I’ve been watching your amazing videos since Covid made me discover the joys of “digital camping and fishing” 😂… I’ve learned a lot about camping, portaging, and all manner of outdoorsman skills from you so perhaps this is an opportunity to return the favour! I know this is an older video but in case you’re still monitoring comments here’s some gear suggestions for fishing. Looks like your current combo is a fairly heavy rod from Shakespeare (Ugly Stik?) and a large 3000 or 4000 size Pflueger reel. For weight savings, increased sensitivity and reliability I’d suggest you upgrade the rod to something in a medium or medium light from Shimano, Daiwa, Abu Garcia or St Croix. And for reels I’d go straight for a Shimano Vanford or Stradic in a 2500 or 3000 size. Based on what I’ve seen you throw and catch I think this would increase your fun and reduce the chances of failure in the field!
Being vertically graced has its blessings and its not so blessings. In spite of your constant personal suffering you created a good video. A video that focused on the joy of the adventure rather than on the hardship. Well done Jon. Ms Lost Lakes will be proud of you and so are we.

Greatly appreciated!! That's awesome...if the wind and my back had cooperated, I was originally hoping to make this a loop that would cut back through Eris Lake and others over to the dam. Fingers crossed that the ban doesn't get extended again beyond Friday. If it doesn't we will definitely be out this weekend.
@@LostLakes I just watched your vid of Jan 26,2020 you were fighting a laker with your rod tucked under your forearm, ha my bad. LOL not a good look at all. Almost always Islay Mist blended scotch whisky in there. My fav for the money. Thankfully no further back issues since this trip which was in Aug 2018. Thanks John :)
Not too far from home as the crow flies, but it looks like you had to take a fairly round-about drive to get to Kagiano. Fun fact: The Google Street View car apparently visited Manitouwadge in 2012. Did the side streets and everything. Wow!
Thank you for sharing. Your photography is wonderful to watch! Glad you made it back all right! There is nothing like the site and sound of wildlife, especially in times like these.
Great remake ! Always enjoy your videos. You definitely have the knack for making entertaining videos. Amazing how I always feel as if I'm there myself. Thank you again. Hope you and family are staying safe. 👍👍
Wow I can relate to the back pain. I once straight paddled for 32kms in a kayak because the river bank was too steep to allow me to stop and get out for a break. Safe to say my back was protesting at camp that night. Love your content. Watching from Australia.
Great video! I hear you with back pain it sucks!! I have 3 deteriorated discs and psoriatic arthritis and osteoarthritis. So that sucks lol. Hope you can get out on more adventures soon!!

Excellent content as always. Your passion and adventures are second to. none. Take it from me, my body is revolting on all fronts at 35. Enjoy it while you have it. Things could always be worse.
Thanks BadlandSurvival!! Hahah I hear you man, I was 30 for this trip in 2018, and as much as I didn't care about hitting that number, my body seemed to have a lot more problems after that. But overall still lots in the tank...for hopefully another 35-40 years 😁
Very nice edit. Beautiful nature shots - the water droplets on that spider web 🕷 were so pretty. The fish slow-mo was pretty cool, too. Wishing you safe and enjoyable adventures this summer.
Fun trip. Sorry that your back was bad. So many Pike! They are invasive down here in Montana and Wyoming. They never survive the hook. Thanks for taking us along.
Thanks B4X! They're a pretty hearty fish with a big appetite so I can see that being a tough problem to fix. Thankfully they're native here and well-balanced in the food chain so I love 'em :)
Oh man. I could totally feel your pain. I have felt that same thing in my lower back deep within the wilderness. I could tell by the way you were bending over (or not bending over) for your packs at the portage that you were suffering. Sometimes the trips are perfect and most times they are not. But they are all so special right? I'm becoming a big fan. Thank you
Thanks a lot FBK! It sucked, but at least I still got 4 out of a planned 5 days here. If it had been early on a long trip, it would've been a tougher pill to swallow. But there's always next time :)
Amazing footage as always. I totally felt your pain . Most of my discs in my back are herniated from years of abuse on the job. I use to be layed up weeks at a time. I finally changed jobs and still have to watch my bending and lifting but haven’t had major pain since. Still took up kayaking three years ago and I find after a bit of paddling my back just kind of goes numbs so I don’t feel the pain. But must say not a pretty sight trying to get out though. Weird that I even tried kayaking as I’m petrified of water and with my back issues but once I tried it I was hooked and have realized that is my happy spot. I feel very inspired by you and Erin and am so glad for your videos especially during these times. Thank you for all you’s do and the hard work for us to enjoy.😘
Thanks Trisha!! And so sorry to hear that...that really sucks. I find paddling (normally) really loosens me up given my office job. Always curious to try a kayak paddle in the canoe but haven't yet...
