This side plot made me think Dylan was exploiting women for that kidnapper or something more complex.
Nice recap of a very complex show. I loved every second of it. Mare was able to confront and work through her grief. The ending was a perfect way to show that transition. Though the mystery part was good the show was really more an in-depth look at how we try to avoid these emotional challenges and a very hopeful look at the benefit for facing and working through it.
I was really surprised at how much I got into this show. Usually crime/mystery/dramas aren’t my thing, but when I saw Kate Winslet starring I figured give it a chance. And boy it didn’t disappoint. I loved how the first 2 episodes seemed kinda like a predictable start and then “skrrrrrrrt” the show takes a hard left then continued to deliver more twists and turns. And after watching Evan Peters so recently in WandaVision, I’m kinda becoming a fangirl. I always loved him in the X-men movies and AHS, but seeing him take on a more serious grounded role was really cool...“caught some quicksilver” (nice pun btw). I could go on & on about how great this show is, but that would take forever.
Just finished episode 7 and absolutely loved this show! So much emotion that we were put through but puts so much into perspective. Grief, pain, loss, happiness, and love. Incredible series & incredible acting. I hope this show gets the attention it deserves!
Easttown is just America. It's not particularly depressing to me because that's how it is. Thought the acting was great and the story kept me watching 9/10.
I felt that pain when Lori said to Mere “ you could’ve come to me first Mere” “it’s my Ryan Mere” I felt that pain!!! Mere being her BFF instead of bring so many cops Mere could’ve come to Lori alone instead! Damn I felt that pain
@@lydiaquinn2892 yes it was! I cried! Mere doing what she has to do bc she’s cop and then you have your BFF is has lost her family. Would it be better if Mere didn’t solve the murder so her family can be together? But then Erin wouldn’t get Justice? Damn I don’t know! Sad ending
@@Itsacamlife I know! I kept tossing it around in my head and realized it’s for the best. Ryan is only 13 years old and he would carry that awful event. It would ruin his life. It was a tragedy really. So so sad.
I understand she was in pain but please let's press pause. Lori brought this on herself. This falls at her feet. She put her sleazeball of a husband over her kids. Mare did tell her to stay away from him. And now because she didn't, her son is in jail, she's raising her husband's baby from her cousin once removed and her sleazeball/pervert husband is in jail.
@@gayshakelly5777 absolutely agree with you as well...I just felt for Lori in a sense where she wished that Mere could’ve come to her privately instead Mere bought the whole police crew to Lori’s house, to arrest Ryan who is just a kid. Maybe Mere could’ve arrested Ryan in less commotion maybe?
Overall this was very well done. I do wonder if the case would ever have been solved if Mr. Carrol hadn't called Mare, gone on about his pizza cutter and OH, BY THE WAY, his gun was missing and then put back minus two bullets. And the only one with keys besides him is the boy who cuts the lawn. (Who keeps a gun for protection and locks it up in their shed??? He said he heard a noise and went to get his gun.)
In an age of heroes encompassing pretty much everything, an ever so human story is refreshing and this was just outstanding. Just watched the last episode minutes ago and honestly I must have cried 3 or 4 times throughout. Beautifully written and the performances were amazing. This show deserves all the awards.
My thoughts: The acting in this series is by far the best I have seen this decade, absolutely superb. The twists and turns is another accolade and the writing also must be praised. The one thing I can take out of the location is that Easttown HAS to be the most boring place in America but the sex must be good :-)
Superb series and truly fitting ending because it maintained that melancholy which pervaded throughout, it felt truthful rather than neat for the benefit of the audience. Your analysis of parents taking the blame for the choices their children make is spot on. Just thankful that Mare found a little peace and became more compassionate, a terribly moving close. Winslet was outstanding.
