I have a friend who was in medical school. And now he’s working in residency in podiatry. He told me about the challenges behind the medical school tests. It’s not about how smart you are, it’s about how much effort your putting into your material. Work hard and I know you will do great!!
ABSOLUTELY! My mother isn’t a smart person, (she said this herself to me) she gains her success by persevering and STUDYING hard. She is a VERY successful pathologist working in private with a good life style. I am not smart yet I get all A’s cause I study a lersevere a lot. I wanna become a doctor really bad even tho I am only in hs lol
As I was watching this, I felt like a mother hen watching her kid go to first day of school. I have a daughter who’s now a second year med student. Congrats, Shaun, this is a great accomplishment!
Damn your university is next level , so considerate of their students and welcoming , its the small things that matter . Im a second year medical student in Jordan university of science and technology
That is like the main thing so far- they have been so inviting and welcoming. They treat us extremely well! I can already tell I will have a good experience here! Congrats on being in your second year! Maybe you can give me some first year tips :D
Shaun Andersen, MS1 goodluck💪🏻 the only advice is make smart friends from the year above you , they know the system of your university and they can be extremely helpful and guide you
I can tell how excited you are and I genuinely wish you the best of luck during these 4 years!! I graduated from nursing school in May, start my ER nursing job in a few weeks, and I'm nervous/excited, but looking back at how hard school was I can definitely now say that it was ALL worth it, and it will be for you too. Stay strong and keep your eye on the prize.
Hey there!! :) Congrats on finishing nursing school! That is such a huge accomplishment! The ER is a crazy but fun place haha I worked there for a while! You are going to do amazing as a nurse :) congrats again and thank you for the kind words!
Awesome! I’m a high school senior who just finished a week long medical program where I got exposed to so many health careers and professionals. Now RUclips is recommending stuff like this me so I’m hoping it’s a sign medicine is for me 🤞
Yoooo that is awesome! It is awesome to be starting to think about these things and make connections/resources as you start to move into college! Make sure to get some clinical experience once you start college! :) That will really help you determine if medicine is right for you!
In my med school you can start either in August or January and I did in January back in the day. I’m about to finish med school in December and let me tell you, your vlogs are making me quite nostalgic. These are very fond memories that I wish I had on film, only a couple of photos remain of those days. I’m sure they’ve all told you a thousand times over about all the stress, the never ending sleepless nights, the fact than you’ll have time for almost nothing (outside med school related activities) and everything that comes when you choose this path, and they are right. It’s been incredibly demanding and exhausting, both physically and mentally, and it’s been incredibly awesome as well, specially when you actually start working with patients (I could tell 100 stories). But let me tell ya, and every other student starting med school that might read this, it’s been so worth it, all of it and I wouldn’t change a single thing (well, maybe one or two). I hope you learn to enjoy it, even in the middle of it all when you feel overwhelmed, that you enjoy it even then. Best of luck to you all.
This comment. Seriously. I hope EVERYONE in the comments section who is starting Medical School or planning to apply reads this. Thank you so much. This was extremely inspirational. I have heard from so many how hard it will be. I know it will be. That is one reason I chose to document my experiences. Because if I can make anyone else feel more prepared, then I have done my job. You should be extremely proud of the fact that you are almost done. Congratulations on pushing through all of this. I will definitely be needing advice from you throughout the next few years. Thank you so much for sharing!