Don’t know if someone has already identified the plant you referenced at the 2 1/2 minute mark. I’ve only seen it once in my travels; pretty sure it’s Goldenseal. I really appreciate that you take time to video birds and wildflowers and I hope you will do even more of it.
Goldenseal only grows in the south western part of Ontario. He would be way too far north for that species. This is Sweet Coltsfoot, Petasites frigidus.
Love your videos... Sorry 'bout the back... I mostly paddle on the ocean, Straight of Georgia, but this summer you have inspired a lake trip on the island here... Great Central Lake is 24 miles long and no roads... A 14 mile trail at the bottom end up to Canada's third highest waterfall... Della Falls. As far as paddling with a sore back I once made an 11 foot kayak paddle from a long narrow driftwood pole 1"1/2 diameter with a couple of 4"×14" plywood pieces screwed to the ends... It allows paddling underhand with less twisting of the back... Pulling yourself through the water rather than pushing... Have since carved one from red cedar. Anyhow, happy trails... Keep up the inspiring videos...
Thank you so much Brian!! That's awesome, just looked it up and that sounds like some beautiful paddling. Very interesting design...someone else strongly suggested that I use a shorter paddle, keep the throat vertical for as much of the stroke as possible, and complete the stroke at my hips (i.e. not to reach back to complete the stroke). Either way, thankfully no further back issues since this trip in Aug 2018 :)
I could tell by the way you were bending down that you were in some fairly moderate pain. Been there. Hope it didn't take too long to settle down. I especially like the music at the end of this one. Thanks for sharing.
Whoo hoo! The fire ban was just rescinded for NW Ontario, we will be able to have fires after midnight tonight! Now if they will let us camp social distancing will be very easy 😉
I have 2 slipped discs in my back so I can totally relate to the back pain you were experiencing. It sure can feel debilitating at times eh? I've pretty much made the full-time switch to my hammock as well (even for winter camping) as it is just so much more comfortable on the back. 2 years ago I upgraded from my 9 foot ENO hammock to a 11 foot Dream Hammock and it is a world of difference. The extra length makes for an almost totally flat lay on the diagonal. I can lay in my hammock for hours but like you, laying on the ground is just not doable for longer periods of time.
Oh man that's rough. It was pretty crippling during the spasms, and I had pain for a little while after the trip, but thankfully no further issues since then, over 1.5 years ago. The hammock is key for some of us. We just got the Amok Draumr this season and you can lie on your side or even stomach with its design.
I felt for you on that back injury. Been there, done that. Mine spasmed so bad that I had to have someone help me walk. My med bag always contains potent pain relievers to get me back to safety. BTW - another great video and another reason t cancel my cable tv subscription.
We cut a trail into boomerang years ago when i logged up there. Excellent Lake trout lake. The trail was wide enough to take a terra jet buggy on.We also used the trail for our sleds in the winter.Let me tell you it was work to get in there but well rewarded in the fall for camping and fishing.
I wonder if I took your trails (from Kagiano)? There were also the remnants of an old road running east-west at the top end of Boomerang, but it was very overgrown.
Nice lakes. I was on Temagami at the same tine and developed a hernia. Fortunately I was done portaging and calm weather allowed me to slowly paddle out. Interesting pain - sharp, like a knife stabbing.
