  • This is a comparison between the Stam Audio SA-47F and the Warm Audio WA-47jr.
Clean samples recorded into BAE 1073MPL 500
Compression samples recorded into BAE 1073MPL 500 to a Distressor on NUKE
One thing I want to mention is the SA-47F does not have a pad and I was able to record straight up against the kick without an in line attenuator. The WA-47jr does have a -10db pad and I needed to engage it as it was too hot right up against the kick. I matched the gain for the comparison in Pro Tools after. Please pay attention to the tone, NOT the volume.
For the ROOM examples, the mics are set exactly the same with no pads engaged.

The Wa47 Jr fet condensor is not supposed to be a recreation of the u47 fet, rather, it was just the nicest mic they could make for that price point. This was Warm's biggest mistake in how they named it. Without doing even 30 seconds of reasearch, people just automatically assume it is a copy of the u47 fet (which has a VERY distinct tone and is only great for very specific tasks) where as the wa47 jr is apparently more of just a decent all-rounder, not trying to mimic anything. The stam SA-47F however IS actually meant to be a copy f the actual U47 FET.

      they're biggest mistake was naming it a "47" and then...you know....not actually being a 47 lol

Stam is clearer and more open with better transients. The Warm has a smoother top with more low mids. Stam is more forward, Warm has more depth. I like both. I’d put the Stam on the kick and the Warm on the room.

The warm was much more pleasing to me on the room as well

I was the opposite. I like the warm on the kick better. Sounded tighter but the stam on the room. Like to hear a shoot out on different sources like acoustic or vocals.

I love the Warm for podcast vocals. Not usually what you'd think of for podcasting, but it works really, really well in that scenario. Someday I'm going to use my pair of WA-47jr's for overheads. I've used them as a stereo room set fed straight to video during a live show and they were great in that role, gave me crystal clear audio when I needed to capture audience reactions.

The SA47 has more girth to it, but I somehow prefer the clearer tone of the Warm on these drums. Thanks for doing this!

Nice vid, dog! SA-47f seems much less embellished, def sounds like a classic 47fet to me!

Cool comparison. But the WA-47jr is a transformerless microphone, so not really the same type of mic?

Hey, didn't mean you did something wrong. Just that the marketing is a bit weird. Great video nonetheless!

andYz00m the purpose of the video is solely to show what each mic sounds like for people who are shopping in this price range. Yes, they are pretty far apart in price, but this dirk is intended to be the determining factor for anyone considering these mics.

Hey, nice video. Just curious - I've used many mics with the omni setting but I noticed on the warm audio mic I have to crank the gain a lot more when using the omni polar pattern (opposed to cardiod or bi). Did you find this as well on yours?