Congrats on beginning medical school! The next four years of your life will be super challenging but also full of unforgettable memories. Enjoy the process, it will be over before you know it! Trust me, I’m an intern this year and med school flew by! Best of luck in your career future doctor!
Yooo thank you so much for those encouraging words! Congrats on being done with medical school and starting your intern year! Your hard work has payed off! Thank you again! :)
You're going to LOVE having these videos to look back upon! I wish I had filmed my medical school career and progression... good luck, have fun, enjoy the ride, and remember - NO ONE knows EVERYTHING. You got this!
Thank you so much for the kind words! :) I really appreciate it! I will definitely look forward to looking back on this videos and hopefully I will have grown and succeeded! 😁
I recently graduated from med school, love watching your experiences some things are so same and some are really different. Good luck it’s gona be the best time of your life!!
I’m an IMG, haven’t started my residency yet, I’ll be applying for this year’s internal medicine match in the US. What residency would you like to pursue?
Look up Boards & Beyond, Pathoma and USMLE Step 1 First Aid. Everyone learns differently (personally I don’t like Anki, but some swear by it), but those three were my best friends during the first two years and a lifesaver when it comes to preparing for the step 1. I highly recommend them!! Also, take care of your mental health! It’s normal to feel burned out (especially towards the end of your 2nd year) and have the imposter syndrome, I’m a 6th semester Med student here in Vegas as well and I still feel it at times. But you just have to shake it off and keep pushing forward! Eventually those feelings will subside with time.
Congrats on your first day! It looks like a lot of fun! Just finished applying for medical school 2021 so hopefully I’ll be in your position next year! Can’t wait to see your journey through medical school!
Use One Note on that iPad. It'll be your best friend, believe me. Additionally, prep yourself. They warn you that either in first semester or second semester you'll be hit with a 'shock' on how hard it is. So if you breeze through first sem like some do, be wary, because second sem is a whole other beast. Then again, Aus med school might be different- here, at my med school, we do a thesis or coursework set of topics. Basically, we do research, or we do coursework and do half a post graduate cert while in med school, so. Take my word lightly cause there's probably big differences between our med courses.
I have definitely been considering trying One Note too! And it is similar here. We are about to hit the ground running on Monday and they have advised us to just spend this time relaxing for now!
Just found your channel and this video has already helped ease my nerves about my first day. I start vet school in about a month and I’m super anxious about it, but I’m hoping my school will be as welcoming and helpful as yours!
@@ShaunAndersen I'm applying to pediatrics, I'm thinking PICU or NICU right now but just trying to stay open minded! You'll be surprised what you like...I started med school thinking I wanted to be a surgeon and was ready to get my pediatrics rotation in third year "over with". LOL