I never saw Kate / mare uncompassionate. To me a woman is compassionate and nurturing for so long and gives and gives until we are an empty vessel and have nothing left to give. Both Mare and her best friend Lorie , in the kitchen collapsing into the floor in visceral devastation knowing they have both lost their children and families to this cruel world as many of us mothers / women find ourselves in 😢
But why did Billy confess to murder in ep.6 when in the next episode they literally tell us that John ASKED Billy to help him cover up the crime for the kid. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE for him to confess to the man who asked for his help in moving her already dead body. They tried to throw in a twist that doesn't add up
That was their back up plan..In case anyone figured it out , billy should surrender instead of big brother and kid coz he doesn't have any family. So big brother reminding him again their plan and make sure he's still with it. But after big brother tried to kill him he decided to walk out
I thought it had the perfect ending to a great mini series. I was watching other shows and every week I'd get reminded why it's the best series I was watching. .. 8.8/10. Highly recommend!
It was a pretty good series. Kinda bummed that there doesn't seem to be a second season coming, but definitely worth the watch. Thank you for the recommendation, I hadn't even heard of this show until I seen this video. Cheers! keep up the good work with your review and break down videos, I really enjoy watching them after I've finished a movie or show :)
I do wonder: they said Erin could not have biked all the way to the park from the forest. But how could the son get there in time, by bike, and actually manage to get there before Erin, who was riding with the Deacon by car?
@@Yourhighnessnona Didn't it say meet me there @ this time. So she could have been hanging out with the priest... and then he drove her there... but the boy could have been riding the bike for an hour... or enough time to get there because it wasn't like they were going right then and there.
Great show. Once it became clear who the father of the baby was, I thought the kid may have been part of it - mostly because he got so much attention through the episodes when he had little to do with the plot.
I'm from this part of the world, my friend and I had fun identifying the product placements and locations. Excellent series, like The Wire for Baltimore, doesn't make PA look very good!
I loved this show! Kudos to Kate Winslet! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I would have loved to see the reaction of Erin’s father after finding out who’s the killer and the baby’s real father.
I just saw this series and I have two big questions left: 1. Mr. Carroll said he saw his gun in the shed then it went missing for a few days and then he found it back in its place. But Ryan is shown to put the gun back the same day he stole it 2. Why was Erin naked when found if Ryan is the one who killed her?
So priest gets arrested and thrown in jail for destroying evidence (Erin’s bike), but Lori lies to police about Billy's confession (doesn’t) get arrested or charged with anything and gets custody of kid? Look at the scene where Mare is speaking with her Mom after John's arraignment at the courthouse. Mare: She lied to me mom. Mom: Can you blame her? Mare: Yeah. I can fucking blame her all right. She obstructed a murder investigation mom. She looked me in the eye and told me Billy murdered Erin.
Last episode did not disappoint, at the end of ep6 I knew the solution was not as simple as it looked. Great plotting and acting, If they make more I hope the standards don't slip.
Richard did serve a purpose, albeit a small one. Richard became Kate's new love interest even though initially Kate didn't want to take it further. She went out to support him on his book anniversary while she was invested in the case. But when she was kicked off the case, instead of going out with Richard on his birthday Kate decided to go on a date with Collin just so she could still work the case. So I believe the purpose of Richard here was to show that Kate prioritized her detective work above her personal relationships and personal well being. This was even further hit home when she talked about how she focused on her work rather than son. But I do get your point about Richard's role, I guess nothing is ever perfect.
Did they ever answer what Dylan was doing when he left the house? I don’t remember if there was anything to suggest otherwise than what he himself said about driving and smoking weed
Brilliant series, superb acting from every actor but especially Kate, Jean Smart and Julianne Nicholson. Gripping from start to finale. "Mom! It's Mare.....she knows!!" is seared into my brain. Along with True Detective Season 1this is by far one of the best written and best acted shows I've ever seen.
In the scene in Brandywine Park when Colin Zabel asks ‘Where is Erin’s bicycle?’ Mare responds that the park is 13.7 miles from the Easttown and too far for Erin to bike, so someone must have drove her there. Yet Ryan, 13 years old who looks to have the body of an 11 year old, bikes those 13,7 miles and gets there ahead of Deacon Mark and Erin? This is a big hole in the plot as far as I am concerned.
