George Demetrescu Mirea: The Romanian Painter of Portraits and Murals
George Demetrescu Mirea was a Romanian painter celebrated for his detailed portraits and impressive murals. He studied in Paris under Carolus-Duran, whose influence shaped Mirea’s style and technique. As a war artist, he depicted military scenes during the Russo-Turkish War. Sadly, many of his famous murals, including those in Constanța Cathedral, were destroyed during World War II. Mirea also made a lasting impact as an art teacher at the Bucharest National University of Arts, mentoring future generations of Romanian artists.
