From Arizona- I'm (68) years old & my "Retirement Journey" starts today August (1st)...Yay! I like idea of finding of finding "growth friends " too..Thank you❤The scriptures say somewhere, " Without a vision the people perish"... which is extremely important for me too!..Thank you for EVERYTHING you do❤
Congratulations on starting your retirement journey! 🎉 Finding "growth friends" sounds like a wonderful idea. And you’re absolutely right-having a vision is crucial for a fulfilling retirement. Wishing you all the best as you embark on this exciting new chapter. Thank you for your kind words! ❤️😊
I haven't been able to really put my finger on why I'm so ambivalent about retiring until you pointed out the "loss of community" around 1:30! Thank you so much.... I love my husband and we get along great, but I think I've really been starting to feel some grief about losing contact with all of my clients. I work as a therapist and have enjoyed my work more in the past few years than ever before... I'm honestly not ready for all of it to end, but I am definitely going to be retiring with my husband, who is not conflicted at ALL! I listened to some of your retirement prep videos also and am now thinking about how I can continue my work part-time somehow, but on my own terms. You've helped me give myself permission to grieve what I'm losing and also to do what I can in retirement to make sure that I still have a fulfilling life. Thank you so much!
I’m so happy this video was helpful. Yes try and find a way to maintain enough work so that it provides the fulfillment and community that you need, yet balances out a healthy and fun retirement with your husband. That’s exactly what we are doing and it can work. What is your biggest fear about retirement?
@@RetirementTransformed I think it's the need to promote myself and the lack of structure. Now clients come to me every day because I work for a busy agency. I've always struggled with promoting myself, so I'm worried that I'll end up with few if any clients. I've already decided to start life coaching in retirement, but I want to do some group work as well.
My husband will be retiring in a couple of months. We know there will be a lot of adjustments to be made. My husband has worked for the same company for over 34 years so that is a big part of his identity. But, we are part of a great church and are heavily involved in a Christian motorcycle ministry. These two areas have become more of our identity than his work. We are looking forward to having more time for volunteer work. There is joy and fulfillment in serving the Lord where He wants you to serve. I’m excited to see what doors He opens up for us in this next stage of our lives.
I guess things were different for me. I retired in 2016 at age 62. Walking away from work was the easiest thing I have ever done. My whole life I only worked because I needed to, never because I wanted to. To that end we planned for a very long time for that day when we could just stay home. I have always loved my home life and getting to have that 24/7 was and is a pure joy. I like to say I now have 6 Saturday's and 1 Sunday to my week. The biggest problem I have is trying to remember what Saturday it is. For anyone who has lived in a northern climate (I'm in Michigan) the know the joy of a "snow day" as a kid. Well being retired is like every day being a snow day. By the way, from what you have on your video, I hate the break the news to you, but you are not retired. You can't work and be retired at the same time. The definition of "retired" is literally "no longer working". I hope when you do decide to retire it's everything you always want it to be.
You are so fortunate to have this wonderful perspective on your "non retirement". Yes, we did not retire and one of our goals is is create a movement about this third phase of life and all that it offers. Even if it's a week filled with six Saturdays or multiple snow days. Thank you for your continued comments. Mark and Jody
Agreed, if you have to work, you are not retired....stop using that word. If your hobby is to try some jobs you always wanted to do, For a short period of time, then that is fine....for example, I have always wanted to work the projector at a theater, I will do that some day.....but not because I have to.
You are describing how my husband feels LOL I want to continue some kind of work when I retire from full-time work and have the luxury of deciding what I will and won't do with my time. This will still be a big difference from what I'm doing now.
Hi Darlin'. Yes, I would say as we continue to grow as a couple and dig deeper into our five pillars of retirement, we learn more and become more successful and grateful for our life together. It takes intention and some work, but it is so worth it
We both set aside alone time and time away from each other doing our hobbies or sports. We have couple friends and also individual friends to mix up our day. So talk about it and see what works

Love your thoughtful approach to retirement. Everyone 50+ needs to think through all the issues you addressed here. Keep up the great work.
I really appreciate your honesty and sharing your vulnerabilities and growth areas! Thank you! A year later, I imagine you’re more settled in things.

What are your thoughts on being together 24/7. Should we schedule alone time?
We both set aside alone time and time away from each other doing our hobbies or sports. We have couple friends and also individual friends to mix up our day. So talk about it and see what works

She definitely wears the pants in that marriage. I do love listening to them though.
Lol!😂
Is the cussing really necessary
No it's not necessary at all. I remember making this video and it slipped out, so I apologize.