Ahhh man that's rough. Ironically rest made my back feel the worst, and portaging seemed to help the most. Must have been stretching the right parts of my back.
@@LostLakes Back in my youth I would always experience spinal dis-comfort, in early Summer, but August would arrive and I would do a few miles with the Grumman, shiny side up, and it would equalize my abdominal and back muscles. I started September feeling great. You're lucky up north where a decent day trip is possible - no two hour drive to public land. Eat my share of the Black Flies please.
Have you watched CBCs documentary about Gearldton composite high schools outers program. Where they maintain old trapping and logging trails and a big guy named moose cuts his big toe off and they backtrack over kakes to fly him out.
As reruns go this was awesome. Starry starry skies and overnight thunderstorms might be two of the things I miss most about tripping right now. Thanks for these and more. ps By my reckoning Boursin, Doritos and that mystery single malt maker owe you a ton. Only fair. lol. I am partial to those too. ATB
Back problems suck anytime, anyplace - but on a wilderness trip all alone - Yikes! I had a serious back issue last summer on a mountain bike trip; but I was with a big group. I can't imagine being alone with back problems. Glad you were able to finish the trip without too much trouble.
Hi John I find that mixing up some Gater Aid powder drink helps me with cramps in the legs and back. It looks like you might have some line in behind your spool causing your reel problems I love my tent especially in real wet windy conditions. Not so much the hammock I’m a side sleeper. Thanks great trip.
Thanks Tom! I opened the spool and couldn't see anything...it was weird. Just went away eventually. Maybe a grain of sand lodged in there or something. The beauty of the hammock is you get to watch the storm from under the tarp, but I know it's not for everyone. With our new Amok Draumr hammocks, you can even sleep on your side of stomach.
Oh Camping Gods I demand it! That was sweetly timed! Sucked that your back starting acting up, but yeah, fighting that headwind & going through mud didn't help. Cool Eagle sighting there!
That plant I believe is a Mayapple. I had my reel seize up like that (after I accidentally snagged it when it was resting behind me in the canoe and casted it in the lake), later that day I hooked into a nice Laker, as I’m forcefully turning the reel I snapped it off the rod, still landed the fish at least. Always have a back up rod. That eagle footage was cool, wonder what was going on.
Thanks Rob! Looks like you're right. Hahah oh man...I used to bring three rods for camping, then down to two, now one. But I always worry greatly that it's gonna break at the start of a long fishing trip.
Backcountry Angling Ontario I will never only bring one. Seen too many break on trips. I picked up a telescopic rod for a vacation (cancelled due to Covid 😭) that I’m thinking of keeping for backcountry back up. Eagle Claw brand, seems alright but I don’t really trust it yet.
They told me I needed surgery on my back and I would never walk again. Well thanks to Pilates, no surgery, Walker or cane!! My lazy butt sometimes gives me a flare up when I ignore the machine too long. Thanks for the video, great distraction during these times.
Hey Jon, next time you catch a hellgrammite, you should keep it for bait. Fish go crazy for them. My grandfather used to collect them from fast-moving streams and use them to catch lakers. Good for bass too. Pick them up right behind the head though, because those pincers are sharp and can draw blood!
Hey look up exercises to mobilise the ISG-Joint on RUclips. It wont work the first Time but if you have this Problem more often and try out different exercises you will find a good way to deal with it.
Thanks stuffzugger! I'll check that out. Thankfully I haven't had any further issues since this trip in August 2018, but I'd like to know in case it happens again.
Nice John, it's a good area with many more lakes to explore around there. Yeah we live on the north shore of Superior so this is relatively close to us
We really enjoy fresh fish as a change from dehydrated food on our trips. I was surprised to see you release them all---esp the laker. Nice trip but it looks like the weather was a bit 'challenging'
the Loons are amazing, we have nothing like that here. Another great video, you should have had superwoman Erin with you and you would not have gotten hurt !!! (LOL) really enjoyed experiencing the trip with you, in seriousness, hate to see it that you tweaked your back. Get better !!!!