Shaun Andersen, MS1 no just enjoy the journey, we all just wanted to graduate but I’ve enjoyed my time in med school because once you’re a graduate there’s a lot of responsibility so this is the time to actually learn. Good luck!
Good luck! I'm currently in PA school and it's tough, alot of material. As you may know PA's are able to work in all specialties and we are taught under the same model as medical schools. It's stressful but it's amazing how much I have learned.
I had a huge respect for PAs and I have worked with many of them! They can be very autonomous depending on the setting and can often times be just as good as seeing a physician! Good luck in the rest of your PA education! :D
Thanks, be prepared to sacrifice some of your social life. I have no social life, all I do is study. 🙃 I rarely even talk to my mom but I know at the end my sacrifice will be worth it. When you feel stressed or hopless just remember what brought you there and how many people you will be able to help when you are done 🙌
Between you and Doctor Mike, I am definitely going to be occupied for hours watching all of these medical videos. Even though I am in pharmacy school, I love these videos :)
Yooo Dr. Mike's video are great! He has done such a great job of really bringing medicine to the social media world! I appreciate it! :) Good luck with Pharmacy school!
Congrats glad the first day went well for you man! I’m planning to apply 2021. So it’s cool to watch your path from the beginning, and to see modern day medical school firsthand.
Thanks man :D I appreciate you joining me on my journey! Good luck on your application cycle next year! Make sure to have fun every step of the way and enjoy it while it lasts!
Hey Shaun! Congrats on starting your first day of med school! You have an exciting and fulfilling journey ahead of you. Love to hear that you and your colleagues are already building comradery by wearing the same shirts! You all will do amazing things And we can't wait
Hey man thanks so much! :) It was a ton of fun and everyone is so nice and just want to work together which is awesome. It is going to be a fun time!! :)
I'm taking 2 gap years after college and will be applying next cycle. Hopefully I can get there as well! Thank you for the video! Hopefully we can see more of these vlogs?
I took a gap year and honestly it is a great idea. It really gives you some time to focus on yourself and your happiness! You will definitely see more vlogs!
I am in 4th year right now, it's one heck a journey .. my advice to you will be that study but don't give up on stuff that you love the most in the way because then everything goes down way... task management is really important and take a really good take care of your mental health.. take a break when you need to!👍
Welcome to Med!! Glas you're enjoying it so far!! I am 4th year medical student in Glasgow, Scotland. But I do enjoy watching your videos and how different yet similar our study is ahahha. All the best bro! Stay perseverance and motivated!! Goodluckkk
YES! I've been thinking about it for the longest time. And seeing videos like yours really, really inspire me. It's telling me that I have a lot of potential. Even though I'm really young.
Right? It is so awesome to finally be getting started!! :) being surrounded by all the other students is a great feeling! Thanks so much for your continued support 🙏🏻
I'm so happy for you! First days always get me nervous and just watching this made me a little anxious haha. I'm completing secondaries currently, hoping to start medical school in 2021. Looking forward to your journey as a first year!
Aye congrats on getting to your secondaries!! :) Once they are submitted, you finally get a chance to BREATH and relax a little bit! Then, the fun starts and you get to go on interviews! :) I am sure you are going to do great! I am looking forward to seeing you start Medical School next year!!
Bro I love watching these because it's been my dream to go to med school, and I get to live through you guys while getting my undergrad degree in neuroscience (2nd year)! Congrats on getting in, and good luck!!!
Congratulations on the first day I’m actually planning on Applying to your school in the coming cycle if been binge watching all your videos the last two days getting prepared for the application process I’m so excited!
Thanks for watching the videos and supporting my channel!! I appreciate it so much! Good luck on your application cycle! :) I know you will have tons of success! 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Appreciate it man! :) Thanks for supporting the channel. Good luck with starting college! :) It is definitely tough but it is a fun time. Make sure to work hard but also to keep having fun!
I’m so happy for you! I’m only in high school but I really hope to one day be in your shoes. I’ve been interested in medicine since the seventh grade and it would be pretty cool to actually end up having a job in the profession I’ve loved since I was 12
You will absolutely be in my shoes one day! It is awesome that you are so young and already thinking about it! But please make sure you also focus on having fun right now since you are so young!
Shaun Andersen, MS1 thank you! I just hope that things will work out in the end. It just kind of excites me that in a few years I’ll be able to hopefully decide on my own future and later on, study something I’m actually passionate about
Thanks for being such a down to earth dude. I’m so close to applying to nursing but I feel strongly I should pursue medicine. Looking forward to seeing more of your content.
Hey there Britton! :) Thanks so much for the kind words! Nursing and med school are both great paths and you will impact many lives down both career paths! It comes down to what your life goals are and how you see yourself in a few years!
Aw I wish you the best in your journey! 💙💙 I'm a freshman in college and I plan on going to medical school in the future 😊 Anyways, there will be plenty of blessings and positivity coming your way 🙏🏾💙
Ahhhh good luck with your pre-med journey!! :) You are going to do great! Keep your head up, work hard, and play harder! :D Thank you for joining me on my journey!
Shaun Andersen, MS1 Well, I actually can’t study medicine in school, I live in Egypt and here you have to decide what you want to study in college two years prior, so you can choose to study biology along with other 6 subjects and then you will be able to study medicine in school or you can choose to study mathematics and the same 6 subjects and then you will be able to go into engineering or computer science, so the only difference between the two is whether you want to study biology or mathematics, so I chose to specialize in mathematics because I am really not that good at biology 😂, so I am probably going to study CS in school, such a long boring story, I know 😂. I just love knowing how the education system in other countries work so I thought you would be interested to know as well 😅
I am in my 3rd yr of med school in India (the course structure is a bit different and its called MBBS here instead of MD) and let me tell you , its going to be one heck of a journey filled with both positive and negative, both mentally and physically But its still worth it . So congratulations on your journey so far and aslo for the roller coaster ride that waits you...👏👏🤩😍
Congrats on making it all the way to your 3rd year!! :) and thank you so much for the words of encouragement! I am looking forward to this journey! :) Thank you so much!

