Two villains in wildly popular Shonen series who honestly have a very similar character arc. They speak of profound and nuance theories and philosophies of the soul and of heroism, but they are spoken by childish and immature forces of destruction. However, unlike the other villains in their series, they represent the villainy of humanity. The ability to grow, adapt and evolve. And so, after coming face to face with the protagonist both are forced to grow, to become more solid in their themes and their abilities to match their polar opposite in Izuku Midoriya and Yuji Itadori.
Both have the ability to destroy a person's body with a touch, and can swell their limbs to incredible sizes for strong melee attacks. They also have a very clear visual symbolization of hands (Mahito's Domain Expansion is literally a shit ton of hands and Shigaraki wears them all over his body.) They both have unsettling physical features and pale blue hair.
However, where they contrast is that while Mahito only represents the cruelty and evil of mankind, Shigaraki also represents its strength. The strength of community, of loyalty and of resiliency. He represents its upsides as well as it's downsides, while Mahito as a cursed spirit only represents its evil.

The battle of two men who touches people.
There's a lot of information that could really be used to debate either side, but the real deciding question is if Shigaraki is fast enough to both react and escape being caught by Mahito's Domain Expansion.
To set an equal table, let's just say that MHA's Quirk factors are the same as JJK's cursed techniques, unique abilities engrained in their body/brain at the moment of birth, simultaneously, a Domain's technique nullification should function like MHA's Erasure, where the quirk factor/cursed technique would be disturbed and prevent activation, the only exception to Erasure being purely physical traits and mutant-type quirks, for JJK, this would be things like Rika, Maki, cursed tools, and the physical abilities of cursed spirits, and most importantly cursed energy which is also innate and part of a sorcerer's body but separate from their CT.
This is all to say that Domain Expansion would negate all of Shigaraki's quirks save for his physical prowess near-equal to All Might and his ability to grow limbs displayed in the final arc which is stated to "not be a quirk", and instead a regular function of his own body.
However, Shigaraki's defenses for his soul, which in this case would be his quirk vestige/soul (MHA really doesn't make it clear), are shielded by narrative metaphysical hatred, and technically AFO's soul. As Nanami did in their first encounter, Shigaraki could defend himself against Idle Transfiguration a few times, however, Self-Embodiment of Perfection can arguably directly interact with Shigaraki's soul, unless you want to argue that the aforementioned metaphysical hatred can operate like a simple domain and negate the sure-hit effect.
In addition though, the core of Shigaraki's being can survive the alteration of his physical vessel, which is the main property of Idle Transfiguration. Mahito's typical flesh expansion/alteration might not be entirely effective on Shigaraki if his body's growth, which we have established can still function within a Domain, is able to withstand the process. But within the Domain, the fight becomes psuedo-All Might vs Mahito, and Shigaraki has no means within a Domain to really break out or strike at Mahito's soul. Not to mention that numerous quirk vestiges may also serve as a form of "soul shields" for Shigaraki like we see with Sukuna, though this implies that Shigaraki could potentially lose a quirk with every physical interaction.
Decay CAN work against Mahito to those who argue against it for one sole reason, the body IS the vessel for the soul, the core of both Mahito's technique and his entire being. Even if Mahito can survive Decay by severing and regenerating his wounds, if his vessel, or his body, is completely destroyed by Shigaraki's Decay, there is no vessel for the soul to inhibit, leaving only death for Mahito. Albeit without Cursed Energy, he may win the fight, but Mahito can revive after some untold amount of time as a new cursed spirit.
Simultanously, Shigaraki may still easily snag a victory, as per his logic, AFO should theoretically work on cursed techniques, so it is entirely possible for Shigaraki to steal Idle Transfiguration. Shigaraki also has access to defensive abilities like Air Shield, Air Blast, and support quirks like Forced Quirk Activation and Search to pinpoint potential weaknesses and his core where the soul is located if he splits himself apart like he did with Yuji, and FQA to prevent and cause his technique to go haywire and disrupt precise usage.
So with all these factors, it really comes down to the question of if Shigaraki can escape being caught in Self-Embodiment of Perfection and be forced to fight in a war of attrition against Mahito for as many quirks he may have until Mahito's domain can break through his defenses. Mahito can only hold a domain for so long, but Shigaraki would need to sacrifice numerous quirks to protect his own soul against Mahito's Domain for so long.
It also falls on the question of if Mahito can completely survive being being hit, as we've established that Shigaraki can definitely survive, but Mahito would have to be lucky, but in those moments he would be forced to fight defensively until he can regenerate his body, and unfortunately, fighting defensively against Shigaraki while all his quirks are active is a death sentence.
My main problem with this is that shigaraki's main options are only attacking from far, because if mahito comes into contact with him at all, it's over. Shigaraki's only soul protection feat is it not getting completely corrupted by all for one. But mahito controls your soul once he touches you once.
Now, to be fair, shigaraki is faster, stronger, and more durable than mahito. And he has a lot of quirks that could help him stay alive. But none of those matter if shigaraki couldn't protect his own soul and couldn't damage mahito's soul. Mahito can shape his own soul to whatever he wants. Only limited by his imagination. He was able to dodge light beams and missiles from mechamaru so his speed isn't lacking in any way. And domain expansion is a guaranteed win.
Now you could argue that shigaraki's decay ability could do something, but mahito could just change his soul to pull away or cut off his body part and regrow his limbs. It was only a matter of time before shigaraki eventually got touched by mahito and lost. The winner is mahito.