I really loved this series! Jean Smart and Kate Winslet together was awesome. It so captured the small town feel, I felt like I lived there. With that being said...I came away from the finale feeling unsatisfied with the resolution to Erin's murder. I just didn't care about or feel invested in Ryan. Does anyone else feel this way, or just me? Otherwise, a 10 out of 10 show!
The morning the "snooper" scared the granddaughter & Phyllis called Mare started it all. When evening came, the night of Erin's murder, Mr Carroll heard rustling outside. He assumed the prowler was afoot & went to get his gun. But it was Ryan who caused the noise. When Mr Carroll got to the shed, his weapon was already missing.
Didn’t Mare delete something from the security cameras a few episodes back when someone drew crude garfitti on the shed? The same shed where the murder weapon was kept?
Like Mare said lori has lied from the beginning even though it's her family and I do feel bad for her but when Ryan ran when he saw Mare plus the fact that she is a cop there was no other way but to put the call out
Excellent summary and review! I do think the last phrase "I am here" was a great echo to the sermon by the deacon. Any thoughts on the SNL spoof? Was it stereotypical?
I find this finale quite satisfying and all my major questions are answered except for 3 things. 1. Since John isn't the killer, why is he still in jail? Accessory to murder? 2. Since Dylan had no role in Erin's murder, then why was he so aggressive and threatening towards Jess and Brianna? just to keep DJ in his family? 3. The concerning / lingering gaze that Father Dan had when he learned that Deacon is coming back. I thought that was supposed to mean something. The car scene and kitchen scene are heart wrenching - absolutely brutal. I give kudos to the writer and director (both male) to have the sensitivities to execute that kitchen scene with so little spoken words and only the actresses' body language to act out the reconciliation of that friendship particularly from Lori's perspective - show; don't tell. Emmys for both KW and JN please!
Billy cooperated so he's out on parole in a year. John got obstruction & sexual abuse of a minor. That Dylan stuff still pisses me off. So where was he when Brianna woke up? What was her final sentence for the assault?
With Ryan being the one who shot the victim why did his father and uncle fight as though they were both guilty of the girls murder? They both knew the truth.
They wanted to protect Ryan because they knew it was basically an accident, plus the reason Ryan threatened Erin in the first place was because his father had an affair with Erin so his father wanted to cover up his affair as well.
Did this remind anyone else of "Broadchurch?" (with David Tennant and Olivia Colman (not to mention Jodi Whitaker - you get two Doctors for the price of one)) There are a few surface similarities, but thematic ones as well.
I think they just added Guy Pierce so that people keep thinking that the final plot twist is that he is the actual killer 😹 He has always been getting this types of roles where he is the actual villain. It was a good decision as nobody would thought of Ryan as killer. Even in last ep when something seems off I thought "Oh then it's probably Guy Pierce"
Really liked this show, great acting and casting. While a sequel would probably not be as good, I’d still watch it to check on these well developed characters!
So when billy says I’m ready to confess (after we see the scene of John telling him to say he killed her out loud) was he saying falsely confess to killing her or confess to moving the body and that’s why John panicked was going to kill him to frame him to protect himself and his son
Brilliant series, I absolutely loved it! I was really impressed with the attention to detail too eg the hard to master local accent. Angourie Rice is a very good actor. She already is part of the MCU but she looks like a young Brie Larson and could double up as part of any Carol Danvers flash backs and retrospective cameos. PS Moira is adorable!
DJ's full name. From the computer screen during the hospital visit. Dylan John Mcmenamin. So Erin named (middle name) her son after his real father John? So Dylan knew all along that DJ wasn't his son right??
I enjoyed this series; Kate Winslet’s Mare portrays an older woman’s who is grieving and begins to accept help from others. She is able to begin to heal as a result of her staying useful to her community and her family. The help in grief therapy was a significant part of her healing.
Ill miss this show 😢 It’s gonna leave a gap in the Sunday night timeslot. I was surprised by the ending but that’s not a bad thing I knew it wasn’t gonna be any of the obvious red herrings. What I thought I thought the attic where nobody goes was going to have something to do with Erin’s death. I thought someone that had access to that attic went up there and got Mares fathers old revolver. My second guess though was Lori or her son because I knew John or Billy had nothing to do with it

Shevonne Polastre Still way to much overreaction on his part & why did he have a gun?