Ayeee thanks so much for Subbing!! :) I really appreciate it! Congrats on applying and good luck on your MCAT! :) You are going to do great and I look forward to seeing you get accepted to medical school!
@@ShaunAndersen I'm also in the honors college so I need to take 3 more classes, statistics, Span 227, and evolution to graduate. Which I could have done in the Fall and be done but I also got accepted into the RAMP program for the year so I can't graduate in Fall. Lol. Yikes. I'm still taking bio classes I find interesting. This upcoming fall, I am taking evolution/Biol 415 with Stacy , 2 honors class, span 226, Biol 475-neurobiology. In the Spring, I want to take Human physiology with Utz and histology. I talked to Ashley Sylvester about what I should do and she defs told me to focus more on like shadowing and stuff because I have enough extracurriculars which relieved me on one side and then freaked me out. Hahahahha. I am not applying this cycle. I wish. Lol. I know I don't have enough clinical experience to apply and get in so I'm focusing on that this year (: I don't know what I'm supposed to do my in gap year but... There it is. Lol. Any advice?
Here in India we medical aspirants are egarily waiting for the medical entrance exam.NEET It was scheduled on May but due tocovid19 it conducted on September. #Happy to see u on college for which we are struggling.
Omg I was so scared to watch your unboxing video earlier cause I was waiting on my results so my offer becomes unconditional and it’s official I am going to med school too, so excited to watch this journey and see how you experience it.
@@ShaunAndersen I'm still in undergrad! Rising Junior this Fall :)) I start late August, like everyone else haha. I'll catch up to you in 2 years though!!
I've just come across this video whils watching Dr. Mike. Am glad for you bro. Continue in success...... I'll be viewing all the videos too the old and new ones to come.
Thank you so much for this I’ve been looking into going to UNLV med since I was born and raised in Vegas this video made it seem like I am able to get it
Hi I know this is kinda personal but it’s a genuine question how do you Anderson and other med students have apartments and places like this when you can’t work during med school? Can someone explain this to me?
Hey there of course! So there are many methods. Most students in medical school take out loans which covers the cost of housing. Some (like me) also get family support. Others have money saved from previous jobs/careers!
For me, my father gives me about $500 a month and the rest I pay entirely with loan, that includes everything from rent to food to tuition. Currently started third year $130,000 in D:
I wondered the same thing. My family could have physically paid for me to go to medical school if I chose the route. But the insane rising cost of education turned me off to it. My aunt and uncle who went to med school in the 70’s paid the equivalent of something like 2,000 in today’s dollars for the same thing now costing close to 65k a year.
UNLV is actually on my list of school I’m considering applying to! I had like 75 starting out on my list and I’ve narrowed it down to 41. Trying to get that lower but it’s hard😅 there are so many great schools out there it’s hard to choose!
I highly recommend it! But I would definitely reconsider applying if you do not have any ties to Nevada since they are very instate driven :o do you have any Nevada ties?
Katie Schmidt definitely check the MSAR on the AAMC website to see the % of out of state resident students who matriculates to each school! It gives you a good idea how much the schools prioritize state residencies!
Who in the world would dislike this video?! Thank you Shaun for uploading!! I CAN'T wait to see what happens next week when the actual science curriculum starts! Please share amount of info (# of slides they want to you study per day, etc). And bro, I told you. Few months back it was 300 subscribers, now you almost have 4,000!! You channel is gonna grow as fast if not faster than Rachels! P.S Abby, just for the record, I always knew you were his gf LOL! You two are the cutest couple!
Maybe they just don't let medical students :( But thank you so much for your continued support! The fact that you have been here since 300 subs means so much to me! I appreciate the support so much. It has been a lot of fun to watch this channel grow and to have so many people join me on my journey. I will do my best to make everyone proud!! :)
Congratulations! I'm a year 1 neurology resident that just happened to stumble upon this video and couldn't help but smile thinking back to my first day (which was kinda disappointing tbh). How are you liking it so far?
Hey there! Congrats on starting residency!! That is awesome! Your hard work is paying off!! :) I am liking it! Today is only day 2 of lectures so it isn't too bad and I can already see how it's going to get harder but I am going to keep pushing the best that I can! :)
I love to watch this stuff as I also try to get in. Currently increasing my GPA since I didn’t know I wanted to go into Med until after my undergrad and I’m sitting the Australian grad med test in 10 weeks :D wish me luck! I would love to see your study strategies and resources - like Anki, sketchy med, etc. Good luck for your second week (since I’ve only seen this now) and hope you find a way to study that fits your learning type.
I will definitely be working on my study strategies over the next couple of weeks as I settle in! :) Thank you so much!! Good luck with your test! You are going to do amazing! :D

Congrats on being a nursing student!! :) Nurses truly make up the foundation of healthcare!
I'm about to start my fourth year of med school in Texas. You'll do great, enjoy it because I felt like I was in your shoes weeks ago. You got this!
CONGRATS on starting your 4th year!! You should be so proud! That is awesome! Any specialties in mind?! :) Thanks for the kind words and support!
LOL