Hahah thanks Vance!! Loons are iconic here for sure. This trip was back in Aug 2018 so I was still a few months away from meeting Erin...funny to think.
so when can we expect the next video??? We are all stuck at home here ( are yall as well? ) sure would be nice to ride along with you on another adventure !!! P.S. how is the cardiac issue going ??
Hey John (Jon). As always, I enjoyed your wilderness footage and tenacity. I'd love to wonder if you'd consider wearing a PFD, always? It's really a more sensible way to (solo) journey... As an aside, if you tighten-up a PFD around your torso, it will better adjust your back muscles, too!
Hey Moe, I appreciate how tactfully you ask that---thank you! Many come at the issue aggressively. It's not law (not in Ontario anyway), but some people act like it is when really they're the ones making up the rules (however well-intentioned they may be). This is likely to increase people's defiance toward a conflicting opinion. One thing that has struck me as odd is that people go swimming without a PFD, and sometimes they drown. But I don't see people advocating for swimmer PFD use. But if you're "caught" without one in a floating boat, you get reamed online. I see it all the time on social media. I do feel strongly that, in calm and pleasant conditions, it should remain a choice as long as that is permitted by law. HOWEVER, I increasingly wear a life jacket these days. A big part of that was getting a new PFD last year that's meant for paddling, as opposed to my old PFD which was a cheapie that you'd find stuffed into a boat. It was uncomfortable for paddling. I wear it most of the time now. Thanks again for your tact. If more people approached this issue like you, the PFD advocates would change more minds on the matter :)
@@LostLakes Thank YOU for your kind and tactful reply, sir. I did not wear a PFD for 20 years, either. Now I find wearing one is like strapping on a seat belt, as I jump in a vehicle. I really don't even think twice... My Dad convinced me to wear one on my first solo trip to Quetico just ten years ago. True story - His best friend died on Big Saganaga Lake, while on a solo Boundary Waters canoe trip, just before I was born. Local authorities suspected that his death was due in part to not wearing his PFD, when he dumped. Anyway, my dad's trauma became mine to share. Now I do my best to recommend that all canoeists consider this a normal practice upon setting out on any journey, but especially solo trips. I look forward to viewing your next trip Vlog! Peace and continued safe journeys, fine sir!
@@queticomoe4495 Many years ago we went on a 3 week canoe trip in Quetico. We had uncomfortable PFD's which we had handy but did not wear. When I learned to kayak 15 years ago wearing a PFD was mandatory for the course and now it is second nature to wear it and I make no exceptions. In retrospect it was dangerous to make an early spring Quetico trip without decent PFD's on, but we were young, naïve, and I guess the newer comfortable ones had not been invented. One wise thing taught to us is to dress for the water temperature. Very true. I have made many Lake Superior trips where the air was 25C but the water 3C.
Great solo trip. Those lakes look wild. I have switched over to a hammock sleep system. Ditch the tent. Warbonnet Outdoors will set you up. I sleep a lot better in total comfort. A hammock and tarp pack down small. You can use your pad and sleeping bag for warmth. I have the Eldorado hammock. (Built in bug net)Tons of videos on this subject. You couldn’t keep those stinky pike off your lures!
Thanks KG! Couldn't agree more. This trip was in summer 2018 which is when I started hammock camping, but brought the tent for some reason on this one. Have hardly used the tent since. Just got the Amok Draumr XL for this season :)
How heavy is your canoe and all gear? Really enjoy your channel, thinking I'll have to try out some trips like these in the upper lake Superior area for brookies!
Thanks Smy! This canoe is a bit over 50lbs. Between my food bags, gear bag, tackle backpack, rods, I have no idea...but it definitely requires a double carry
Do you have any stories about weird things you've seen or heard while in the Ont. bush? That would be a cool video, if so. This was awesome, hope you're OK.