@@samanthab1923 Yeahhh Dylan was an idiot
I guess Jess was protecting Erin and Dylan loved DJ and wanted his parents to have him. It had me going and seemed a bit misleading. This side plot made me think Dylan was exploiting women for that kidnapper or something more complex.
one thing i didn't get is Brianna (Dylan's gf) said that Dylan was missing when she woke up. So was he just driving around??
Nice recap of a very complex show. I loved every second of it. Mare was able to confront and work through her grief. The ending was a perfect way to show that transition. Though the mystery part was good the show was really more an in-depth look at how we try to avoid these emotional challenges and a very hopeful look at the benefit for facing and working through it.
Beautifully acted, with performances that rivaled true detective season 1.
I agree. The setting wasn't depressing. It was just real life. Real America.
@@hjbau1350 well real america is depressing then??
sad comment, but true i suppose in many cases
im not american and watching this show and just got me thinking, does american really like this??
I felt that pain when Lori said to Mere “ you could’ve come to me first Mere” “it’s my Ryan Mere” I felt that pain!!! Mere being her BFF instead of bring so many cops Mere could’ve come to Lori alone instead! Damn I felt that pain
Me too. I cried without realizing I was crying. So in the moment. That was a never forget gut wrenching scene
I was surprised how fast i got hooked on that show. Great show and great review of it!
In an age of heroes encompassing pretty much everything, an ever so human story is refreshing and this was just outstanding. Just watched the last episode minutes ago and honestly I must have cried 3 or 4 times throughout. Beautifully written and the performances were amazing. This show deserves all the awards.
Loved the show! Definitely reminded me of true detective which I miss so much. Great actors and story line. Love your insight
This series was amazing and that’s hard to say these days! Loved every bit of it!
Both Mare and her best friend Lorie , in the kitchen collapsing into the floor in visceral devastation knowing they have both lost their children and families to this cruel world as many of us mothers / women find ourselves in 😢
Just watched this all in one go, Dear me this show has everything, I didn’t know what was going to happen next.....Absolute entertainment 🌹
But after big brother tried to kill him he decided to walk out
I think they were rehearsing him taking the fall, i, wondered rhe same thing aa well
Been desperately hoping you'd review this amazing show!!! Kate Winslet is so fantastic I honestly forgot this was her at times.
Dude me too! By the finale I was like woah I forgot she was British 😅
I thought it had the perfect ending to a great mini series. I was watching other shows and every week I'd get reminded why it's the best series I was watching. .. 8.8/10. Highly recommend!
Colin caught some quicksilver Lololololololololol. Mephisto!
Best show I’ve watched in a while, even being so damn sad. Winslet deserves awards and her Mom was fantastic
I figured it out myself: Ryan was at Frank’s house which was maybe closer to the park than the forest where Erin was coming from.
The show was really impactful and riveting! I loved it
I loved this show! Kudos to Kate Winslet! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I would have loved to see the reaction of Erin’s father after finding out who’s the killer and the baby’s real father.
Just watched the show and here's the breakdown from Paul!!
I just saw this series and I have two big questions left:
1. Mr. Carroll said he saw his gun in the shed then it went missing for a few days and then he found it back in its place. But Ryan is shown to put the gun back the same day he stole it
2. Why was Erin naked when found if Ryan is the one who killed her?
Absolutely spectacular show and spot on ending explained.
Yeah, there are some odd inconsistencies
Mare did ask the DA to drop charges against Deacon Mark.
That ‘Pennywise’ made me do a spit-take. Funny stuff. Good show, good review.
Excellent breakdown Paul. Thank you
I am rooting for Kate all the way to the red carpet! What an unbelievable series! And the accents??!
Last episode did not disappoint, at the end of ep6 I knew the solution was not as simple as it looked. Great plotting and acting, If they make more I hope the standards don't slip.
Great show and great review. My only complaint with the show was Richard. Served no purpose. Maybe a red herring, but not even that.