@@chideraumejiaku3895 Knowing where Mahito's soul is doesn't mean you can touch it, even if he does Mahito have complete control of it and can just fix it with a moderate amount of CE, also Mahito can fly so it doesn't matter if shigaraki can decay the ground.

Yes I think shiggy can win this fight Bcs most ppl forgot that afo tried to consume shiggy soul but shiggy resist it and shiggy even confirms it and 2nd thing I want to mention that afo is inside shiggy so this is like disadvantage for mahito if he tried to use his ct on shiggy afo can hurt him if mahito tried to touch shiggy soul, so this is like yuji vs mahito fight but yuji got buffed 1000x times and 3rd thing I want to mention that fight against star and strips when she touched shiggy she said “if shiggy moved his heart will stop” but when he moved his heart didnt stop Bcs I think afo can even control shiggy soul even though shiggy can resist it but I think shiggy wins overall

Mahito might win unless you wanna say the speed of decay is faster than Mahito. But Mahito is slower so shigaraki will probably take. I think the interactions will be fun though and if Mahito gets his armor and a clean hit he has a chance
Quick edit: I forgot to mention domains, if it is used shigaraki has a VERY LOW chance of winning, in 0.2 seconds one of shigarakis arms are gone, but you could argue that Mahitos domain could be broken by decay.

@@zephyre6613 Shigaraki can see souls and is aware of his own, he will be able to overcome Mahito's domain expansion as it targets his soul just like AFO did. After resisting the domain, Shigaraki unleashes his killing intent which petrifies Mahito in fear, allowing Shiggy to go in for the kill
He already resists transfiguration so he could just destroy the domain and kill Mahito. With DE destroyed his CT is burnt out and he can’t recover

@@XenoPyraXMythra he does though, mahito is the one who doesnt, aoyama's lasers are stated multiple times to have the properties of light and other characters such as literally mina dodged them during the trounament festival arc thingy (forgot the name), she is far weaker than him especially in that arc
he also reacted to lasers in his fight with stars n stripes
deku and shoto dodged lasers as they were being shot in one of the movies (the movies are stated to be canon)
also deku in another movie dodged dozens of lasers at a time from nine
in chapter 385 hawks reacted a blast of light by all for one trying to protect tokoyami
decay is in fact a one shot, never once has a character been able to resist the decay and even if shigaraki cant preceive mahito's soul, the soul is said to be something that can be perceived and touched by certain characters like yuji and sukuna, you dont HAVE to be able to see the soul in order to damage it since split soul katana exists
now because the soul is an actual physical thing that can be touched according to the jjk verse, shigaraki can definetly use decay to also hit his soul, since either way decay will travel throughout his body and at one point it will make contact with his soul
this part is just speculation but even if shigaraki isnt able to hurt his soul at all, in chapter 380, afo bends space to try to kill hawks, that was a younger afo, assuming shigaraki got all for one (the quirk) with all of the quirks afo got beforehand, which is shown to be the case, he could do the same and bend space in order to kill mahito, but it possibly got taken away by stars n stripes
also shigaraki has shown to have a very strong soul where even deku with all of the vestiges of ofa had trouble getting past

@observantbuddy Evan if Shigaraki does outspeed, it won't matter because Mahito's ability activates after making fiscal contact. Once he touches someone or someone else touches him, he can blow you up or turn you into a distorted monster and have you choke on your own lungs. The only way he can survive this would be to remove the part of his body that touched Mahito, which he won't know about until it's too late.

Decay goes brrrr I rarely never seen such a one sided request being made like this. Idle configuration means nothing if he can’t get close to Shigaraki. Not to mention he ain’t coming back from being dusted.

I despise this match-up, really matching up the main antagonist of mha with a minor antag from jjk. One of them destroys countries, requires entire armies of superhumans to defeat, the other is not even scratching city level and got his ass beat by 2 people not even top 10 in the verse.

I want to say smth, there's the fact that while it took a while, Shigaraki was able to resist and ultimately regain his body back when All For One tried to consume his soul. In the manga, Shigaraki himself confirms that's what All For One attempted to do, confirming that he has some resistance to Soul Manipulation abilities and given that he once brought himself back to life through sheer willpower alone and I think domains with barriers like Gojo and mahito can’t effect ppl with no ce Bcs only domain that effect ppl with ce and no ce is sukuna and shiggy is more faster and haves danger sense I don’t think mahito can even touch him if he is not even fast like ftl and my opinion I think shiggy is immune at mahito domain Bcs this is like yuji vs mahito fight but yuji got 100x buffed and reason I say this Bcs if you watched jjk s1 when mahito tried to go inside yuji soul but sukuna stopped mahito this is same thing for shiggy he haves another soul (all for one) so I think shiggy wins
