awesome, I am in Greece and Curtis inspired me to make my farming business. I just took the brix levels of my Baby Roma tomatoes, I chose 2 kinds, one red-orangy that could mature little bit more and I taste it, is not sweet enough and one red that is ready mature which was very sweet. The Brix levels were different, the orange -red was 7 and the Red one was 12.
I am quite happy with those levels. 12 is excellent. YEAH!!!!! I am doing something right. Thank you guys both, I have seen your videos and you have helped me to go to the right direction, some of the things you guys use I don't have in Greece but I am working on it.

"The way I built my garden was for my daughter." Curits Stone is such an awesome human being, I wish more people could understand this vision of preparing the future for our sons and daughters. We need to see the world through the gaze of leaving the earth better off than how we found it and by sharing this knowledge to the world we can set others on the right path to truth and honesty.
Thank you John for preparing this interview, I feel this has been long overdue, but well worth it. 8)

Curtis is in one of the warmest parts of Canada. I am working on growing year round (for my own use) in zone 5a. Last spring frost is June 1st, First fall frost is early October, 4 months frost free.
Early planting of winter greens.... That's a good tip, cabbage, kale etc. will do better.

Sort of. Kelowna is still a continental town. Coldest day on record is -36C! Considering water freezes at 0C...... But yes, you are right, in the summer, the Okanagan is downright hot.

Totally no where else can they grow orchards of cherries😅. But still with how crazy warm things have got now in the last 10 years and this being a la nina aka Cold weather year... i can see growing in winter. Fun fact. Under the snow it stays 0 degrees C so pile some straw on top and it should be the same temp as he gets there. Only thing i might worry about now is a big thaw... wonder how he deals with that🤔

Think about that phrase again. One of the warmest parts of Canada. Dude, it’s still freezing cold! Yes. It’s very hot in the summer. But it’s super cold in the winter. Saying you the warmest place in Canada and the winner is not exactly a complement. Lol.

Greenhouse glass actually filters out UV light it might would be beneficial to supplement UV light with some UV tube lights in there because it adds stuff I don't know what it does for all plants but it is part of sunlight when it comes to marijuana it makes it 30% stronger so there is that maybe it would do something similar to fruits

Actually, they are polar opposites. John's channels are primarily entertaining hype. Curtis' channel is all about commercial gardening and not wasting your time, dollars and efforts. He doesn't promote any products unless he sees value (in terms of profitability). Curtis would never promote things like rock dust, azomite, Boogie Brew, compost tea, filtered water ... things that John has vigorously promoted on his channel.

Not to argue.....but....to play devil's advocate for the "4 things you'd never do"
    1) Curtis has infinite room compared to your property...a wall of dried out basil plants isn't a big deal.
    2) The composted Zukes....again, its about scale. Its a fairly large farm operation.....it is simply going to have more wastage....and if you compost it, is it really "wastage"?
    3) Kind of agree...I am all about max production....if its a primo spot, I wouldn't be using it for storage!
    4) Again, sort of agree...but it is nitpicky. You often make do with what you have and what time you can spare.

I am not surprised the vertical wall of basil failed. It created too much humidity in the space which was always a problem, erodes nutrients from the soil, increases pest habitat/pressure, hard to water consistently, blocks sun, located near the exterior wall which is cold, restricts airflow, requires too much attention/time to monitor, and it is more decorative than it is commercial. Curtis actually replaced his greenhouse plastic because of condensation issues earlier this year, which I believe was due to the "evaporator wall" (Basil Wall) saturating the greenhouse with moisture and not caused by the wrong type of plastic as Curtis explained/believed. It was an experiment that didn't work out and I hope Curtis does talk about it on his channel. Sometimes the best lessons are ones that didn't work out, but in the end we all learn from it. John your channel shows both sides (good and bad) which is hugely beneficial to the viewers. Curtis did nothing wrong with the Basil wall, it's just not a viable system/design for commercial producers. Rj - Beyond Harvest Veganistas

Too bad Curtis doesn't have misting sprayers for his basil wall. A lot of grocery stores have automated ones in their produce departments.
Wine bottle corks or slices of broom handles might hold up well as end plugs for his drip irrigation tubes out front. Depends on diameter.

I tried the “what you can reach u can eat”(basically)-but then people came & took the “whole lot”-like an entire crop (how can u use an entire crop without wasting at least some of it?!) There are so many that are so selfish these days-taking MORE than WHAT THEY NEED!!!

John, my husband and I love your channels. You love vacationing so you should check out John Rose and the Solid Food Vacation. It will take your life to the next level. I'm on day 41 of my Solid Food Vacation. Also, Fully Raw Christina seems like a good match for you. I think you two could hit it off big!

Testing ripeness of fruit isn't a sign of plant health neccesarily, you should be monitoring leaf brix to ascertain the soil biology potential

Yep use all of the land, don't waste that space. You have to juice that produce first then compost the pulp. dead plants on the greenhouse wall didn't see that one on the vlog before?, and Curtis is cutting corners on his irrigation system, calling it how it is

Why would you treat the wood being used for the raised beds? My understanding is that the chemicals would leach into your food? What would you treat with? That is why i silent the extra money on cedar for my garden as to not leach chemicals into the ground.

    • @growingyourgreens
      @growingyourgreens  6 лет назад +1

I would treat the wood so it does not rot, and looks nicer longer. I would NOT treat with harmful chemicals. See ruclips.net/video/22kefp9byh8/видео.html for further information on a non toxic alternative