I believe that he was supposed to be a tempt for the audience’s suspicion because of the “ferret-like” face. I didn’t find his arc compelling at all.
I don’t remember if there was anything to suggest otherwise than what he himself said about driving and smoking weed
wondering the same thing. He mightve said the truth but why hide that simple fact from the police
They probably wanted to add a misleading twist, and did it awkwardly.
I thought they said it was 13.7 miles from the woods. Maybe the kid lived closer?
I really loved this series! Jean Smart and Kate Winslet together was awesome. It so captured the small town feel, I felt like I lived there. With that being said...I came away from the finale feeling unsatisfied with the resolution to Erin's murder. I just didn't care about or feel invested in Ryan. Does anyone else feel this way, or just me? Otherwise, a 10 out of 10 show!
Well written and kept me guessing. Good show. Great review.
How did the old bloke know his gun went missing? The kid took it back within a few hours of stealing it...
Very upsetting, no one wins everyone loses.
I enjoyed this show, the actors were great. Nice summary Paul, like usual you do a very good job breaking it down.
Kate Winslet was amazing in this and it was a great show. Unfortunately, the ending just had too many twists, but overall I enjoyed the show. 8/10
Didn’t Mare delete something from the security cameras a few episodes back when someone drew crude garfitti on the shed? The same shed where the murder weapon was kept?
Erin whole day was effed up from that morning till that final night, lmaooo
Also really wish we got to see Kenny's reaction to finding out John is the real father
@@disguy he's not gonna be able to kill him that's for sure.
Excellent series! Really good story paired with exceptional acting 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Did this remind anyone else of "Broadchurch?" (with David Tennant and Olivia Colman (not to mention Jodi Whitaker - you get two Doctors for the price of one)) There are a few surface similarities, but thematic ones as well.
Yup totally
Sayin it again, this man just stays ready for the best reviews
Thank you
awesome as always thank you Paul
Great series. So well acted. Not sure if anyone who has watched this need the ending explained. Definitely one of the best series of the year so far.
5:35 he's right. Most of us get stuck here in eastown/delco
This show was definitely dope af. I binged it in 2 days and kind of want to watch it again
Great job! I’d give it 9/10 for dialects alooone
Awesome video Paul!!
Thank you Saikath, hope you have a good day
Thank you! Hope you have a great day too!
Great video, loved your thoughts
It was riveting. As the limited series Your Honor, how one can find themselves in circumstances never thought possible.
Really liked this show, great acting and casting. While a sequel would probably not be as good, I’d still watch it to check on these well developed characters!
They killed Collin (my fave character) and it was barely a speed bump. That was weird
So when billy says I’m ready to confess (after we see the scene of John telling him to say he killed her out loud) was he saying falsely confess to killing her or confess to moving the body and that’s why John panicked was going to kill him to frame him to protect himself and his son
I thought the pacing of the 7-ep series was great. Bro, compared to Ragnarok (Netflix), this show was Usain Bolt.
Siobhan's Kate Plus Eight do annoyed me.
@@samanthab1923 Sorry, what do you mean?
I loved this series so much. I wish they would do a second season but it looks unlikely.
Gonna watch episode 7 soon as always awesome video Sir 👍👍👍
I love that other then the cheif there's never any other authority figures. Jeez this was good
DJ's full name. From the computer screen during the hospital visit. Dylan John Mcmenamin. So Erin named (middle name) her son after his real father John? So Dylan knew all along that DJ wasn't his son right??
No, John is a very common name.
I enjoyed this series; Kate Winslet’s Mare portrays an older woman’s who is grieving and begins to accept help from others. She is able to begin to heal as a result of her staying useful to her community and her family. The help in grief therapy was a significant part of her healing.
I’m a sucker for a good HBO show and this one was a hugely pleasant surprise
This show struck me across the face. I thoroughly enjoyed. Kate winslet is stellar as always. I’m glad I finally watch it.
The BEST!!! We absolutely love Mare of Easttown. I only wish it were longer. 5 stars ✨
Great review! I loved the show
Ill miss this show 😢 It’s gonna leave a gap in the Sunday night timeslot.