Thanks Reuben! Thankfully no further back issues since this trip in 2018. I had a decent size animal walking around my tent for at least half an hour once. Never found it what it was. Could've been a beaver for all I know
Glad to see a new post!! However it made it here. I might throw out this idea for a fire....liquid fire...I know, it's not the real deal without a fire but it might be a NEW opportunity to present to us watchers/outdoors people. I wanted to cook in an urban setting but didn't want smoke....so I use sterno with a folding sterno grill...
i see you’re reading don starkel’s “paddle to the Amazon”. a must read for sure. personality wise, the authour must have been at the other end of the spectrum from you. be sure to read his further adventures in the arctic. and “Kabloona in the yellow kayak” by his former paddle mate.
gravity always wins yes, starkel is the type of man who was a focused powerhouse capeable of accomplishing what is unimaginable to the average man. however there is a downside to that type of person. reading “between the lines”, i believe he was driven, uncompromising and even arrogant. i would readily agree to a month long paddle with jon without hesitation whereas i doubt i would last half a day with starkel.
Thank you FC, I take that as a real compliment :) Amazon was so captivating. It seems very likely to me that your assumptions about him are true. I started Paddle to the Arctic but quit because I was sensing a greatly inflated post-Amazon ego in the writing. Amazon I found more raw but Arctic seemed more like he was trying to portray himself a certain way. So that made me interested in hearing his partner's perspective....I've got Kabloona now, just gotta get to it :)
The wife just told me backcountry camping in Ontario will be allowed on crown land starting Monday. I bet this excites you, I may have to make some plans myself 😉
Nice vid as usual. I love the nature and wildlife shots they are so beautiful! Question for you: what is your preferences on gps personal beacons? Which one you use? I’m getting in canoe camping and I want to get one but I really don’t know and they are so expensive... Thanks man and keep up the videos! 👍
Thanks a lot MONONK :) It's a tough choice but we went with the ResQLink. It's only an SOS button, but no subscription fee. Might be worth the money for an InReach Mini though. You can text if it's a non-emergency, get weather info, and it has a topo map on it. If you have 20 mins some time, I recommend watching our video about this topic. I wouldn't be without one again. ruclips.net/video/52g7W81nrR4/видео.html
Backcountry Angling Ontario Yeah the one with the pickup truck I remember. I knew there was a vid on that! I should have search before asking... 🤪 hey thanks for taking time to answer me, really appreciated! 👍👍👍
Great vid man. Sucks about your back. I've been there. Tweak it after a wild hike. Inch your way back home. So happy to finally lay down and take the weight off at home. Also, hellgramites are cool but also disgusting. Ugh.
Thanks Brodie! So many nerves in there. Not pleasant. Hahah they're so nasty. I think you posted the other day about your son being willing to pick that stuff up. He's braver than I.
Camp my butt off! Lol if the crown land ban doesn't get extended past Friday, we will definitely be out this weekend. Hard to plan anything bigger right now since you never know what's going to happen in a week
Allow me to take this opportunity Jon to suggest this regarding your lower back pain. You do a lot of sitting between driving and canoeing and most likely working at a desk too. My guess is that your lower back/hip area needs strengthening, that that part of your body gets no localized exercise and being weak, complains a lot. Check with a doctor but that's a possibility anyway.
I think that's excellent advice. Though thankfully I've had no further issues since this trip in Aug 2018. Desk job still takes a big toll though. Thank you Candy!
When I hear the loons it makes every trip I take worthwhile. I can listen for hours.

Thanks B4X! They're a pretty hearty fish with a big appetite so I can see that being a tough problem to fix. Thankfully they're native here and well-balanced in the food chain so I love 'em :)
Who beautiful footage of the little birds with their reflection in the water. Love you video's
Thank you KC!!
I love the sound of Loons.
We don't have them in Texas usually. They give me a sound reminiscent of my time in the northern states.
Cheers!
Iconic for sure, and never gets old :)
Beautiful place, thanks for the video. There is no pain like back pain that is for sure.
Thanks TO!! For sure. So many nerves there...when it hurts, it can hurt a lot.
Don’t know if someone has already identified the plant you referenced at the 2 1/2 minute mark. I’ve only seen it once in my travels; pretty sure it’s Goldenseal. I really appreciate that you take time to video birds and wildflowers and I hope you will do even more of it.
Much appreciated John!
