I think we idolize the 'truth teller' type, and we see the 'genius' that type. So therefore we have more lenience for if he's rude or lacks empathy, because we think in order to 'tell the truth' to 'save the world', one has to step on some toes
I don't see it that way. Phrases like 'the truth hurts' and 'honesty is the best policy' are ingrained in our society as cultural values. Through confirmation bias, the truth often carries more weight than someone's crass behavior because it aligns with their preexisting beliefs. Fortunately, not everyone thinks in these terms. I'm not sure who said this, but I really like the saying, 'Truth without compassion is just cruelty.'
Elon is not a genius, he doesn`t even have an engineering degree. He is the heir of a gemstone fortune and invested in cutting edge technology that fails a lot. He takes unreasonable risks and gets funds form the government to do that. The only genius he has is putting out the image of being a genius and somehow making people believe that. At least until now, I think the picture is starting to crumble.
Uhmm, going to Mars because the sun will expand and swallow the Earth? How much will that extend the existence of the species? Will the sun not also swallow Mars? Seems to me you'd have to go to a different solar system to avoid that one.

I've only listened to half of one episode but so far you seem rather negative Obviously this is very difficult but the very act of trying will bring results Results that hopefully will develope over the thousands of years until we are multiplanetery So we start now and musk can do this. The secret is starlink and other ways to fund this AI and robotics springs to mind
