    Errol Flynn did more than most for others. Children the world over have been and still are thrilled and brought joy by the kind of films he made, and that is more than most of us can say we have done. Not only children, but also brought joy to adults in this often sad, and sometimes futile condition of men and women's lives. He himself said, towards the end of his life," One night I was stopped by a woman in a wheelchair. She said, ' Thank-you for all the wonderful hours. If you knew what my life has been, you would know what I am saying." I walked off thinking 'Maybe my life hasn't been a waste. If you can help another human being on this planet, you can't be wasting your time. " Flynn was a deep man, not the fluff and bubble, the hijinks that he indulged in, although that was a side of him. The real Flynn was the one first mentioned, who had a conscience, who had a sense of calling. " I allow myself to be known as a colourful fragment in a drab world, " he said. I knew a couple of people who knew him. The first thing they said when I mentioned him was, " He was intelligent. "

    In 1933 the movie, "In The Wake of The Bounty " was released starring Errol Flynn as Fletcher Christian. It was filmed in Australia and directed by Charles Chauvel. Therefore, his acting debut was not in England, but in Australia.

    I just watched “In Like Flynn” about his life before pictures. A must video to watch! I just fell in love with him all over again. I loved watching his movies as a kid at my grandparents house. I always loved the classics and Errol playing a pirate or Robin Hood made any little girl swoon. 💋

      I agree, although in my opinion, and I admit it is a minority one across the board, to be a great hero you have to have a great opponent/adversary/enemy-- when you "overamp" the hero you get a comic book-a bad comic book like DC and Marvel have been for about 15 years. I am not suggesting Flynn's movies were this extreme but sometimes they came to the edge.
      I always wondered what the screen chemistry would have been if instead of Ronald Reagan, the actor who was supposed to play the role of George Custer in "Santa Fe Trail" namely JOHN WAYNE, got the role. They never played in any film together.

    It’s amazing how people, especially the men, can criticize, demean & judge another person without knowing the true facts about the person & their life. These people read or hear one negative statement about Errol & think they can condemn him to death. How pathetic! Saying you’ll never see him in heaven! Remember, judge severely not or you will be severely judged yourself!

    I've always liked Errol Flynn, he's always been my hero. My favourite films are 'they died with their boots on' and 'The sea hawk', this to me is Flynn at his best. watch the banter between Errol and Flora Robson, great stuff. Died with there boots on, Flynn let his hair down, his most polished. Sea Hawks good too. I like Captain Blood alot, his westerns had great chemistry with Hale Sr and Bigboy Williams, hilarious!. Oliva and Erroll up there with ANY screen team. Ending scene with Olivia and Errol Died with their Boots on one if the most touching moments ever. AND it was true/,unfulfilled love , fading, knowing this could be the end. That scene took Olivia a couple days to recover; HOW SPECIAL THEY WERE TOGETHER ! I've watched Errol since the early to mid 60's; my opinion never changed all my life, I knew he was the greatest !

    I agree with you totally, I think the sea hawk is a wonderful film. It shows what a good actor he was especially in Elizabeth and Essex. Bette Davies dislike him very much but later on admitted to Olivia, when they were watching Robin Hood together that he was...after all, a very good actor. Another of my fave films of Errol's is too Much Too Soon and That Forsyte Woman. They were all so wondferful weren't they... they outshone any of our stars today.

    He had quite a life considering that he got away with at least two cases of rape, statutory and/or otherwise. He didn't have so much "genius for living", as much as he just enjoyed excesses of all kinds, had very little moral compass, and expected to pay no price for it. There was a similar man at our college, who picked his victims from among the coeds. I was one of them. It isn't only about the rapes, the college man was a stalker too. Read David Niven's autobiography. He says quite a bit about Mr Flynn, from firsthand knowledge.