Just think- this will go by so fast, and you’ll be a resident soon enough. All the stressing will make it go by 😂😂😂 (u got this)
I absolutely cannot wait for that day to come :p but I will enjoy the journey until then!
Shaun Andersen, MS1 Can’t wait time c the journey with u :)
I got my orientation in two weeks! I’m super excited! And thanks for the quality videos man. Keep on the grind 💪🏻
Ayeeee you are so close!! :) Congrats on starting school! Looking forward to hearing how your orientation goes!
I just graduated from CSN as a medical lab scientist. Its a journey but worth it! Hope you have a wonderful journey. God bless!
Hey that is awesome! congrats!! :) Good luck, the lab is a ton of fun so I am sure it will be an awesome career! Best of luck to you!
This is literally my dream once I’m able to get in I’ll be so happy, I really don’t think I can but hopefully by Gods grace 😣. Well done !!
You can do this!! I know it is tough, but if you keep working hard then I know you an accomplish anything you want!

Goodluckkk
Thanks for the words of wisdom man! :D I appreciate it! Congrats on making it all the way to your 4th year! You're almost there!!
me being a high school sophomore gaining inspiration just by watching this: 👁👄👁
YOOOO that is awesome!! Are you going to do pre-med in college? :)
YES! I've been thinking about it for the longest time. And seeing videos like yours really, really inspire me. It's telling me that I have a lot of potential. Even though I'm really young.
Just found your YT channel and I'm hooked! Keep up the great work!

you should do a side by side get ready with me video at the end of your year 1 to see how drastically it changed or if it changed at all.
Haha will definitely do! It will probably be me just rolling out of bed in sweat pants ;P
Bro I love watching these because it's been my dream to go to med school, and I get to live through you guys while getting my undergrad degree in neuroscience (2nd year)! Congrats on getting in, and good luck!!!

Congrats on your first week of med school!! I used to go to UNLV. I'm a nursing student!
Oh that is awesome!! :D Are you doing nursing at UNLV? Or at least in Vegas? :o
Shaun Andersen, MS1 unfortunately no! I’m back in IL finishing school!
It just kind of excites me that in a few years I’ll be able to hopefully decide on my own future and later on, study something I’m actually passionate about
Just subscribed! Super pumped to follow along! I just graduated undergrad and am taking 2 gap years before going off to medical school!
Aye thank you so much for subscribing!! :) That is awesome, congrats on graduating! Gap years are honestly great and I am so glad I had one!

Thank you so much Willie!! :)
SUUUPER EXCITING!! I'm starting college in a few weeks and I honestly can't wait!
Ayeeee congrats and good luck on starting college!! Are you thinking about doing medical school?
I just love knowing how the education system in other countries work so I thought you would be interested to know as well 😅
God bless you! good luck! I am a current PA. Glad to see happy minded people like you
That is awesome! I have worked with many awesome PAs! What setting are you working in? Also, thank you so much for the kind words! :)

Yes! I have heard tons of other people reference them! I will look them up this weekend! :)
Seeing this makes me excited for my journey. Entering 5th year undergrad at UNLV this Fall but hey, let's gooooooooooooooooooo hhaha
Ayeee UNLV!! :) What classes are you taking? So are you applying this cycle?
Lol. Any advice?
Here in India we medical aspirants are egarily waiting for the medical entrance exam.NEET

Thank you so much for the encouraging words! :)
Thank you so much for this I’ve been looking into going to UNLV med since I was born and raised in Vegas this video made it seem like I am able to get it
You will definitely have a better shot at UNLV since they prioritize those with connections and ties to Las Vegas! :D
Welcome to doctors family, Shaun... All the best with classes and clinicals
Thank you so much Dr. Babu!! 😁
Loving your videos man. It's gonna be fun comparing your journey to my wife's and my journeys. Good luck with medical school bro
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻 good luck to you and your wife! Keep me updated!! :)
For me, it is completely federal loans and savings.
Congrats and good luck! Starting my first day tomorrow and this made me more excited for the day ahead!
YOOOOOO Good luck tomorrow!!! Please keep me updated and let me know how it goes!!
Shaun Andersen, MS1 no, I do not! I’m not familiar with what schools are more in-state driven and what schools are more open to out-of-state students.
Katie Schmidt definitely check the MSAR on the AAMC website to see the % of out of state resident students who matriculates to each school! It gives you a good idea how much the schools prioritize state residencies!
Shaun Andersen, MS1 thank you! I’ll check it out.
