Hi there! It could be that they're using these shapes but using their first finger to 'mute' the other strings so they don't make a noise. It could also be that they're in drop D tuning (low E tuned down to D)...then these chords are playeed with a barre like you describe. That's probably the answer, hope it helps! Aha that makes sense. Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Lamb of God are known for weird power chord combos like this with triple 7s and nines all over the place with muted strings and weird Drop tunings like Drop B and Drop C. Makes it SUPER HARD to learn!

I see TONS of rock metal guys using bar power chords with first finger as bar across the fretboard. What bar power chords are those?

Are you lightly palm muting or hitting the strings clean?
Hi Jon. Often I'll lightly palm mut them to control the sound, unless I want them to ring out for longer. Hope this helps, good luck! James