Goldenseal only grows in the south western part of Ontario. He would be way too far north for that species. This is Sweet Coltsfoot, Petasites frigidus.
Even knowing this is an older video it's still nice just to turn on for a calming background viewing.
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. Thank God you made it back okay with your back! Loved the video!! Nice music at the end!! Mike. 😊😊😊😊
Stunning beauty. No cottages, motorboats or other humans. Got to love Canada.
You gotta :) Thanks Michael!
I could tell by the way you were bending down that you were in some fairly moderate pain. Been there. Hope it didn't take too long to settle down. I especially like the music at the end of this one. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Maggie!! Thankfully it settled down at home with no further issues :)
Camping in a T-Storm is bitter sweet.
“ this is super cool. I might die”
Hahaha it's one of my favourite things in life, especially in the hammock. If that's how I go some day, I can live with that (...well, sort of).
Whoo hoo! The fire ban was just rescinded for NW Ontario, we will be able to have fires after midnight tonight! Now if they will let us camp social distancing will be very easy 😉
Just heard!!! So stoked!!!
YEEEEHAWWWWW!!!!!
Thanks Daniel!! Oh man...when back pain is bad, it's *bad*. Same here...I added some leftover T3s and some Robax to my kit :)
I have read both of Don Starkell's books a few times. Paddle to the Arctic is my favorite.
Interesting! I started Arctic but didn't finish, though I found Amazon enthralling and loved it
I haven't, and can't seem to find it via Google. Sounds crazy!
Its on youtube. Thx for tje reply keep making great content
As reruns go this was awesome. Starry starry skies and overnight thunderstorms might be two of the things I miss most about tripping right now. Thanks for these and more.
ps
By my reckoning Boursin, Doritos and that mystery single malt maker owe you a ton.
Only fair. lol. I am partial to those too. ATB
Starry skies and thunderstorms at night are some of the best sights and sounds.
Hahaha I know eh. How much Boursin have I sold over the years... 😂 Thanks a lot Brad. I'm really missing those too...and loons and spring peepers.
Back problems suck anytime, anyplace - but on a wilderness trip all alone - Yikes! I had a serious back issue last summer on a mountain bike trip; but I was with a big group. I can't imagine being alone with back problems. Glad you were able to finish the trip without too much trouble.
Thanks Bill, it can be pretty crippling. Sure was a long night
Love your videos.
From the north of Sweden
Thanks a lot Patrik!! 👋👋
Tom Beckett as a side/stomach sleeper myself i cannot sleep in a hammock either.
Hahah I inserted that thunder from audio I got during the storm on day 2 😜 Thanks OG!
@@LostLakes Awesome!
6:35 thats seens like a dream spot to build a small logged cabin for me at least
Hellgrammites make great bait, especially if you find them in trout or smallmouth waters.
Hahaha I'm out!
You might want to increase your intake of magnesium to lessen the chance of muscle spasms
Excellent photography as usual.
Much appreciated Marcus!
Back pain sucks for sure, especially at my age(72), but I have found tai chi works miracles! I haven't had to give up the paddling yet!
Right on! Movement is the fountain of youth as they say
Wow, nicely done. Beautiful music as well.
Thanks Mike!
They told me I needed surgery on my back and I would never walk again. Well thanks to Pilates, no surgery, Walker or cane!! My lazy butt sometimes gives me a flare up when I ignore the machine too long. Thanks for the video, great distraction during these times.
Wow, that's incredible! Thanks Hiker CCTer, very glad to hear it :)
Thanks Peter! Hahah I can only imagine trying to wrangle one onto a hook
The sound of the loon is 100% Canadian vibe!
Iconic! Always love it
Great nature photography and filming.
Thanks Richard!!
This is now on my bucket list of trips to take..Do you live close to these areas?
Nice John, it's a good area with many more lakes to explore around there. Yeah we live on the north shore of Superior so this is relatively close to us
Hi there, just cracked onto your videos, great stuff by the way but was just wondering if you eat any of the fish you catch.
