This is the Nikon Z6II 4K Video Test. Thank you my friend for letting me play with his brand new video. As you guys may know I’m not a Nikon shooter. But I always like to try out all the new stuff. Nikon recently announced the Z6 successor. The Z6 II. And the big change was the 4K 60p. Unfortunately 4K 60p is not available until sometime Feb, March, 2021. So I had to shoot the entire video with just standard 25p. The reason why I didn’t go for the 10Bit clean HMDI output. Because a lot of you guys been asking wanna see the quality straight out of the camera. Without using an external recorder. It kind of make sense, like myself I would much prefer to shoot everything internally. And it makes run and gun shooting a lot easier. But then 8Bit Nikon colour was not easy to work with. Even in flat picture, I still think it was a bit too contrasty. So I reckon shooting with external, you get much better result.
Over all, it is a very solid camera. You get really nice 4K image coming out of this Z6II. But I wish Nikon could give me more on video size. At least let me know what bitrate I was shooting at. I went every website on internet. but there was no information at all about the 4K bitrate. Not even on the Nikon website. But I have watched some reviews online. And people said its exactly the same bitrate as the last gen. So I’m assuming its still 144Mbps.
So this is the pros and cons on the Z6II (Personal opinion)
Pros
Full Frame 4K
Really nice 4K image
Cons
IBIS doesn’t work so well when panning. You get choppy footage
No 10Bit internally
No N-Log internally
4K 60p is only in crop mode and its not ready until March 2021
I might do a part 2 when the 12Bit ProRes RAW become available in 2021

Anyway, went with a Nikon D3 and couldn’t be happier, left the video features behind and fully focused on photography and this thing is a beast, wow, best colors of any camera still till today
I sold my D7200 and bought myself a Sony A6400.
Selling my D7500 now and getting a Z6ll! Just can't decide between the 35mm and 50mm lens...
DSI, can you do an update showing Z 6II 4K 30 FPS VERSUS z 6 II 4K 60 FPS ? I want to see how the image quality differs when going up to 60 fps, and seeing the crop factor in action. ❤️

I loved it, great video! I think I'll get a Z6 II next year, I don't shoot video yet, just stills... But I'll get into shooting video as soon as I get the Z6 II... I love its image quality, I'm not currently considering other options cause my main thing is photography, and the Z6 II video capabilities are more than good enough for me, I'd say it's an amazing video camera even for pros... (I don't mind buying and carrying an external recorder and stuff) Once again, thanks a lot for this video!!!

@@dsipictures whats the main difference with video on the Z7ii? i plan on having an external recorded hooked into it..im new to video just wondering if that would be a better setup
Quality shots, as always! Out of camera image quality seems to be very good. Just don't quite understand what's taking Nikon so long to implement the 4k/60fps from the start? Would you prefer the S5 over this in terms of overall handling and IQ? These two cameras I am currently watching very closely.
They’re both great cameras. But Nikon might be better for photo than video. Even tho the Z6II got decent video features. But 10Bit, N-Log has to go externally. It may not be ideal for run and gun type of shooting. And yea, not sure why we have to wait for 3-4 months for the 4K 60p firmware update. So if u think u do 70% photo and 30% video, then go for the Nikon Z6II. But if you do 70% video and just 30% photo. I reckon you should go for the S5 ☺️
@@dsipictures And what do you think of Fuji X-T4 in comparison with S5 and Z6II or A7III/C? For 60% run&gun documentary/talking heads and 40% photo? Do you prefer fullframe S5? They are all in the same price range... BTW thanks for stunning content, it's allways a joy to watch👍
@@ondrejcarda If you need good video AF. I think A7III or A7C are the better choices. But ofcoz the drawback on those cameras are the 8Bit Color. Fujifilm X-T4 is nice. Good Color and 10Bit Color. But only APS-C. So there isn’t a perfect camera 😉
@@dsipictures Thanks! Yeah... They're all great but one key feature is always missing 🤯 I've seen many A7III and A7C videos (even without YT compression) and they all look kinda flat to me. They're sharp but feels like spread on very thin paper 😁 A7SIII is great but not for stills. And for its price you could have one "not perfect" camera with some great lens, monitor/recorder, gimbal, microphones, lights,... 🤑 But which one 🤔😅

Amazing footage
A nice and pleasing video. How was the video in IBIS sports mode? Was it still jittery? Its 2022 and I'm chosing between Sony 7iii and z6ii. The only issue is the ibis for me. An answer would be really helpful

Nice! So much detail. Only one problem. Nikon z lens is sharp, but the micro contrast is not good. Using the Zeiss milvus or otus. it would be better

Now i have understood why we need 1/50sec for 25fps and play with ND 6 stops and iso to keep this 1/50sec.
Can you please explain how you set the focus with such high aperture for car, traffic, people,... AF-F auto area ? AF-F wide-L ?...
Why does you video look so soft and fluent at 25fps 1/50sec as if it was taken at 100fps 1/200sec, slow-mo... ?

It's a shame that the only way to capture Nlog you need to have an external recorder. Otherwise, it would've been my favorite camera of all time.

It’s more about the creative than the gear I intend to make some amazing things as well with my z6ii/85mm
Do you plan on testing out the Z6ii again when the Prores raw or the Black Magic Raw comes out for this camera next year?
Yea I think I will. But I heard that’s a paid firmware update. I guess I just have to wait for more info from Atomos and Nikon 😉

I would love to shoot more cars. But it’s hard. Most of the super car events always happen indoor. I was just lucky to see one. And the best thing is, they didn’t kick me out 😉😉

Thanks, yea it was just standard 8Bit Flat color. I might do a part 2 when Atomos and Nikon release the 12Bit ProRes RAW firmware update 😉

Most of the situation, you don’t need 10Bit. 10Bit is when u do heavy grading, where u need to push the limits

There is no 10Bit internal unfortunately, only 10Bit out to external recorder 😉

I’m based in Perth, Australia. And this is where the video was shot. We didn’t have any new cases for months now. As the border was closed since April. Right now, we can’t travel at all, not even going to interstates like Sydney or Melbourne. But the good thing is, yes we are living just like normal here 😉
Don't worry about it.
Nikon is delivering video as of smartphone tendencies. Too much color and base contrast. This can´t be good at "pro level" equipment. Of course, untrained eye, immediately says IQ is gorgeous, as per Iphone, Samsung S20 or dare I say even GoPro when light is OK.