      Bev Aadland, Errol's 'girlfriend' is my hanai mother. The fact is my grandmother, Flo Aadland, author of Big Love and basis for the movie about Errol's and my mother's last days with him, The Last of Robin Hood, pushed hard for Bev to be in show business. My mom lied about her age to get into the studios as a dancer. She acted far more mature than her age and was successful getting a job. Errol happened to walk through the dance studio one day and saw my mom and because to be hired you had to be 18, assumed she was 18. So, it's not as if he was searching out underage girls at the time, at least, not with my mom. And when he did meet her, he wasn't 50, he was 47, I believe. And, yes, after awhile he did find out about her true age, but by that time they were very intimately involved and were actually in love with each other. My grandmother was well aware of the situation and later served time for 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor', I think it was 60 days. So, all judgments aside, my mom was treated very well and very respectfully by Errol and she told me so on many occasions. In the movie, The Last of Robin Hood, Dakota Fanning played my mom (UNCANNY resemblance, I might add), Kevin Kline played Errol Flynn, and Susan Sarandon played my grandmother, Florence Aadland. When I met them to talk about the film, all of them were extremely gracious! Aloha

A limited actor, but deserved an Oscar shot for s. actor for Hemingway's 1957 "Sun Also Rises" He chose to be laid to rest very top (317 acres) in GLENDALE's massive "Forest Lawn" Only about 35ft from The Great: Spencer Tracy!

      jeff shannon I don't agree with you. In Too Much Too Soon he showed his acting ability, and particularly in a brilliant picture he produced - Uncertain Glory. He himself said he was miscast in Westerns and if you see him do Shakespeare in Too Much Too Soon he can act, no doubt about it. He was typecast as he said, for box office - money as he said. He also said acting is ridiculous. pretending.

    As an Anglo /Irish grandma , I have seen the Irish self destruct buttons on many , many occasions and still can't quite understand why we seem to be this way . The reason I say we ...is simply because it applies to myself and too many friends and family , if any anthropologist wanted to work on this weird mind set they may be able to help future generations of Irish men and women. It seems that the more intelligent or successful one is the more one self destructs , from famous poets , authors , sport personalities , geniuses of literature , statesmen etc , too many for just coincidence and such a terrible waste of life . Maybe because of the fact that Ireland was , for so many centuries , an Occupied Country has given us a feeling of inferiority, yet their are benefits because we can be vociferous about the apartheid and illegal occupation of PALESTINE and detest and despise the blatant genocide which is obvious to people who recognize the evil of illegal occupation of PALESTINIAN LAND and the HYPOCRISY OF THE NAZI ZIONIST JEWS .

    • @MikeGreenwood51
      @MikeGreenwood51 5 лет назад

      My thoughts about your comment was that you had written a tangled ball there. Then I saw your name. So no way am I interested in opening your box. But suffice to say the tangled ball of ideologies you put together is seemlingly insane as far as I see. Sorry. I did not know the Zionists were or are NAZIs. Are you picking out the Jews from amongst the Zionists? Why are you picking on Jews? Some Irish Republicans supported Hitler during the second WW2. He also picked on Jews ordering death. You wrote of illegal occupation. But is it? Representatives of the Arab League supported the formation of the PLO who were an International terrorist organisation. They chose to murder civilians. The PLO were kicked out of Jordan after war or trobles started when they were allowed refuge there. Kicked out of the Lebanon after war (100,000 murdered (10,000 Christians)). They went to Libya and there was war. Then after 2011 they went to Syria. There is war there and over 600,000 are dead and over 8 million fled. Both Gadaffi and Assad are or were Socialist. So who are the NAZIs. BAATH Party is an Arabic acronym. It is Arabic for 'Arab NAZI Party'. I think that if you want real help finding an answer you need to keep the situations in the Middle-east separate and not mingle them. The answer is partly natural order. You were born of two parants who likly were on sides not always as loving as your parants. So you are a fusion of two (Anglo Irish. My nephew is as well). I am also a fusion. One part of my mind are flying spitfires and the other flies messersmits. Around and around they fly. It's in my genes. IE conflict. Two parts ready to kill the other. But love conquers. So it's that stronger love that keeps the fusion (The self (my self)) together. But many thousands of films, article and other media have been written and published showing my side knocking the living daylights out of each other. People also pay to watch or view such as entertainment. But they won't think it entertainment when both guns are firing through their walls when they are screaming in agony. It's just the way it seems to be. See not every one are lovers in society. What I mean, is that fighting is in your genes. Your love keeps you together and not every one has that love. There is centuries of conflict in genes and some haven't the love or do not know of the love. So they have a few pints and bang. Their minds are 'out of order', losing control. So some strange weird shit rises inside them from the bubbling torment inside. That something can be anger. Or lost of controlled anger.