Thanks Archie! I typically eat one every 3 days on trips, so this one was an exception due to the circumstances I guess
We really enjoy fresh fish as a change from dehydrated food on our trips. I was surprised to see you release them all---esp the laker. Nice trip but it looks like the weather was a bit 'challenging'
Thanks Harold, I typically eat one every three days on a trip. It is nice to get a bit of fresh food :)
the Loons are amazing, we have nothing like that here.
Enjoyed very much once again. Thanks Jon.
Thanks again Derek :)
Man I felt that fight through the wind! I had my Old Town in some pretty nasty winds last week. Paddling mostly to stay in place and straight 🤣
Hahaha the paddling equivalent of a treadmill
Every camp site we stayed at offered no comforts!!? You experienced comforts. Places to set things….that’s impressive
Another great video Jon.
Quetico Moe Been wondering about that for awhile...especially solo, makes no sense. 😳
Backcountry Angling Ontario That is super cool set up. I watched Shugemery review that hammock system. Enjoy!
Nice video. Hope your back is normal agin.
Thanks Jørgen! Thankfully no issues since this trip in August 2018
I read "paddle to the amazon " as a kid. Remarkable story. I saw the author on Front Page Challenge.
Start tomorrow June 1st in Ontario we’re allowed going camping on crown and provincial land
It was the best news in a long time...can't wait to get out this weekend!
Thanks Gisele!! Thankfully no more back spasms since this trip in August 2018 :)
Nice pair of solitary sandpipers at 15:00
Thanks for the ID Barney! I would've guessed lesser yellowlegs (I'm not a skilled birder obviously), but I see the differences now :)
Could've been a beaver for all I know
BAO Thanks for the all the vids.
Always appreciate your support GAW!
Thanks for the video, you´re a good storyteller. Sorry for you back.
Appreciate it K&T! Thankfully no significant issues since this trip in August 2018 :)
Beautifull re-edit Jon ! ... Damn your getting good !.. 👍
Thanks Pete!!!
Thanks Scott!! Hahah never used it but here's the problem...no crackle! 😜

Watching camping video re-runs is how we have to start the 2020 camping season
It's a bummer 😔
i see you’re reading don starkel’s “paddle to the Amazon”. a must read for sure. personality wise, the authour must have been at the other end of the spectrum from you. be sure to read his further adventures in the arctic. and “Kabloona in the yellow kayak” by his former paddle mate.
flyina circle i read that starkell book a couple decades ago. amazing what a man can do when motivated.
gravity always wins yes, starkel is the type of man who was a focused powerhouse capeable of accomplishing what is unimaginable to the average man. however there is a downside to that type of person. reading “between the lines”, i believe he was driven, uncompromising and even arrogant. i would readily agree to a month long paddle with jon without hesitation whereas i doubt i would last half a day with starkel.
It was the best news in a long time! We can't wait to get out this weekend :D
Telling you as experience when your back hurts and you have plenty of food where you at to settle your mind and stay and enjoy and he'll
Thanks Al, unfortuantely I had to get back to work after this
plant is called Anemone or crowfoot
Does it have any significance? Like edibles or tea etc? Thx
Thanks Wayne. At least one other person suggested crowfoot and several have said mayapple

Backcountry Angling Ontario Yeah the one with the pickup truck I remember. I knew there was a vid on that! I should have search before asking... 🤪 hey thanks for taking time to answer me, really appreciated! 👍👍👍
Pretty cool. Who knew that a re-edit would come out so great. Not adding some Erin was a missed opportunity, though. 😋😁
LOL BLEW IT! 😂
“no its not pot” couldn’t help but snicker at that
Great vid man.
May Apple? The plant?
Yeah, I think that is May Apple.
Hey Jon, whats the first thing you will do when the covid-19 ban is lifted?
Camp my butt off! Lol if the crown land ban doesn't get extended past Friday, we will definitely be out this weekend. Hard to plan anything bigger right now since you never know what's going to happen in a week

As always! Awesome videos!
Thanks as always my friend!
27:00 the super low visibility right here is beautiful, gives an air of mystery.
Agreed! Love fog for filming :)
